Hartford/Humboldt Legion Takes Two from Lennox

The Hartford/Humboldt legion team won both games of a double-header with Lennox on Tuesday, June 21st.  They took the first game 4-3, and then won the second game 9-2.

Hartford/Humboldt 4, Lennox 3

The first game came down to the final inning and ended in exciting fashion.  Both teams scored two runs in the first inning.  Braden Herr hit an RBI sacrifice fly and Domo Chandaswang had an RBI single for Hartford/Humboldt to tie the game 2-2.  The score remained 2-2 until the seventh inning.

Lennox took the lead, 3-2, with a two-out RBI single to center field. Hartford/Humboldt put together a big rally in the bottom of the seventh.  Seth Gabbert was hit by a pitch to start the inning.  Gage Nelson singled to center field which put runners on first and third with no outs.  Bennett Sebert followed with an RBI single to tie the game and move Nelson to third.  Jack Linneman then hit the game-winning RBI sacrifice fly to right field.

Sebert had three hits and an RBI.  Chandaswang had two singles and an RBI.  Linneman finished with a hit and RBI.  Nelson and Andrew Zimmer both had a single, and Herr finished with an RBI.  Derek Renken pitched the first four innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.  Chandaswang got the win pitching 2 2/3 innings while allowing an unearned run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Hartford/Humboldt 9, Lennox 2

The momentum from game one carried into game two as Hartford/Humboldt scored nine unanswered runs in the first four innings.  They got three runs each in the second, third, and fourth innings.  Lennox got two late runs in the top of the sixth.

Deuce Sherrard belted a three-run home run to left field in the second inning.  Sebert had three hits, including a double.  Gavin Koch finished with a hit and two RBIs.  Zimmer and Nelson both had a hit and an RBI.  Linneman and Renken each had a single as well.

Adam Parsons pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing just three hits while striking out six.  Linneman pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

West Central Blue 14U Wins Second in a Row

West Central Blue 14U used a nine-run second inning to power them to an 11-5 win over Volga at home on Tuesday, June 21st.  This was the second win a row for West Central Blue and eighth overall on the season.

West Central scored all of their runs in the first two innings.  They got two runs in the bottom of the first, and then the big nine-run second inning to lead 11-0.  Volga got two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Jack Sebert had a double, one of only four hits for West Central, and three RBIs.  Taten VanOverbeke had two singles and two RBIs.  Hayes Cain finished with a hit and an RBI.  Nick Lorang and Gavin Dehaven both had an RBI.  West Central took advantage of 10 Volga errors in the game.

Anthony Lanham pitched three innings and allowed only one hit and one walk with six strikeouts.  Sebert pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.  VanOverbeke threw 1 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, but all unearned, on one hit and one walk.

West Central Gold 14U Cruises to Big Win

West Central Gold 14U cruised to a 15-1 win against Dell Rapids Red at home on Tuesday, June 21st.  West Central scored 11 runs in the bottom of the second and four more in the bottom of the fourth.

JT Steckley had two hits and an RBI.  Karson Olson had a double and five RBIs.  Lando Whiting also had a double with two RBIs.  Jacob Mallinger and Braxton Huber both had a single and two RBIs.  Jericho Klein finished with a double and an RBI.  Hayden Whiting had a single, and Bubba Kono had an RBI.

Steckley pitched 2 1/3 innings without allowing a hit while walking one and striking out six.  Klein pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Gamecocks Fall to Platte in Late Innings

The Platte Killer Tomatoes scored four runs in the eighth inning to earn a 9-5 win over the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks on Saturday, June 18th.  The game was played in Humboldt in the first Sunshine League / Cornbelt League amateur baseball showcase.

Both teams put four runs on the board in the third inning.  Platte scored their runs in the top of the inning, with the Gamecocks getting their four runs in the bottom of the inning.  Devon Garry had an RBI single in the inning.  Seth Cavanaugh brought home a run with a single, and Drew Maras had a two-run double to tie the game 4-4.

Platte took the lead again in the top of the fourth, but the Gamecocks tied the game again in the bottom of the sixth.  Luke Wodahl scored on an error to make it a 5-5 game.  The Killer Tomatoes broke the tie with four runs in the top of the eighth to take the win.

Maras had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Garry had two hits and an RBI.  Cam Quigley finished with two hits.  Cavanaugh had a single and RBI, and Wodahl finished with a hit.  Garry pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on two hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  Brandon McKnight pitched four innings and allowed three unearned runs on two hits and two walks.  Maras also pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on a walk with two strikeouts.

