Quarrier Boys Rally to Beat Madison

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers rallied from a nine-point fourth quarter deficit to beat the Madison Bulldogs 58-57 in Madison on Thursday, January 19th.

The Quarriers trailed through most of the game.  Madison held a 16-11 lead after the end of the first quarter.  Dell Rapids was able to trim the lead to 28-24 by halftime.  Both teams scored 15 points in the third quarter, and the Bulldogs led 43-39 at the end of the quarter.

Madison pushed their lead to nine points after a 5-0 run in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter.  However, with 5:54 to go in the game, the Quarrier run started.  The Quarriers went on a 12-0 run over the next 2:20 with points by Austin Ellingson, Sheldon Siemonsma, Mason Peter and Tanner Heim to take a 51-48 lead with 3:38 to go.

The Bulldogs stopped the run with two free throws with 3:01 to go to cut the Quarrier lead to 51-50.  The Bulldogs then regained the lead after a bucket with 1:28 to go.  Jeffrey Schuch put Dell Rapids back in front at 53-52 with 1:12 to go after two made free throws.  Again the lead went back to Madison with :58 after two made free throws, but Siemonsma hit a three point shot from the win with :45 to go to put the Quarriers back in front 56-54.  The Bulldogs were called for an offensive foul with :17 left to turn the ball over to Dell Rapids.  Peter was fouled with :14.6 on the clock and promptly made both free throws to put Dell Rapids ahead 58-54.  Josh Giles hit a three point shot with :08.1 to cut the lead to 58-57.  Dell Rapids turned the ball over on the in-bounds pass trying to baseball pass to their end of the court.  However, the defense kept Madison from getting a last second shot to hold on for the win.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 22-50 (44%) from the field, 3-17 (18%) from three-point area, and 11-14 (79%) from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers had a total of 29 rebounds, 14 assists, and turned the ball over just eight times.

Four players finished in double figures for Dell Rapids.  Schuch led the team with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Heim tallied 12 points and six rebounds.   Peter finished with 12 points and three steals.  Mason Schmidt added 11 points.  Austin Ellingson dished out five assists in the game.

Dell Rapids (7-2) will host Elk Point-Jefferson as part of a double header with the girls on Saturday, January 21st.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Wrestling Earns Two Dual Wins at SF O’Gorman

QuarriersThe Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team picked up two dual wins at a triangular with Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Garretson on Thursday, January 19th, at Sioux Falls O’Gorman High School.  Dell Rapids defeated Garretson 52-24, and the Quarriers also beat Sioux Falls O’Gorman 46-26.

Jacob Vogel, Zach McKee, James Lueders, Gage Carr, Lincoln Richeal, Ben Cavigielli, and Nick Palmer all earned two wins on the night.

Dell Rapids will travel to Lennox for the Dak-12 Conference Tournament on Saturday, January 21st.

Dolphin Defense Shuts Down Cardinal Girls in 2nd Half

DRSM LogoThe Deubrook Area Dolphins held the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals to just eight total points in the second half and pulled away for a 48-29 win in the semifinals of the Dakota Valley Conference tournament in Estelline on Thursday, January 17th.

The Dolphins led by as many as seven points in the first quarter before the Cardinals closed the gap at 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.  The Cardinals scored the first bucket for their first lead of the game in the second quarter at 15-14, but Deubrook regained the lead.  St Mary was again able to pull within a point at 22-21 at halftime.  Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter as both teams combined to score just 14 points.  The Dolphins were able to push their lead to seven at 32-25 at the end of the third quarter.  The Deubrook Area offense found its groove in the fourth quarter and outscored St Mary 16-4 in the final quarter for the win.

St Mary (5-8) will play Colman-Egan for third place in the DVC Tournament on Saturday, January 21st, in Colman at 4:00 p.m. in the old gym.

Quarrier Girls Pull Away Late Against West Central

DRvsWC_GBB_1-17-17The Dell Rapids Quarriers won their third game in a row and their fifth out of six games after defeating the West Central Trojans 62-45 on Tuesday, January 17th, in Dell Rapids.  The Quarriers were able to lead from start to finish in the game and never trailed.

Dell Rapids held West Central scoreless for the first 5:30 of the game and jumped out to a 7-0 lead.  They maintained the seven point advantage at 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.  The Trojans got the game within two points at 18-16 with 5:00 to go in the second quarter, but Dell Rapids outscored West Central 12-4 over the rest of the quarter to lead 30-20 at halftime.  Dell Rapids was able to maintain close to a 10 point lead throughout much of the third quarter, but the Trojans were able to make a little run and cut the lead to five points at 43-38 with just under a minute to play in the third quarter.  The Quarriers were able to get the last basket and lead 45-38 at the end of the third.  The Quarriers then held West Central to just seven points in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Emma Paul led the team with 23 points.  Jayda Knuppe finished with 12 points.  Kaylee Hennen added eight points, and Averi Pankonen had six points.

The Quarriers (7-4) travel to Volga to play Sioux Valley on Friday, January 20th.

Quarrier Wrestling Splits at Dak-12 Meet in Madison

QuarriersThe Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team won and lost a dual at the Dak-12 Meet held in Madison on Tuesday, January 17th.  The Quarriers lost their dual to Elk Point-Jefferson 48-27, but Dell Rapids earned a team dual win against Dakota Valley 48-29.

