Wood Ducks Fall to Mudcats in League Play

The Dell Rapids Mudcats earned a 12-2 win against the Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks on Sunday, May 22nd in Cornbelt League play.

Dell Rapids got three runs in the first inning.  They added another run in the bottom of the second for a 4-0 lead.  The Wood Ducks got a run in the top of the third on an RBI single by JJ Jensen.  Humboldt/Hartford cut the lead in half, 4-2, with a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI triple by Jake Ellens.

Dell Rapids, however, added another run in the bottom of the fifth to extend the Mudcat lead to 5-2.  Dell Rapids then had six hits and scored seven times in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the game 12-2 on the 10-run rule.

Jensen finished with three singles.  Owen Snethen and Nathan Adrian both had two hits each.  Ellens finished with a triple.  Austin King, Ryan Healy, and Derek Eidsness each had one hit.

Mudcats Scorch Wood Ducks in League Play

The Dell Rapids Mudcats earned a 12-2 win against the Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks on Sunday, May 22nd.  Dell Rapids pounded out 14 hits in the seven-inning win.

Dell Rapids got three runs in the first inning.  They added another run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Ty Hoglund for a 4-0 lead.  The Wood Ducks got a run in the top of the third and then another in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2. 

Chad Hunt had an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the Mudcat lead to 5-2.  Dell Rapids then had six hits and scored seven times in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the game 12-2 on the 10-run rule.

Hoglund had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Hunt had three hits, with a double, and an RBI.  Dalton Lehnen had two hits, one double, and two RBIs.  Kris Reges had a double and two RBIs.  Elijah Story and Trevor Freudenthal both had a single and an RBI.  Dalton Allen had two hits, and Grant Olson had one hit.

Lehnen pitched five innings giving up two runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts.  Allen pitched two innings giving up three hits while striking out three batters.

St Mary Golf Season Ends at Region 2B Tournament

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls and boys golf teams played in the Region 2B Tournament held at Rocky Run Golf Course on Tuesday, May 24th.  The girls team finished seventh with a team score of 367.  The boys team placed 12th with a team score of 336.

Rachel Heinemann had the low score for the girls team with a round of 113.  Carley Roiger finished with a 122.  Brianna Weiland had a 132.  Rebecca Heinemann had a round of 141.

Noah Olund missed qualifying for state by three strokes with a round of 95.  Brandon Cook finished with a round of 110.  Aiden Allen had a round of 131, and Levi Gaul finished with a 147.

Mustang Girls Golf at Dak-12 Tournament

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls golf team was at Bakker Crossing in Sioux Falls for the Dak-12 Conference Tournament on Monday, May 23rd.  The Mustangs finished with a team score of 462.

Stephanie Buchmann had a round of 109 on the day.  Ivy Haug finished with a 113.  Hillary Hastings had a round of 115, and Payton Oberg finished with a 125.

Tri-Valley will be in Madison on Thursday, May 26th for the Region 1A Tournament.

West Central Girls Golf Team Places Sixth at Dak-12 Tourney

The West Central Trojan girls golf team placed sixth overall at the Dak-12 Conference Tournament at Bakker Crossing in Sioux Falls on Monday, May 23rd.  The Trojans finished with a team score of 392.

Two golfers finished in the top 15 for West Central.  Lyric Riepma was fifth individually with a round of 87.  Dakotah Larson was 13th with a round of 94.  Kaylee Olson finished with a round of 102.  Morgyn Driscoll had a score of 109.  Blaire Eberhard had a 110, and Lauren Prchal finished with a 123.

West Central will be back at Bakker Crossing for the Region 2A Tournament on Tuesday, May 31st.

Dell Rapids Finishes Ninth at Girls Dak-12 Golf Tournament

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team finished ninth at the Dak-12 Conference Tournament at Bakker Crossing in Sioux Falls on Monday, May 23rd.  Dell Rapids finished with a team score of 426.  Sioux Falls Christian took first place with a score of 338.  Vermillion was second, followed by Canton.

Abby Greenhoff finished 18th individually with a round of 97.  Jayme Schmidt had finished with a round of 99.  Avery Haskell had a 104.  Natalie Berg had a round of 126, and Emma Taubert had a round of 140.

The Quarriers will be in Madison for the Region 1A Tournament on Thursday, May 26th.

Lennox Beats PBR in Extra Innings

Dell Rapids PBR couldn’t hold an early lead and fell to the Lennox Alpacas 10-9 in extra innings on Sunday, May 22nd in Lennox.

