Volga Shuts Out Tri-Valley 16U

Volga scored in four of the five innings and held Tri-Valley 16U to four jhits in an 11-0 win on Monday, June 20th.  Volga got a run in the first, four in the second, five in the third and, and one more in the fourth inning.

Carter Sorenson had a double.  Hunter Foster, Alex Wingen, and Cody Lofswold all had singles.  Cyrus Kirstein pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on three hits and four walks.  Foster pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  Holden Rise also threw an inning and allowed an earned run on a hit.

Dells Rapids Legion Wins Big after Break

The Dell Rapids Legion baseball team had a three-day break from games after playing nine games in a total of six days between June 10th and June 16th.  The break proved to be helpful as Dell Rapids defeated Sioux Falls Christian 14-4 at home on Monday, June 20th.

Sioux Falls Christian plated three runs in the top of the first, but Dell Rapids responded with nine runs in the bottom of the inning.  They would go on to score in every inning of the game.  Sioux Falls Christian got a run in the top of the second.  Dell Rapids had a single run in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth, and another in the fifth to win on the 10-run rule.

Jack Henry had two doubles and five RBIs in the game.   Will Jaton had two doubles and two RBIs.  CJ Smith and Brayden Pankonen both had two hits and an RBI.  Landon Ruesink finished with a double and an RB.  Joe Rechtenbaugh had a single and RBI.  Braden Fersdahl finished with a single, and Treyse Eastman had an RBI.

Ruesink pitched four innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.  Jaton pitched an inning and allowed a hit and recorded a strikeout.

Madison Gold Scores Late Runs in Win over Dell Rapids 16U

Madison Gold broke a 3-3 tie with six runs in the top of the fifth inning and won 10-3 over Dell Rapids on Monday, June 20th.

Dell Rapids took the lead right away in the bottom of the first inning.  Cole Ruesink doubled scoring Sutton Williams for a 1-0 lead.  Madison got their first lead in the top of the third with three runs.  Dell Rapids tied the game with two in the bottom of the fourth.  Quinn Carr brought home both runs with a double.

Madison Gold, however, took control of the game in the fifth.  They scored six runs all with two outs.  Madison added another run in the top of the seventh.

Ruesink had two doubles and an RBI.  Carr finished with a double and two RBIs.   Cooper Frost, Grady Lamer, and Carson Crosby all had singles.  Tad Tjaden pitched four innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits and five walks with eight strikeouts.  Ruesink pitched 1 1/3 innings and walked two with three strikeouts.  Carr pitched an inning and allowed a run on a hit and three walks with two strikeouts.  Mason Stubbe pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed six earned on five hits and three walks and had one strikeout.

Mudcats Walk-off Alexandria

The Dell Rapids Mudcats got three of their five hits in the bottom of the seventh and scored a 1-0 walk-off win over the Alexandria Angels in the Cornbelt League / Sunshine League Showdown in Humboldt on Sunday, June 19th.

Travis Peters started the bottom of the seventh with a single.  Mark Abrahamson followed with a sacrifice bunt.  After a strikeout, Kris Regas singled to moved Peters to third.  Grant Olson followed with a single and the game’s only RBI.

Along with hits by Peters, Regas, and Olson, Abrahamson also had a hit.  Regas finished with two hits.  Dalton Lehnen pitched all seven innings allowing just three hits while striking out nine batters.

Gamecocks Fall to Platte in Late Innings

The Platte Killer Tomatoes scored four runs in the eighth inning to earn a 9-5 win over the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks on Saturday, June 18th.  The game was played in Humboldt in the first Sunshine League / Cornbelt League amateur baseball showcase.

Both teams put four runs on the board in the third inning.  Platte scored their runs in the top of the inning, with the Gamecocks getting their four runs in the bottom of the inning.  Devon Garry had an RBI single in the inning.  Seth Cavanaugh brought home a run with a single, and Drew Maras had a two-run double to tie the game 4-4.

Platte took the lead again in the top of the fourth, but the Gamecocks tied the game again in the bottom of the sixth.  Luke Wodahl scored on an error to make it a 5-5 game.  The Killer Tomatoes broke the tie with four runs in the top of the eighth to take the win.

