Buchmann Finishes Season at State Golf

Stephanie Buchmann represented the Tri-Valley Mustangs at the 2022 South Dakota State A Golf Tournament at Bakker Crossing on Monday, June 6th and Tuesday, June 7th.  Buchmann finished 65th overall with a two-day score of 217 (109, 108).

Trojan Girls Golf 6th at State A Golf Tournament

The West Central Trojan girls golf team placed sixth at the 2022 South Dakota State A Golf Tournament at Bakker Crossing on Monday, June 6th and Tuesday, June 7th.  The Trojans finished with a team score of 780.

Two players placed in the top 20.  Both Dakotah Larson (90, 93) and Lyric Riepma (83, 100) finished tied for 20th with scores of 183.  Kaylee Olson finished with a 199 (101, 98).  Blaire Eberhard had a two-day score of 215 (115, 100).

Quarrier Girls Golf 9th, Greenhoff 17th at State Golf

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team completed their 2022 season with a trip to the South Dakota State A Golf Tournament at Bakker Crossing Monday, June 6th and Tuesday, June 7th.  The Quarriers finished ninth as a team with a two-day score of 820.

Abby Greenhoff placed 17th overall to earn a medal with a two-day total of 182 (94, 88).  Jayme Schmidt finished with a 204 (102, 102).  Natalie Berg had a two-day score of 206 (111, 95).  Avery Haskell finished with a 228 (112, 116), and Emma Taubert had a 256 (128, 128).

PBR Drops Last Two League Games

Dell Rapids PBR dropped their last two Cornbelt League games.  PBR lost to Canova 11-1 on Thursday, June 2nd.  They also fell to Salem 10-3 on Sunday, June 5th.

Canova 11, Dell Rapids PBR 1

Canova took an early lead and scored in six of the eight innings in their 11-1 win on June 2nd.  The Gang scored a run in the top of the first and two more in the top of the second.  PBR cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third.  Riley Hoffman had an RBI single scoring Riley Calhoon.  The Gang then scored a run in the fourth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh, and then four more in the eighth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Hoffman had a single and RBI.  Calhoon, Weston Hanson, and Tanner Solberg also had singles.  Hoffman pitched six innings allowing six runs, four earned, on 10 hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Grant Sweeter pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing five runs, three earned, on three hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Salem 10, Dell Rapids PBR 3

The Salem Cubs scored three runs in the first two innings and kept rolling to a 10-3 win over PBR on Sunday, June 5th. 

PBR scored their first run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI ground out by Beau Behrend.  After Salem scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, Hoffman had a solo home run in the top of the sixth.  Behrend had an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning.  Salem had a single run in the sixth, and two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings.

Hoffman had a home run and an RBI.  Behrend had a single and two RBIs.  Connor Spindler had two hits, and Calhoon had a hit.  Trey Randel pitched five innings allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts.  Behrend pitched the final three innings allowing five earned runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 16U Starts Season in Luverne

The Dell Rapids 16U baseball team started their 2022 season at in a tournament in Luverne, MN.  Dell Rapids played three games between Friday, June 3rd and Saturday, June 4th, finishing 1-2 in the tournament.

Dell Rapids 5, Luverne 4

Dell Rapids broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the top of the fifth, and then held Luverne for a 5-4 win on Friday.  Brandon Schmidt scored the first run on a wild pitch in the top of the third inning.  Sutton Williams followed with an RBI single for an early 2-0 lead.  Luverne answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Tad Tjaden gave Dell Rapids the lead again with an RBI single in the fifth.  He then stole home later in the inning, and Quinn Carr had an RBI double to push the Dell Rapids lead to 5-2.  Luverne got a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and one more in the seventh, but Dell Rapids held for the win.

Tjaden finished with two hits and an RBI.  Lincoln Fersdahl had two hits.  Carr had a double and an RBI.  Williams finished with a single and an RBI.  Mason Stubbe had a triple.  Schmidt and Matthew Nelson each had a single.  Fersdahl pitched four innings allowing two earned runs on a hit with seven walks and eight strikeouts.  Konrad Richeal pitched the final three innings allowing two runs, both unearned, on two hits while striking out five.

Marshall Orange 3, Dell Rapids 2

Marshall scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to get a 3-2 win over Dell Rapids on Saturday.  Dell Rapids scored first in the bottom of the third inning.  Tjaden had an RBI infield single scoring Cooper Frost.  Dell Rapids was held to just the one run until the bottom of the seventh inning.

After the first two batters reached on errors for Dell Rapids, Marshall pitching was able to get two strikeouts.  Stubbe was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.  Tjaden followed with an RBI single to pull Dell Rapids within a run at 3-2, but Dell Rapids could not get the trying run across home.

Tjaden had two hits and two RBIs.  Stubbe had a double.  Williams and Talan Millage both had a single.  Williams pitched five innings allowing a run, which was unearned, on one hit and four walks with six strikeouts.  Cole Ruesink pitched two innings allowing two earned runs on five hits with one strikeout.

Jackson MN 10, Dell Rapids 6

Dell Rapids a three-run first inning and a three-run seventh inning, but Jackson scored 10 times in between those innings to earn the win on Saturday.

Luke Schoolmeester got the scoring started for Dell Rapids with a two-run single.  Matt Nelson reached on an error that scored Ruesink for an early 3-0 lead.  Jackson got a run in the bottom of the first and then another in the bottom of the third.  Dell Rapids led 3-2 heading into the fourth inning, but Jackson scoured four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth for a 10-3 lead.

Schoolmeester drove home another run in the seventh with an RBI single.  Both Ruesink and Williams scored on a wild pitch in the inning, but the seventh-inning rally was not enough.

