The Vermillion Tanagers held off the Dell Rapids Quarriers in girls basketball action in Vermillion on Thursday, January 30th. The Tanagers won by a score of 54-45. Vermillion had a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter at 13-10. However, the Quarriers put up 18 points in the second quarter, and ended the half on a 15-8 run to take a 28-26 lead at halftime. The Tanagers were able to regain the lead by the end of the third quarter at 37-35. Vermillion then outscored Dell Rapids 17-10 in the final quarter for the nine-point win.
Dell Rapids was led by Mikaela Stofferahn with 14 points in the game. Brittney Siemonsma tossed in 11 points for the Quarriers. Vermillion was led by Josie Huber with 14 points, and Kyleigh Melstad added 12 points.
Dell Rapids has losses their fourth straight game and falls to 4-7 on the year. The Quarriers, though, still hold on to the top seed in Region 3A. Dell Rapids will play Lennox at the Dakota XII Classic in Madison on Saturday, February 1st, at 1:30 p.m.
