Quarrier Track at Howard Wood

Several members of the Dell Rapids Quarrier track team competed at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on Friday, May 6th and Saturday, May 7th in Sioux Falls.

Kylee Fiddelke competed in the 400m dash (1:03.36).  Clara Justice ran in the 100m hurdles (:17.50).  The 4x100m relay team of Hanna VanOverbeke, Sophia Godwin, Madysen VanOverbeke, and Fiddelke (:53.70) placed 14th.  The 4x00m relay team of Godwin, M. VanOverbeke, Kennedy Krull, and Fiddelke (1:53.36) placed 15th.  The 4x400m relay team of Elly Olson, Krull, Justice, and Fiddelke (4:29.54) finished 16th.  The 4x800m relay team of Adisen Stadem, Elizabeth Price, Madyn Lacey, and Peyton VanZee finished in a time of 11:10.66.  Rileigh Foster placed 16th in the javelin with a throw of 102’11”.

Jade Anstine competed in the 100m dash (:11.40).  The 4x100m relay team of Ian Mason, Owen Nelson, Chase Jones, and Anstine finished 12th with a time of :45.85.  The 4x200m relay team of Mason, Nelson, Jones, and Anstine finished 11th with a time of 1:35.18.

Six Cardinal Track Members Compete at Howard Wood

Six members from the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal track team competed at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls Friday, May 6th and Saturday, May 7th.

The 4x200m girls relay team of Ella Griffin, Maya Heinitz, Addison Libis, and Brianna Griffin finished ninth wih a time of 1:54.13.  Lucas Flemmer competed in both the 100m dash (:11.49) and the 200m dash (:52.86).  Nic Gaspar competed in the 300m hurdles and finished with a time of :44.94.

Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks Win 2022 Season Opener

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks hosted the Corsica/Stickney Horned Frogs to open their 2022 amateur season on Friday, May 6th.  The Gamecocks scored seven runs in the first three innings on their way to a 10-5 victory over the Horned Frogs.

Joe Hanisch put the Gamecocks on the board with an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning.  Brandon McKnight followed with a two-run double to give Humboldt/Hartford a 3-0 lead.  The Gamecocks added two more runs in the bottom of the second on a two-run single by Luke Wodahl. 

Corsica/Stickney got a lone run in the top of the third, but the Gamecocks scored two more in the bottom of the third.  Zach Treiber had an RBI sacrifice fly, and McKnight scored on a wild pitch.  The Gamecocks led 7-1 after three innings.

After the Horned Frogs scored a run in the top of the fourth, the score remained 7-2 until the seventh inning.  Corsica/Stickney added another run in their half of the seventh.  The Gamecocks answered with an RBI groundout by Wodahl in the bottom of the inning.  The Horned Frogs then scored two times in the top of the eight, but again, Humboldt/Hartford responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run single by Broc Haldeman.  The Horned Frogs were scoreless in the ninth inning.

McKnight had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Haldeman had two singles and two RBIs.  Hanisch had two hits as well, one a double, and an RBI.  Wodahl finished with a hit and three RBIs.  Chad Morrison, Adam Hentges, Seth Cavanaugh, and Clayton Hanisch all had hits.  Treiber had an RBI.

Micah Warrington pitched three innings allowing an unearned run on two hits.  Cole Barthel also pitched three innings allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  McKnight pitched an inning giving up an earned run on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.  Treiber pitched two innings allowing two unearned runs on a hit and three walks with three strikeouts.

West Central Baseball Wins Third Straight

The West Central High School baseball team won their third game in a row with an 11-2 victory over Baltic on Wednesday, May 4th in Baltic.

West Central scored the first nine runs of the game.  The first two game in the top of the first inning.  Caden Alfson and Andrew Zimmer both had RBI singles.  Three more runs scored in the top of the third.  Two of those came on a two-run home run by Zach Madsen.  Gavin Koch walked with the bases loaded to give West Central a 7-0 lead.

Four more runs were scored in the top of the fifth for the Trojans.  Duece Sherrard had an RBI single.  Grafton Stroup followed with an RBI single.  Alfson added an RBI single with two outs in the inning, and Jack Linneman reached on an error which scored the fourth run of the inning.

Baltic was able to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning.  They added another run in the bottom of the sixth.  West Central scored two more times in the game as well, getting single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Stroup finished with three hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Alfson collected two hits and two RBIs.  Sherrard had two hits and an RBI.  Madsen finished with a home run and two RBIs.  Zimmer had a hit and an RBI.  Linneman had two hits, and Logan Maras and Ben Sebert both had a hit.  Koch added an RBI.

Braden Herr pitched six innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts.  Stroup pitched an inning allowing a hit and a walk.

Cardinal Girls 5th, Boys 8th at Baltic Track Invite

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal track teams were in Baltic for the Baltic Invite on Tuesday, May 3rd.  The girls team finished fifth with 69 points.  The boys team was eighth with 37 points.

