The West Central high school baseball team earned a win in the Region 3B tournament in Dell Rapids on Wednesday, May 22nd. They, however, fell in the championship game later in the night to have their season come to an end.
West Central 3, Tri-Valley 2
Keaton Vessells had an RBI single in the bottom of the first to put West Central ahead 1-0. The score stayed 1-0 until Tri-Valley tied the game in the top of the fourth. Tri-Valley added another run in the top of the fifth to go ahead 2-1. Caden Alfson tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. Vessells reached on an error that also scored Brodie Herr as the game-winning run.
Alfson and Vessells each had a single an. an RBI. Landen Holewa and Jost both had a single. Anthony Lanham pitched six innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Alfson pitched the final inning and recorded two strikeouts.
Dell Rapids 14, West Central 0
West Central met Dell Rapids in the championship game. Dell Rapids scored in every inning on seven hits while taking advantage of six West Central errors. West Central had just one hit in the game.
Herr recorded the only single in the game. Jack Sebert pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed three unearned runs on two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Herr pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed six earned runs on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Holewa allowed two earned runs with two strikeouts in 2/3 of an inning of work. Hayden Whiting pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed three runs, one earned, on a hit and two walks.
