West Central 14U Royal Blue and Dakota Valley are playing a best-of-three series to qualify for the South Dakota VFW Alpha Division State Tournament. The first game of the series was completed on Tuesday, July 29th. The second game was started but was suspended after the first inning.
West Central took the first game 7-5 by scoring early and often to build their lead. They scored four times in the bottom of the first and added another run in the second for a 5-0 lead. Both teams scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, and West Central led 7-2 after four innings of play. Dakota Valley rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5, but that was as close as they could get.
Kane G. had two hits with an RBI. Cooper B. and Aiden L. each had two hits. Max L. added a double. Eli K. and Luke L. each had one RBI. Kane G. pitched five innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on four hits and four walks with 10 strikeouts. Max L. pitched two innings and allowed one hit and one walk while recording six strikeouts.
