Titans Third Quarter Sinks Quarrier Girls

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls fell victim to a big third quarter by the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans on Tuesday, February 9th.  The Titans defeated the Quarriers 61-34.

The game was much closer than the score might indicate for three of the four quarters.  The game was tied 7-7 with 2:22 to play in the first quarter.  The Titans had a four-point lead by the end of the quarter, 16-12.  Mt Vernon/Plankinton extended their lead to eight points at 27-19 by halftime.

The third quarter is where the Titans ran away with the game.  They outscored the Quarriers 26-7 for a 53-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  The two teams both scored eight points each in the fourth quarter.

Dell Rapids shot 23% (12-53) from the field, 16% (4-25) from the three-point area, and  67% (6-9) from the free-throw line.  The Titans shot 51% (25-49) from the field.

Zoey Hilmoe had eight points and four rebounds.  Maggie Schmidt had seven points and three rebounds.  Jayme Schmidt and Liz Price both had five points each.  Haileigh Barnhart added three points and six rebounds.

Dell Rapids (4-14) will host the Dakota Valley Panthers on Friday, February 12th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

The Lady Quarriers girls basketball C team lost a heartbreaker Tuesday afternoon to the Mt Vernon/Plankinton girls C team by a score of 25-28.

Offense Rebounds for Quarrier Girls at Conference Clash

The offense for the Dell Rapids Quarriers rebounded on Saturday, February 6th after a tough night at Tri-Valley High School.  The Quarriers defeated the Deuel Cardinals 54-46 at the Dak-12/NEC Clash in Madison.

Deuel had the lead the entire first quarter and led 12-11 heading into the second quarter.  Dell Rapids went on an 11-0 run for a 22-12 lead and never trailed the rest of the game.  The Cardinals went on a 10-1 run of their own to cut the Quarrier lead to 23-22, but that was as close as they would get.  Dell Rapids led 27-22 at halftime.

The Quarriers continued to build on their lead throughout the second half.  Dell Rapids led 43-30 after the third quarter.  They had a game-high 16-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals got within single digits a couple of times in the fourth quarter.  Dell Rapids, however, was able to stop any rally  by the Cardinals for the win.

Three players finished in double figures for Dell Rapids.  Claire Wynja had 12 points on four made three-point shots and also had three rebounds.  Zoey Hilmoe finished with 11 points, four rebounds, and two steals.  Mady Vanoverbeke had 10 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals.  Maggie Schmidt had a team-high seven steals.

Dell Rapids shot 34% (21-62) from the field, 30% (7-23) from three-point area, and 71% (5-7) from the free-throw line  They force 31 Deuel turnovers, 24 of those coming from steals.

The Quarriers (4-13) will host the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans on Tuesday, February 9th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Wrestling Has Two Dual Matches in Parkston

The Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team traveled to Parkston for the Parkston Triangular on Thursday, February 4th.  The Quarriers had a dual match against West Central and Parkston.

The Quarriers fell to Parkston by a score of 39-31 and then tied tied West Central 40-40.

Andrew Weiland, John Mortrude, Jacob Vogel, Zach McKee, Quinn Carr, and Mitchell Klinkenborg all had two wins on the night.

Dell Rapids, which is 8-9 in duals and currently 11th in team seed points, will have two more dual matches on Tuesday, February 9th.  They will wrestle Garretson and Sioux Falls O’Gorman.

Quarrier Boys Lead Start to Finish Against Tri-Valley

Dell Rapids opened the game on a 9-0 run and never trailed as they got a 69-38 win over the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Thursday, February 4th at Tri-Valley High School.

The Quarriers finished the first quarter leading 24-11.  The lead grew to twenty points at 40-20 by halftime.  Dell Rapids continued to pull away even more in the third and fourth quarters.   The Quarriers outscored Tri-Valley 16-11 in the third quarter and then held the Mustangs to just seven points in the final quarter.

Three players finished in double figure.  Colin Rentz had 20 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds.  Brayden Pankonen had 15 points, four rebounds, and four steals.  Connor Rentz finished with 14 points, four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.  Carter Nelson had eight points.

The Quarriers shot 47% (26-55) in the game.  They were 36% (9-25) from three-point area and 73% (8-11) from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids had 17 assists on their 26 made shots in the game.

Dell Rapids (10-4) will host Mt Vernon/Plankinton on Tuesday, February 9th.

