The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys basketball team shook off a slow start and won their fourth straight game, and eighth out of their last nine on Tuesday, February 25th.  The Quarriers defeated the Canton C-Hawks 82-63 in Canton.

The C-Hawks struck first and got out to a fast start in the opening minutes of the game.  They continued to ride the momentum and led by as many as 10 points with 2:51 to play in the first quarter.  But from that point forward, the Quarriers took control of the game.  Dell Rapids cut the lead down to six points by the end of the first quarter at 20-14.  The Quarriers then scored 30 points in the second quarter alone, and they were able to take a lead into the locker room at halftime at 44-40.  The third quarter proved to be the big turning point in the Quarriers win.  Dell Rapids outscored Canton 23-9 for a 67-49 lead heading into the final quarter.  The lead grew to a game-high 23 points with 5:31 to play as Dell Rapids cruised to the victory.

Dell Rapids shot the ball well on the night shooting 53% (33-62) from the field, 44% (11-25) from three-point area, and 50% (5-10) from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers had a total of 31 team rebounds, 14 team assists, and only turned the ball over 11 times while forcing 15 Canton turnovers.

Three players finished in double figures.  Drew Van Regenmorter had the hot hand scoring 24 points while pulling down eight rebounds, dishing out six assists, and grabbing three steals.  Colin Rentz finished with 20 points, six rebounds, and three steals.  Connor Rentz had 14 points and three steals.  Ramsey Heinecke and Landon Ruesink both had nine points each.

Dell Rapids (15-4) will close out their regular season at home on Thursday, February 27th when they host the Garretson Blue Dragons in a girls and boys double header.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

The Canton C-Hawks built a big first quarter lead which was enough to earn a 61-42 win over the Dell Rapids Quarriers on Tuesday, February 25th.

Canton led from start to finish in the game after building a 15 point lead in the first quarter.  The C-Hawks led 22-7 at the end of the first quarter.  Dell Rapids was able to regroup and pull within four points by halftime at 32-28.  Unfortunately for the Quarriers, halftime may have stopped the momentum they were riding from the second quarter.  Canton was able to extend their lead to 45-35 by the end of the third quarter.  That lead grew to a game-high 21 points with 7:03 to play in the game on the way to victory.

The Quarriers finished the game shooting 32% (12-37) from the field, 0-6 on three-point shots, and 64% (18-28) from the free-throw line.  Canton finished 38% (33-61) from the field, 55% (6-11) from three-point area, and 71% (10-14) from the free-throw line.