Jacob Vogel, Zach McKee, Brayden Gee, and Ben Cavigielli all earned two wins on the night.

Dell Rapids will be Sioux Falls O’Gorman for a triangular with SF O’Gorman and Garretson on Thursday, January 19th.  The meet will begin at 5:00 p.m.

ORR Beats Cardinal Boys in DVC Opener

DRSM LogoThe Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in the opening round of the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday, January 17th, in Colman.  The Raiders beat St Mary 61-35.

St Mary was only able to score 10 points total in the first half as the Raiders held a 29-10 lead at halftime.  The lead extended to 51-22 by the end of the third quarter.  St Mary was able to outscore the Raiders 13-10 in the final quarter.

The Cardinals shot 14-48 (29%) from the field, 3-13 (23%) from three-point area, and 4-7 (57%) from the free-throw line.  The team had a total of 28 rebounds, just three assists, and turned the ball over 16 times.  The Raiders finished 25-53 (47%) from the field in the game.

Connor Libis led the team in scoring with 11 points.  Luke Brown finished with eight points, and Logan Gaspar added six points.  Garret Frost and Max Herber led the team with five rebounds each, while Brown had four rebounds.  Gaspar also had four blocked shots, and Austin Welbig finished with three assists.

St Mary (5-6) will play Estelline for the third time this year in the consolation round of the DVC Tournament.  Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20th, at Colman.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Boys Shut Down Garretson

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers Garretson to just 44 points in a 70-44 win over the Blue Dragons on Monday, January 16th, in Garreston.

Dell Rapids only had a one point lead after the first quarter at 12-11, but the Quarriers held Garretson to just nine points and pushed their lead to 32-20 by halftime.  The Quarriers then outscored the Blue Dragons 15-11 in the third quarter, and then outscored Garretson 23-13 in the final quarter for the win.

Dell Rapids finished the night 29-58 (50%) from the field, 6-16 (38%) from the free-throw line, and 6-14 (43%) from the free-throw line.  The team had a total of 37 rebounds, 21 assists, 11 steals, and only turned the ball over six times.

Jeffrey Schuch had a double-double in the game with 24 points and 13 rebounds.  Schuch also had four blocked shots.  Mason Schmidt finished with 15 points and six rebounds.  Austin Ellingson added 13 points, five assists, and four steals.  Carson Rentz also had five assists.

Dell Rapids travels to Madison on Thursday, January 19th, to play the Bulldogs.  Big Sioux Media will have a link to a live stream of the ball game.

Cardinal Girls Win at DVC

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls won their opening round game of the Dakota Valley Conference tournament 39-30 over the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders on Monday, January 16th, in Estelline.  The Cardinals held the lead after every quarter break in the game.

St Mary had just a one point lead at the end of the first quarter at 6-5.  The Cardinal offense then scored 18 points in the second quarter while holding the Raiders to just five points to take a 24-10 lead at halftime.  O-R-R was able to cut the lead to nine points at 33-24 by the end of the third quarter, but both teams scored six points as the Cardinals won to advance to the semifinals.

Kennedi Mullaney led the Cardinals with 11 points in the game.  Ella Heinitz and Lexi Klein both finished with eight points in the game.  Sydney Cook added six points.

St Mary (5-7) will play the Deubrook Area Dolphins after their 51-12 win over Estelline.  The semifinal game will be played at 8:00 p.m. in Estelline on Thursday, January 19th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Wrestling 7th at Tri-Valley

QuarriersThe Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team placed 7th at the Tri-Valley Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, January 14th.  The Quarriers finished with 113.0 points.  Lennox finished first as a team with 215.0 points.  Mt Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney was second with 169.5 points, and Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes was third with 167.0 points.

Dell Rapids had seven wrestlers place seventh or higher.  Jacob Vogel placed fourth, Zach McKee placed fourth, James Lueders placed third, Gage Carr placed fourth, Mitchell Klinkenborg placed fourth, Ben Cavigielli placed fifth, and Nick Palmer placed sixth.

The Quarriers will be in Madison for Dak-12 Meet #4 on Tuesday, January 17th.

Quarrier Girls Win at Hanson Classic

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers won for the fourth time in five games after a 55-44 win over the Flandreau Fliers at the Hanson Classic Saturday, January 14th, in Mitchell.

The Quarriers out scored Flandreau in three of the quarters in the game.  Flandreau had their largest lead of the game at three points early in the first quarter, but Dell Rapids had the lead at 13-11 at the end of the first quarter.  The Quarriers extended their lead to 11 points by halftime at 30-19.  Flandreau cut the lead to 10 points at the end of the third quarter at 40-30, but the Quarriers got the point back in the fourth quarter on their way to the victory.

Dell Rapids was 21-48 (44%) from the field, 9-21 (43%) from the three-point area, and 4-6 (67%) from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers also had 32 team rebounds and 15 assists.

Jayda Knuppe led the offense with 14 points.  Knuppe also had five rebounds in the game.  Aspen Hansen finished with 11 points and two assists.  Emma Paul added nine points, seven rebounds, and four assists.  Arial Hoffman had six points and seven assists.  Kaylee Hennen also finished the game with six points.

Dell Rapids (6-4) will host West Central on Tuesday, January 17th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