Madala Hanson took first place in the 1600m run, second in the long jump, and fourth in the 200m dash.  Jaycee Tebay won the discus and placed eighth in the shot put.  Brianna Griffin was second in the 200m dash and fourth in the high jump.  Ella Griffin was third in the 100m dash and seventh in the discus.  Addison Libis was seventh in the 200m dash, Cami Wolles was sixth in the 1600m run, and Maya Heinitz was eighth in the 200m dash.  The sprint medley relay of E. Griffin, B. Griffin, Heinitz, and Hanson finished second.  The 4x200m relay team of E. Giffin, Heinitz, Libis, and B. Griffin had a fifth place finish.

Lucas Flemmer finished first in the 200m dash, second in the 100m dash, and second in the 400m dash.  John Pica was sixth in the discus and seventh in the shot put.  CJ Smith placed seventh in the triple jump.  The 4x200m relay team of Tate Bunkers, Nic Gaspar, Smith, and Flemmer finished sixth.  The 4x100m relay team of Bunkers, Kyle Bares, Wyatt Geraets, and Pica had a seventh place finish.

Last Inning Rally Falls Short for Tri-Valley

The Tri-Valley High School club baseball team trailed by three runs heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.  They scored two runs without an out, but the rally fell short as Baltic got a 3-2 win on Thursday, May 5th.

The two teams were scoreless for three innings of play.  Baltic broke the tie with two runs in the top of the fourth inning.  The Bulldogs got a sacrifice fly and a bases loaded walk for a 2-0 lead.  They added another run in the top of the fifth on a triple.

Tri-Valley got a lead-off single by Cole Focken to start the bottom of the seventh.  Connor Christensen followed by reaching on an error.  Barrett Althoff laid down a bunt, but Baltic couldn’t get an out, and Tri-Valley had the bases loaded with no outs.  Noah Haynes had a fielder’s choice ground ball scoring Focken.  Everett Althoff hit a pop up to second that scored Christensen, but forced Haynes out at second for the first out, but Tri-Valley had cut the lead to 3-2.  Baltic was able to the next two batters out leaving the tying run at third base.

Haynes and E. Althoff both had a hit and RBI.  Carter Sorenson had a double, and Focken had a single.  Riley Carlson pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Kaden Egger pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts.

Dell Rapids Wins Pitcher’s Duel Against Sioux Falls Christian

Both pitchers pitched a complete game, but it was Dell Rapids that took a 2-1 victory over Sioux Falls Christian in Renner on Thursday, May 5th.  Both starters were on top of their game combining for 19 strikeouts and just two walks.

Dell Rapids broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the fourth inning.  Landon Ruesink started the inning with a single.  He then advanced to second on a wild pitch and then stole third base.  Jack Henry drove him home with a sacrifice fly to give Dell Rapids a 1-0 lead.  Henry notched his second RBI of the game with a single scoring Brayden Pankonen in the top of the sixth inning for a 2-0 lead.

Sioux Falls Christian got their lone run in the bottom of the sixth.  They got a run with two outs on a single.  The Chargers had the tying run on second base with two outs, but starter Treyse Eastman got a ground out to end the inning.  Eastman sent the Chargers down in order in the bottom of the seventh for the 2-1 win.

CJ Smith had two hits in the game.  Henry had a hit and drove home both runs.  Pankonen, Ruesink, Eastman, Sutton Williams, and Will Jaton all had hits in the game.  Eastman allowed one run, which was unearned, on three hits with one walk while striking out 13 batters in his seven innings of work.

Cardinal Girls Win Colman/Egan Golf Invite, Boys Fifth

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls golf team won the Colman/Egan Golf Invite on Thursday, May 5th.  The girls finished with a team score of 343.  Chester was second with 362.  The Cardinal boys teams finished fifth with a score of 355.

Rebecca Heinemann finished third individually with a round of 102.  Rachel Heinemann was fifth with a 116.  Carly Roiger was sixth at 125, and Brianna Weiland finished eighth with a 132.

Noah Olund finished fourth individually with a round of 91.  Brandon Cook was 12th with a round of 105.  Aiden Allen had a round of 119, and Lucas Gaul had a 145.

St Mary Golfers Play in Baltic Invite

SIx varsity golfers for the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals competed in the Baltic Invitational at Northern Links Golf Course in Renner on Tuesday, May 3rd.  Four golfers on the girls team and two for the boys team took part in the tournament.

Rebecca Heinemann placed sixth individually with a round of 102.  Rachel Heinemann finished 12th with a round of 111.  Brianna Weiland and Carly Roiger both finished with rounds of 141.

Aiden Allen had a round of 108 for the boys, and Levi Gaul had a round of 135.

Cardinal Golfers Compete at Jesse James Invitational

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls and boys golf teams played in the Jesse James Invitational in Garretson on Friday, April 29th.  The girls team finished seventh with a team score of 187.  The boys team finished 10th with a team score of 157.

Rebecca Heinemann had the low score for the girls with a 54.  Rachel Heinemann finished with a 63.  Carley Roiger had a round of 70, and Brianna Weiland finished with a 71.

Noah Olund placed 12th individually with a round of 43.  Brandon Cook and Aiden Allen both had rounds of 57.  Lucas Gaul finished with a round of 60.
