West Central Football Suffers Season Opening Loss

The West Central Trojans opened the season in Sioux Falls against the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers on Friday, August 30th.  After a slow start, the Chargers took control of the game in the second quarter on their way to a 42-13 win.

The Trojans took advantage of miscues in the opening quarter.  Aiden Bartmann intercepted a pass early in the first quarter and then got into the end zone on a two-yard run with 8:59 to play in the quarter.  A made extra point made the score 7-0.  The Chargers then fumbled the ball on the kickoff and gave it right back to the Trojans.  Sioux Falls Christian, however, was able to keep West Central out of the end zone and keep the score 7-0.

West Central was close to going up two scores, but their run near the goal line fell short and the field goal attempt was no good.  Sioux Falls Christian used that momentum and scored on their next drive on a 12-yard run to make the score 7-6 with 6:35 to play in the half.

The rest of the second quarter was actioned packed.  The Chargers took the lead on a 25-yard pass making the score 14-6.  Karsen Wilde had a 70-yard touchdown run to pull the Trojans within a point, 14-13.  Sioux Falls Christian, however, connected on a 27-yard touchdown pass and two-point conversion to make the score 22-13 right before halftime.

The second half belonged to the Chargers as they scored 20 more points in the final two quarters while holding the Trojans scoreless.