Schoolmeester had three hits and three RBIs.  Stubbe finished the game with two hits.  Tjaden and Carson Crosby both had hits as well.  Stubbe pitched three innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.  Millage pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing five runs, none of them earned, on a hit and four walks with two strikeouts.  Frost pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing three earned runs on three walks and a strikeout.  Schmidt threw one inning and struck out two batters.

Gamecocks Win Big over Flandreau

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks took over first place in the Cornbelt League after a 16-1 win over Flandreau on Sunday, June 5th.  The Gamecocks had an 11-run third inning in the five-inning game that ended on the 15-run rule.

Flandreau did score the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on two singles and a double.  Those were the only three hits the Cardinals got in the game.  The Gamecocks took the lead in the bottom of the first with RBIs by Broc Haldeman and Kyle Bailey.  Humboldt/Hartford had only four hits in their 11-run third inning, capped by a grand slam by Bailey.  The Gamecocks added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Bailey had two hits, including the grand slam, and five RBIs.  Haldeman had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs.  Devon Garry also had two hits, including a double.  Noah Vettrus and Adam Hentges both had a single and two RBIs.  Joe Hanisch and Cam Quigley both had a hit and an RBI.

Zach Treiber pitched all five innings allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Flandreau Gets Walk-off Win After Wood Duck Comeback

The Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks scored three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game 3-3, but the Flandreau Cardinals got a game-winning hit with two-outs in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 Cornbelt League win on Thursday, June 2nd.

Flandreau scored in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out hit for an early 1-0 lead.  The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning.  The Cardinals scored two more runs after a hit batter and three straight singles for a 3-0 lead.

The Wood Ducks put together a two-out rally in the top of the seventh.  Tyler Lundborg hit a single to left field.  Logan Colwill reached on an error.  Nathan Adrian had an RBI single, and Grafton Stroup followed with a two-run double to tie the game 3-3.  The score remained tied until the bottom of the ninth.  Flandreau put some pressure on the Wood Ducks when two batters reached with one out.  Preston Riddle got a strikeout for the second out, but two straight singles ended the game.

Stroup had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Adrian had a single and an RBI.  Ryan Healty finished with two hits.  Bennett Sebert and Lundborg each had a single.  Riddle pitched 8 2/3 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on 11 hits and a walk while getting 16 strikeouts.

Gamecocks Score Three Late Runs to Tie Game, Then Walks-off Salem

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks scored one run in the eighth and two more in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game 11-11 against the Salem Cubs and send the game into extra innings.  The Gamecocks then got a run in the bottom of the eleventh for the walk-off win on Thursday, June 2nd.  Both teams battled back-and-forth all game long.

Salem scored three runs in the top of the first only to see the Gamecocks scored three in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch and two-run single by Brandon McKnight.  The Cubs took the lead again in the top of the second inning.  Humboldt/Hartford tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Kyle Bailey.

Both teams traded runs in the fourth inning.  Salem took a 6-5 lead after scoring another run in the top of the fifth.  The Gamecocks took their first lead of the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Cam Quigley tied the game with a lead-off solo home run.  Broc Haldeman had an RBI single, and McKnight had an RBI ground out to give the Gamecocks an 8-6 lead.

The Cubs regained the lead in the top of the sixth with three more runs.  They extended their lead to 11-8 with two runs in the top of the seventh.  Noah Vettrus drove home a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Chad Morrison had an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, and Bailey brought home the tying run with a single.  The game remained tied until the bottom of the eleventh.

Landry Knight got on base with a one-out single.  Quigley drew a walk, and then Morrison was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out.  Knight then scored on a wild pitch to give the Gamecocks the win.

Quigley had three hits, including a double and home run, with an RBI.  Bailey had three hits and two RBIs.  Morrison had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Haldeman and Cooper Maras both had two hits and an RBI.  McKnight had one hit and three RBIs.  Vettrus had a hit and an RBI.  Seth Cavanaugh, Adam Hentges, and Knight each had a hit.

Devon Garry pitched four innings allowing five runs, one earned, on three hits and six walks with six strikeouts.  Micah Warrington pitched two innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Knight earned the win pitching five innings allowing two earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out 12 batters.

Dell Rapids 14U Season Update

The two Dell Rapids 14U teams have played a total of seven games between the two of them early in the 2022 season.

Dell Rapids-Navy is currently 3-0 in the I-29 League.  After a season-opening win over West Central-Gold, they have earned two more wins without giving up a run.  Dell Rapids-Navy defeated Tea-D by a score of 20-0 on May 26th and then earned a 6-0 win over Sioux Falls Christian on May 31st.  They will travel to Tea on Tuesday, June 7th for their next game.

Dell Rapids-Red is still looking for their first win of the season.  They lost to Flandreau 16-0 on May 26th, Elkton 29-0 on May 31st, and Tri-Valley White 14-2 on June 1st.  Dell Rapids-Red will host Volga on Tuesday, June 7th.

West Central 14U 2022 Season Starts

The 14U baseball season for West Central has kicked off for the 2022 summer.  West Central has two teams playing in the I-29 League this year, West Central-Blue and West Central-Gold.

West Central-Blue is currently at the top of the standings after four games with a 4-0 record.  They have defeated Tea-D 11-0 (May 24th), Sioux Falls Christian 13-3 (May 26th), Hamlin 12-1 (May 31st), and Tea-P 22-1 (June 1st).  West Central-Blue will play Baltic on Tuesday, June 7th.

West Central-Gold is still in search of their first win of the season.  They fell to Dell Rapids-Navy 6-7 (May 24th), Madison Maroon 0-15 (May 26th), Flandreau 9-22 (May 31st), and Elkton 8-10 (June 1st).  They will host Tri-Valley White on Tuesday, June 7th.
