Quarrier Girls Win at Parkston Classic

December 29, 2013 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

Quarrier LogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers defeated the Aberdeen Roncalli Cavaliers 49-45 at the Parkston Classic on Saturday, December 28th.  Dell Rapids held a 10-point lead at halftime of 18-8.

The Quarriers shot 16-43 (37%) from the field in the game and shot 13-23 (52%) from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids had 17 total turnovers and out-rebounded the Cavaliers 26-16 in the game.

Mikaela Stofferahn led the team with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Brittany Kludt added nine points and six rebounds.  Sami Reider tossed in 11 points for Dell Rapids.  Arial Hoffman finished the game with four assists.

Head coach Jeff Dvorak said that his team could take away three or four lessons from the game.  “First little mistakes made early in the game come back to haunt you.  We had at least six easy shots that we missed in the first half that if we make them, Roncalli would’ve been done.  But we missed, they hung around and played a strong 2nd half to give themselves a shot to win.  Second we need players to step up and give us a spark.  We really got that from Megan Miles in the 4th tonight.  Third free throws are huge!  Although our overall percentage wasn’t great, we hit eight big ones in the 4th to close the game out. And finally staying poised at the end of tight games is vital.  We scored about a D+ on this one, but we did enough to win which is important for a young team such as ours,” said Dvorak.

Dell Rapids improves to 3-1 on the year.  The Quarriers will travel to Elk Point-Jefferson for a Dakota 12 Conference game on Saturday, January 4th.