Baskets Hard to Come by for Quarrier Girls at Tri-Valley

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls had a hard time finding open looks at the hoop against the Tri-Valley Mustang defense all night long, and when they were able to get a look, shots just didn’t fall for the Quarriers.  The Mustangs defeated the Quarriers 54-17 on Thursday, February 4th at Tri-Valley High School.

Tri-Valley only had a four-point lead at 9-5 with a minute to play in the first quarter.  The Mustangs finished the quarter with a 6-3 advantage and led 15-8 heading into the second quarter.  Tri-Valley then outscored Dell Rapids 20-3 in the second quarter for a 35-11 halftime lead.  The Mustangs outscored the Quarriers 19-6 in the final two quarters of the game.

The Quarriers shot just 15% (5-33) from the field in the game, 18% (2-11) from three-point area, and 50% (5-10) from the free-throw line.  Tri-Valley was 39% (20-51) from the field, 33% (9-27) from three-point area, and 50% (5-10) from the free-throw line.

Haileigh Barnhart had six points and six rebounds.  Jayme Schmidt finished with four points.  Zoey Hilmoe added three points.  Kylee Fiddelke and Claire Wynja both had four rebounds each.

Dell Rapids (3-13) will play Deuel at the Dak-12/NEC Clash in Madison on Saturday, February 6th.  Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., and the game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Flandreau Offense Hot in Win over Quarrier Boys

The Flandreau Flier offense simply couldn’t be stopped on Tuesday, February 2nd.  Flandreau shot 65% (33-51) from the field, 63% (10-16) from three-point area, and a perfect 3-3 from the free-throw line in a 79-67 win over the Dell Rapids Quarriers.

The Fliers got hot to start the game and kept it going from start to finish.  Flandreau led by as many as eight points in the first quarter and ended the quarter leading 21-14.  The lead was back to eight points at 28-20 with 5:00 to play in the first half, but the Quarriers went on a 7-0 run to pull within a point at 28-27 over the next minute.  That was as close as Dell Rapids would get. 

Flandreau went on a 13-0 run in three and a half minutes and end the first half leading 41-30.  The Fliers pushed the lead to 17 points in the third quarter, but Dell Rapids got it down to 14 at 62-48 heading into the fourth quarter.  The Quarriers got the lead down to single digits at 71-63 with 3:35 to go in the game, but Flandreau went on an 8-0 over the next two minutes to secure the victory.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 48% (24-50) from the field, 44% (8-18) from three-point area and 92% (11-12) from the free-throw line. 

Brayden Pankonen had 21 points in the game.  Connor Rentz finished with 16 points and three rebounds.  Colin Rentz had 13 points, four rebounds, and three steals.  Chase LeBrun led Flandreau, and all scorers, with 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Liam Streitz had 20 points and six rebounds.  Tash Lunday finished with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Dell Rapids (9-4) will travel to Tri-Valley on Thursday, February 4th.

Flandreau Defense Leads to Win over Quarrier Girls

Playing on back-to-back nights, the Dell Rapids Quarriers ran into a tough defensive Flandreau Fliers on Tuesday, February 2nd.  Flandreau took advantage of 25 Dell Rapids turnovers, winning the game 67-46 in Flandreau.

The Quarriers held a four-point lead very early in the game.  Mady Vanoverbeke made back-to-back three-point shots, and Dell Rapids led 6-2 with 6:40 to go in the first quarter.  The two teams were tied 11-11 with 2:00, but Flandreau held a 15-13 lead at the quarter break.  The Quarriers opened the second quarter on a 5-2 run and led again, 18-17, with 6:30 left in the half.  Flandreau then got hot from three-point area, going 4-4 in the quarter, and held a 36-26 halftime lead.

The Flier defense then shut the Quarrier offense down in third quarter.  Dell Rapids was held to just seven points, and Flandreau built a 53-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  The Fliers maintained that big of a lead throughout the final quarter.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 33% (17-52) from the field, 23% (6-26) from three-point area, and just 40% (6-15) from the free-throw line.  Flandreau shot 44% (27-61) from the field, 38% (6-16) from three-point area, and 50% (7-14) from the free-throw line.

Jayme Schmidt had 15 points to lead the Quarriers in scoring.  Vanoverbeke added 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Haileigh Barnhart finished with seven points and 10 rebounds.  Three players finished in double figures for Flandreau.  Claire Sheppard had 21 points and five rebounds.  Maria Parsley added 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Bella Pavlis had 10 points and five rebounds.