Maras had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Garry had two hits and an RBI.  Cam Quigley finished with two hits.  Cavanaugh had a single and RBI, and Wodahl finished with a hit.  Garry pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on two hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  Brandon McKnight pitched four innings and allowed three unearned runs on two hits and two walks.  Maras also pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on a walk with two strikeouts.

PBR Scores Win over Crofton

Dell Rapids PBR scored three times in the third inning and held on for a 3-1 win over the Crofton Blue Jays in the Cornbelt League / Sunshine League Showdown in Humboldt on Saturday, June 18th.

Riley Calhoon hit an RBI sacrifice fly for the first run of the game.  Trey Randel brought home two runs with a two-out single for a 3-1 lead.  Crofton, which was held to just one hit, scored on an error in the top of the fourth inning.

Randel had a hit and two RBIs.  Calhoon had a hit and an RBI.  Grant Sweeter finished with a double.  Riley Hoffman and Tim Wilhelmsen both had a hit as well.  Beau Behrend pitched seven innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit and walk while striking out 10 batters.

West Central 16U Finishes 2-2 in Weekend Games

West Central 16U baseball played four games from Friday, June 17th through Sunday, June 19th.  They split those four games finishing 2-2 over the weekend.

Sioux Falls Post 15 West 16U 5, West Central 3

Sioux Falls Post 15 scored two times in the first inning and never trailed in a 5-3 win over West Central on Friday, June 17th.

West Central cut the lead in half, 2-1, when Jesse Jost scored in the top of the third.  Sioux Falls added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-1 lead.  Will Nester scored on an a fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-2.  Nester doubled driving home Jost in the top of the seventh, but the rally ended after just one run.

Nester had two doubles and an RBI.  Landen Holewa had three hits.  Cain Grocott finished with two hits, one a double.  Jost also had two hits.  Keaton Vessells and Maison Schuldt each had a hit.  Schuldt pitched five innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out five.  Cyrus Maras pitched an inning and walked one batter.

West Central 8, Watertown Red Sox 16U 4

West Central scored early, plating five runs in the first two innings, in an 8-4 win over the Watertown Red Sox on Saturday, June 18th.

Jost hit an inside-the-park home run to start the bottom of the first inning for West Central.  Schuldt added an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.  Watertown scored one run in the top of the second, but West Central answered with three more in the bottom of the inning.  Nester had an RBI single, and Vessells brought home two with a double.

Watertown picked up two runs in the top of the third, but West Central extended the lead to 7-3 after two runs in the bottom oft the fourth.  Jost scored the first run of the inning, and Vessells added an RBI ground out.  Each team then scored a run in the sixth inning.

Jost had four hits, including the inside-the-park home run, with an RBI.  Vessells had a double and three RBIs.  Nester had a hit with two RBIs.  Schuldt finished with a single and an RBI.  Holewa, Cade Vanderwoude, and Jonathan Murray each had a hit.  Holewa pitched all seven innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

West Central 10, Ralston 16U 2

West Central scored early and then pulled away late in a 10-2 win over Ralston on Saturday.  Vessells had an RBI sacrifice fly, and Schuldt had an RBI single in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead.  Nester was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the second, and West Central led 3-0.

Ralston scored two times in the bottom of the third to make it a 3-2 game after three innings.  West Central then pulled away with three runs in the top of the fourth on only two hits.  They then added four runs in the top of the fifth.  Murray had an RBI hit, and Nester brought home two more with a single.

Carter Evens had three hits in the game.  Nester had one hit and four RBIs.  Vessells finished with a triple and an RBI.  Schuldt and Murray both had a hit and an RBI.  Jost, Holewa, and Grocott all had a single as well.  Vanderworde pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

Sioux Falls Post 15 East 16U 12, West Central 0

Sioux Falls Post 15 East scored in every inning and held West Central to just two hits in a 12-0 win on Sunday.  Post 15 scored a run in the first, two in the second, one in the third, and eight more in the bottom of the fourth.

Holewa and Evens each had a hit.  Vanderwoude pitched two innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits with a strikeout.  Vessells pitched one inning and allowed an earned run on a walk with one strikeout.  Grocott pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and two walks.