West Central 16U Finishes 2-2 in Weekend Games

West Central 16U baseball played four games from Friday, June 17th through Sunday, June 19th.  They split those four games finishing 2-2 over the weekend.

Sioux Falls Post 15 West 16U 5, West Central 3

Sioux Falls Post 15 scored two times in the first inning and never trailed in a 5-3 win over West Central on Friday, June 17th.

West Central cut the lead in half, 2-1, when Jesse Jost scored in the top of the third.  Sioux Falls added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-1 lead.  Will Nester scored on an a fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-2.  Nester doubled driving home Jost in the top of the seventh, but the rally ended after just one run.

Nester had two doubles and an RBI.  Landen Holewa had three hits.  Cain Grocott finished with two hits, one a double.  Jost also had two hits.  Keaton Vessells and Maison Schuldt each had a hit.  Schuldt pitched five innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out five.  Cyrus Maras pitched an inning and walked one batter.

West Central 8, Watertown Red Sox 16U 4

West Central scored early, plating five runs in the first two innings, in an 8-4 win over the Watertown Red Sox on Saturday, June 18th.

Jost hit an inside-the-park home run to start the bottom of the first inning for West Central.  Schuldt added an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.  Watertown scored one run in the top of the second, but West Central answered with three more in the bottom of the inning.  Nester had an RBI single, and Vessells brought home two with a double.

Watertown picked up two runs in the top of the third, but West Central extended the lead to 7-3 after two runs in the bottom oft the fourth.  Jost scored the first run of the inning, and Vessells added an RBI ground out.  Each team then scored a run in the sixth inning.

Jost had four hits, including the inside-the-park home run, with an RBI.  Vessells had a double and three RBIs.  Nester had a hit with two RBIs.  Schuldt finished with a single and an RBI.  Holewa, Cade Vanderwoude, and Jonathan Murray each had a hit.  Holewa pitched all seven innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

West Central 10, Ralston 16U 2

West Central scored early and then pulled away late in a 10-2 win over Ralston on Saturday.  Vessells had an RBI sacrifice fly, and Schuldt had an RBI single in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead.  Nester was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the second, and West Central led 3-0.

Ralston scored two times in the bottom of the third to make it a 3-2 game after three innings.  West Central then pulled away with three runs in the top of the fourth on only two hits.  They then added four runs in the top of the fifth.  Murray had an RBI hit, and Nester brought home two more with a single.

Carter Evens had three hits in the game.  Nester had one hit and four RBIs.  Vessells finished with a triple and an RBI.  Schuldt and Murray both had a hit and an RBI.  Jost, Holewa, and Grocott all had a single as well.  Vanderworde pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

Sioux Falls Post 15 East 16U 12, West Central 0

Sioux Falls Post 15 East scored in every inning and held West Central to just two hits in a 12-0 win on Sunday.  Post 15 scored a run in the first, two in the second, one in the third, and eight more in the bottom of the fourth.

Holewa and Evens each had a hit.  Vanderwoude pitched two innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits with a strikeout.  Vessells pitched one inning and allowed an earned run on a walk with one strikeout.  Grocott pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and two walks.

Humboldt/Hartford Legion Wins Two of Three over Weekend

The Humboldt/Hartford legion baseball team played three games in three days from Friday, June 17th through Sunday, June 19th.

Humboldt/Hartford 1, Big Stone 0

Seth Gabbert threw a no-hitter for Humboldt/Hartford while recording 13 strikeouts, and Andrew Zimmer had the game-winning RBI single in the top of the seventh in a 1-0 win over Big Stone on Friday.

Humboldt/Hartford had at total of six hits in the game, two of them coming in the top of the seventh.  Loren Jacobsen had a one-out single.  Gavin Koch laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Jacobsen to second, and then Zimmer delivered a two-out RBI single to left field scoring Jacobson for the game winner.

Jacobsen had two hits.  Zimmer also had two hits and an RBI.  Deuce Sherrard and Jack Linneman both had hits as well.  Gabbert threw all seven innings and allowed just one walk with his 13 strikeouts.

Redfield 7, Humboldt/Hartford 3

Redfield scored seven unanswered runs early in the game in a 7-3 win on Saturday over Humboldt/Hartford.  The first four runs for Redfield came in the bottom of the second.  They added another in the bottom of the third, and two more in the bottom of the fourth.

Humboldt/Hartford got one run in the top of the fifth.  Braden Herr reached on an error that also scored Jacobsen.  Two more runs came home in the top of the sixth.  Gabbert scored on a passed ball, and Derek Renken had an RBI single.