Both teams scored right away in the first inning.  Weston Hanson had an RBI sacrifice fly for PBR.  Lennox tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning.  PBR added three more runs in the top of the second.  Riley Calhoon reached on an error scoring Grant Sweeter.  Hanson brought home another run with a single, and Andrew Barr had an RBI double to give PBR a 4-1 lead.

Lennox took the lead for the first time after five unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings.  The Alpacas scored two times in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth for a 6-4 lead.  PBR tied the game after their half of the seventh inning.  Tim Wilhelmsen had an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning, and Tanner Solberg scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh for a 6-6 score.

The Alpacas took the lead again in the bottom of the eighth inning on a double, but PBR put some pressure on Lennox in the ninth inning.  Sweeter scored on a passed ball to tie the game 7-7.  Trey Randel scored on a wild pitch, and Hanson drove home another run with a single to give PBR a 9-7 advantage.  Lennox, however, tied the game with two runs on two outs in the bottom of the ninth.  The Alpacas then won on a two-out bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Hanson had two hits and three RBIs.  Barr had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Calhoon also had two hits, one of them a double.  Wilhelmsen had a single and an RBI.  Sweeter finished with a hit as well.  Randel pitched six innings allowing seven runs, four earned, on eight hits with five walks and five strikeouts.  Solberg took the loss pitching 3 2/3 innings allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

Gamecocks Score Come-from-Behind Walk-off Win over Canova

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks scored five unanswered runs after trailing 5-1 to earn a come-from-behind 6-5 win over the Canova Gang at Humboldt on Sunday, May 22nd.  Seth Cavanaugh completed the comeback with a walk-off RBI single to right field in the bottom of the ninth.

Canova took an early 4-0 lead after scoring a run in the top of the first inning and three more in the top of the third.  Cam Quigley drove home the first run for the Gamecocks with an RBI single in the bottom of the third.  The score remained 4-1 until the sixth inning.  Kendall Gassman hit a home run in the top of the inning to extend Canova’s lead to 5-1.

The Gamecocks then rallied in the bottom of the sixth.  Drew Maras took a lead-off walk.  Chad Morrison added a one-out single, and then Joe Hanisch hit a three-run home run to pull Humboldt/Hartford within a run, 5-4.  Kyle Bailey tied the game with an RBI single later in the inning.  The two teams were locked at 5-5 until the bottom of the ninth.  Noah Vettrus started the inning with a walk.  Zach Treiber laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Vettrus to second.  Cavanaugh then sent a 2-2 pitch to right field for the game-winning hit.

Hanisch had two hits, a double and home run, and three RBIs.  Cavanaugh had two hits and an RBI.  Quigley and Bailey both had a single and an RBI.  Chad Morrison, Broc Haldeman, Brandon McKnight, and Adam Hentges all had singles in the game.  Treiber pitched three innings allowing four earned runs on three hits with six walks and two strikeouts.  McKnight pitched three innings and allowed an earned run on two hits with three strikeouts.  Vettrus pitched the final three innings allowing three hits anda  walk with two strikeouts.

PBR Falls to Flandreau in League Play

Dell Rapids PBR fell to the Flandreau Cardinals on the road on Thursday, May 19th by a score of 13-3.

Flandreau broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of third inning with four runs.  PBR got one run in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI ground out by Riley Calhoon.  PBR then pulled within a run, 4-3, after scoring twice in the top of the fifth.  Calhoon drove home two more runs with a double to left field.  Flandreau, however, scored nine unanswered runs.  The Cardinals got a run in the fifth, four in the sixth, three in the seventh, and one more in the eighth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Calhoon had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Weston Hanson also had two hits.  Sheldon Davis had the other hit for PBR.  Grant Sweeter pitched six innings and allowed nine runs, four earned, on nine hits and four walks while striking out four.  Dale Solberg pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

PBR will travel to Lennox on Sunday, May 22nd.

Gamecocks Fall to Mudcats in Cornbelt Action

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks (3-2, 1-1) lost a road game to the Dell Rapids Mudcats 7-2 on Thursday, May 19th at Rickeman Field in Dell Rapids.

The Gamecocks struck first when Joe Hanisch singled and later scored on a wild pitch in the first inning.  The Mudcats took the lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs.  The score remained 2-1 until the top of the fifth inning.  Broc Haldeman singled to center field driving home Devon Garry to tie the game 2-2.  Dell Rapids, however, score three times in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the seventh for the 7-2 win.

Garry, Hanisch, and Brandon McKnight all had doubles in the game.  Haldeman had two singles and an RBI.  Garry pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Seth Cavanaugh pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed a hit and a walk.  Drew Maras threw two innings allowing two runs, neither earned, on three hits and logged four strikeouts.  Haldaman pitched one inning and gave up one hit.