Seventh Inning Rally Lifts Tri-Valley Maroon 14U to Victory

Tri-Valley Maroon 14U scored five times in the top of the seventh inning to get a 9-6 come-from-behind win at Hamlin on Friday, June 17th.

Kaiden Bernards drove home the first run for Tri-Valley in the top of the first with a double for an early 1-0 lead.  Hamlin took the lead in the bottom of the third with a three-run inning.

Tri-Valley responded with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth.  Cole Hendrixson drove home two with a double to left field, and then he later scored to give the lead back to Tri-Valley, 4-3.  The lead was short lived as Hamlin had another three run inning in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 6-4.

The third time Tri-Valley took the lead was for good.  They scored five times in the top of the seventh inning.  Tristen Bunde had an RBI single.  Dylan Christensen tied the game, 6-6, with an RBI single.  Bernards scored on a passed ball, and then Myles DeWitt had an RBI ground ball. Parker Atwood drove home the final run of the game with an RBI single.

Bernards had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Christensen and Atwood both had two singles and an RBI.  Mason Hemme and Denton Bicknase both had two singles.  Hendrixson had a double and three RBIs.  Bunde and T. DeWitt each added a single and an RBI.  Jackson Williams and Owen Bunde both finished with a single.

T. Bunde pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing seven runs, but only one earned, on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts.  Bicknase pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

Tri-Valley 16U Breaks Tie with Eight Straight Runs

Tri-Valley 16U scored eight runs in the final two innings for a 15-7 road win over Hamlin on Thursday, June 16th.

Hamlin took the early lead in the bottom of the first with a run.  Tri-Valley took their first lead with four runs in the top of the second.  Ledger Burggraff, Mayson Rise, and Carter Sorenson all had RBIs.  Tri-Valley scored three more times in the top of the third. Levi Kretzschmar had an RBI sacrifice fly, M. Rise had an RBI single, and Javier Mendoza had an RBI ground out.

Hamlin started to chip away at the lead over the next few innings.  They scored two times in the bottom of the third, two in the bottom of the fourth, and two in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 7-7.

Tri-Valley took the lead for good in the top of the sixth.  Alex Wingen had a two-run single.  Holden Rise added an RBI single later in the inning, and Wingen scored on a passed ball for an 11-7 lead.  They scored four more times in the top of the seventh, all with two outs.  Everett Althoff drew a bases-loaded walk, Cyrus Kirsteing had a two-run single, and Althoff scored on an error.

H. Rise and Wingen each had two hits and two RBIs.  Althoff had a double and an RBI.  Sorenson had a double and two RBIs.  Kirstein had a hit and two RBIs.  Kretzschmar, Burggraff, and M. Rise all had a single and RBI.  Mendoza had an RBI.

Benjamin Myre pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.  Sorenson pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed two unearned runs on two hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  Wingen pitched one inning and recorded two strikeouts.

Tri-Valley White 14U Holds Tea-P in Win

Tri-Valley White 14U scored eight times in the third inning and held off Tea-P in a 13-11 win on Wednesday, June 15th.

Tri-Valley scored a run in the top of the first when Sullivan Snethen scored on a wild pitch.  Tea put together a three-run second inning to lead 3-1 at that point.  That’s when Tri-Valley had their big inning.

Tri-Valley scored eight runs on four hits and four walks in the inning. Tea responded with a five-run bottom of the third, but Tri-Valley held a 9-8 lead after three innings.

Noah Eggert extended the lead with an RBI single in the top of the fourth.  Both Matthew Cypher and Eggert later scored in the inning for a 12-8 advantage.  Tea also scored three times in the bottom of the fourth, and the lead was just 12-11.  Tri-Valley added a big insurance run in the top of the fifth to secure the win.

Cooper Nielson had three hits.  Austin Puetz had two hits and an RBI.  Bracken Sharpe also had two hits.  Eggert finished with a single and an RBI.  Snethen, Cypher, Landen Jensen, and Brenner Struiksma all had singles.

Brady Jewett pitched two innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits with a strikeout.  Nielson pitched one inning allowing seven runs, five earned, on three hits and seven walks with two strikeouts.  Blaine Wiezoreck pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing an unearned run while striking out three.