Renken had a single and RBI.  Bennett Sebert finsihed with two hits.  Jacobsen, Koch, and Gage Nelson all had a hit.  Zimmer pitched three innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits with one strikeout.  Owen Heath also pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Humboldt/Hartford 10, Salem 0

Humboldt/Hartford came back strong on Sunday with a 10-0 win in five innings over Salem.  Koch pitched all five innings allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out five.

Sebert broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the third with an RBI single.  Jacobsen had an RBI single in the inning as well for an early 2-0 lead.  Nelson had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to give Humboldt/Hartford a 3-0 advantage.  Humboldt/Hartford took advantage of four Salem errors, two hits batters, and a walk and scored seven times to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Nelson had two hits and two RBIs.  Sherrard had a double and three RBIs.  Jacobsen and Sebert both had a single and an RBI.  Camden McDonald also had a hit in the game.

Gamecocks’ Five-Run Sixth Leads to Win over Flandreau

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks used a five-run sixth inning to lift them to an 8-1 win over the Flandreau Cardinals on Thursday, June 16th.

Cam Quigley brought home the first run in the top of the third with an RBI ground out for a 1-0 lead.  The score remained 1-0 until the top of the sixth inning.  The Gamecocks then scored five times.  Joe Hanisch had an RBI sacrifice fly.  Adam Hentges added an RBI single to make the score 3-0.  Noah Vettrus followed with a two-run single, and Zach Treiber had an RBI double to push the lead to 6-0.

Flandreau’s lone run in the game came in the bottom of the seventh inning on a balk.  The Gamecocks added two more runs in the top of the ninth on RBI hits by Devon Garry and Hanisch.

Hanisch had three hits, two of them doubles, and two RBIs.  Vettrus had two doubles and two RBIs.  Quigley and Treiber both had two hits each, which included a double, and one RBI.  Garry and Hentges both had a single and an RBI.  Broc Haldeman, Kyle Bailey, and Clayton Hanisch all had one single.  Cole Barthel pitched six innings and allowed no runs on six hits.  Landry Knight pitched three innings and allowed an earned run on three walks with one strikeout.

Wood Ducks Fall to Larchwood in Showcase

The Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks hosted the Larchwood Diamonds in the Sunshine League / Cornbelt League Showcase on Saturday, June 18th.  Larchwood took a 5-3 win over the Wood Ducks.

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the to of the seventh inning.  Larchwood scored three times in the top of the seventh to take a 5-2 lead.  The Wood Ducks were only able to get one run back and left the bases loaded to end the game.  Humboldt/Hartford let a total of 10 runners on base in the game.

Logan Larson pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Wood Ducks, and Presten Riddle pitched 2/3 of an inning.  JJ Jesson had a double.  Austin Smith finished with a single and an RBI, and Rob Lind also had a single.

West Central 16U Falls to Dell Rapids

Dell Rapids 16U scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 3-3 tie and get a 5-3 win over West Central 16U at home on Thursday, June 16th.

Dell Rapids scored the first two runs of the game, a run in the bottom of the first and another in the bottom of the second.  West Central got three runs in the top of the fourth.  Jesse Jost, Keaton Vessells, and Will Nester all scored on ground ball errors in the inning for a 3-2 lead.

A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning for Dell Rapids tied the game at 3-3.  Dell Rapids then took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Cain Grocott had a single and was credited with an RBI.  Vessells, Ty Sichmeller, and Landen Holewa each had a hit.  Maison Schuldt was also credited with an RBI.  Jost pitched three innings and allowed three runs, all unearned, on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Nester pitched an inning and recorded two strikeouts.  Grocott pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Seventh Inning Rally Gives West Central Blue 14U Win

West Central Blue 14U broke a 5-5 tie with six runs in the top of the seventh to earn an 11-5 victory over Elkton on Wednesday, June 15th.

Dylan Bettcher drove home the first run for West Central in the top of the first on an RBI ground out.  Elkton scored twice in their half of the first for a 2-1 lead.  West Central scored the next four runs, scoring two times in the fourth and fifth innings.  Nick Lorang had a two run single, and Hayes Cain and Zach Lorang both scored on errors.  Elkton scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 5-5.

West Central then had their big inning in the seventh.  Z. Lorang had an RBI ground ball, Bettcher scored on a pick-off attempt at third, Alex Siemonsma scored on a wild pitch, Z. Lorang scored on a wild pitch, Gavin Dehaven scored on an error, and N. Lorang stole home.

Z. Lorang had three hits, including a double, and an RBI.  N. Lorang had a single and two RBIs.  Siemonsma, Dehaven, and Taten VanOverbeke all had singles.  Bettcher finished with an RBI..  Siemonsma pitched four innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Ashton Gebhard pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing three unearned runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
