Four Straight Runs Gives West Central Baseball a Win

The West Central high school baseball team scored four straight runs late in the game for a 7-3 win over McCook Central/Montrose on Wednesday, May 15th.

Keaton Vessells had an RBI single in the bottom of the first.  Landen Holewa added an RBI single in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead.  McCook Central/Montrose tied the game with two runs in the top of the third.  Zach Lorang drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third to give West Central a 3-2 advantage.  McCook Central/Montrose tied the game again with another run in the top of the fourth.

Jesse Jost gave West Central the lead for good with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.  West Central added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Brodie Herr had an RBI single.  Vessells added an RBI double, and Gunnar Alfson had an RBI single.

Vessells had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  G. Alfson and Jost both had two hits, including a double, and an RBI each.  Holewa and Herr each had a single and an RBI.  Lorang finished with an RBI.  Cain Alfson pitched two innings and allowed a walk and had a strikeout.  Herr pitched three innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three walks with six strikeouts.  Hayden Whiting threw two innings allowing an earned run on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