Dell Rapids (3-12) will travel to Tri-Valley High School on Thursday, February 4th.

Quarrier Girls Flex Muscles Against Baltic

After trailing 7-0 in the first couple of minutes of the game, the Dell Rapids Quarriers went on a 19-4 run and never looked back in a 63-43 win over the Baltic Bulldogs on Monday, February 1st.

The Quarriers played an aggressive, physical style of defense all night long which caused problems for the Bulldogs.  Dell Rapids forced 25 turnovers, 13 of those coming off steals.  Dell Rapids also played aggressively on offense, getting themselves to the foul line 23 times.  The Quarriers were 15-23 from the free-throw line, while Baltic was just 6-7.

The Bulldogs scored the first seven points of the game, five of those from Sami Polzin, for an early 7-0 lead.  The Quarriers then went on a 19-4 run the remainder of the quarter and led 19-11 after the first quarter.  Baltic cut into the lead in the second quarter, but Dell Rapids still led 31-26 at halftime.

The Quarriers grabbed complete control of the game midway through the third quarter.  Holding a five-point lead at 36-31, Dell Rapids went on a 12-4 run for a 48-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  Dell Rapids continued to build on their lead in the fourth quarter for the win.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 47% (21-45) from the field, 33% (6-18) from three-point area, and 65% (15-23) from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers had a total of 24 team rebounds, 14 team assists, and 13 team steals.

Zoey Hilmoe had 16 points, three rebounds, three steals, and three assists.  Mady Vanoverbeke had 15 points.  Claire Wynja had 12 points.  Haileigh Barnhart finished with nine points, seven rebounds, five steals, and four assists.  Becky Dorn had three points and five rebounds.  Baltic was led by Polzin with 17 points and seven rebounds.  Kylie Schneider had 10 points, and Cami Artz had eight points and seven rebounds.

Dell Rapids (3-11) will travel to Flandreau to play the Fliers.  Tip-off for the varsity game is scheduled for about 6:30 p.m.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Dell Rapids Wrestling Places 5th in Brookings

The Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team placed fifth at the Les Tlustos-Brookings Invitational on Saturday, January 30th.  Nine teams participated in this year’s tournament.

The Quarriers finished with 125.5 points.  Harrisburg won the team title with 225.5 points.  Pierre was second with 210.5 points, and Madison was third with 142.0 points.

Jacob Vogel won the 132-pound weight class.  Andrew Weiland, Zach McKee, and Brayden Gee all finished second.  Carson Roach and Weston Mason both had third place finishes.  Quinn Carr had a fifth place finish, and Gabe Clark finished sixth in his weight class.

The Quarriers will be in Parkston on Thursday, February 4th.

Quarrier Boys Win Big at Dak-12/NEC Conference Clash

After a slow start in the first four minutes of the game, the Dell Rapids Quarriers found their offensive rhythm and cruised to a 78-46 win over the Tiospa Zina Wambdi at the Dak-12/NEC Conference Clash in Madison on Saturday, January 30th.

The Wambdi took advantage of the Quarriers slow start and got out to a 9-5 lead with 4:15 to play in the first quarter.  Dell Rapids then closed out the quarter on a 14-5 run to lead 19-14 at the break.  The Quarriers then took advantage of a cold-shooting second quarter for Tiospa Zina.  The Wambdi went 1-17 from the field in the second quarter, and Dell Rapids outscored Tiospa Zina 18-3 for a 37-17 halftime lead.

The Quarriers continued to build their lead in the third quarter.  They extended the lead to 63-36 heading into the fourth quarter, and then scored the first three points of the fourth quarter to lead 66-36 and trigger the running clock for the rest of the game.

Dell Rapids shot 47% (27-57) from the field, 36% (9-25) from three-point area, and 71% (15-21) from the free-throw line.  Tiospa Zina finished 33% (18-54) from the field, 20% (3-15) from three-point area, and 54% (7-13) from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids out-rebounded the Wambdi 35-26 in the game.

Brayden Pankonen had 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists.  Colin Rentz finished with 18 points, six rebounds, three steals, and three assists.  Carter Nelson added 13 points, five rebounds, and three blocks.  Landon Ruesink also had double figures with 11 points and five rebounds.  Connor Rentz had nine points, eight assists, and four rebounds.  Coby Maeschen had a team-high eight rebounds as well as two assists.
