Gamecocks Win Third Straight League Game

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks won their third straight Cornbelt League game after a win on Thursday, June 23rd and another win on Sunday, June 26th.

Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks 4, Colman A’s 1

The Gamecocks took an early lead and held the Colman A’s to five total hits in a 4-1 road win on Thursday.

Broc Haldeman broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third with a two-run single.  Clayton Hanisch added another run with an RBI single in the top of the fourth for a 3-0 advantage.  Colman got a run in the bottom of the fourth.  Kyle Bailey pushed the lead back to three for the Gamecocks with an RBI double in the top of the fifth for the final run of the game.

Devon Garry had three hits, two doubles and a triple.  Seth Cavanaugh finished with three singles.  Brandon McKnight had two hits, one a double.  Haldeman had a single and two RBIs.  Bailey had a double and an RBI.  Hanisch added a single and RBI.  Chad Morrison and Adam Hentges both had a single.  Landry Knight pitched six innings and allowed an earned run on four hits and four walks with eight strikeouts.  Micah Warrington pitched three innings and allowed just one hit while striking out one.

Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks 7, Salem Cubs 6

The Gamecocks scored four times in the top of the ninth and then stopped a rally by the Salem Cubs to get a 7-6 win on Sunday.

Haldeman and Bailey both drove home runs in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead.  Haldeman had another RBI on a single in the top of third, and the Gamecocks led 3-0 at that point.  Salem tied the game in the bottom of the third with three runs.  The Cubs took the lead in the bottom of the seventh, 5-3, with two runs.  The score remained 5-3 heading into the ninth inning.

Haldeman drove home his third and fourth runs of the game with a two-run double to tie the game. Bailey broke the tie on the very next pitch with an RBI single.  Knight scored on an error later in the inning giving the Wood Ducks a 7-5 lead.  Salem got a two-run RBI hit in the bottom of the ninth and had the game-tying run on third, but the Gamecocks got the final out on a ground ball.

Haldeman had three hits, one a double, and four RBIs.  Bailey had two hits and two RBIs.  Cam Quigley had a triple.  Cavanaugh, Joe Hanisch, and Luke Wodahl all had singles.  Cole Barthel pitched six innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on five hits and four walks with a strikeout.  Drew Maras pitched three innings and allowed an earned run on three hits with two strikeouts.

West Central Gold 14U Splits Back-to-Back Games

West Central Gold 14U split a pair of games on back-to-back games on Wednesday, June 22nd and Thursday, June 23rd.  On Wednesday West Central got a win over Baltic, but took a lost against Madison Black on Thursday.

West Central Gold 18, Baltic 4

A third inning rally led to an 18-4 win for West Central as the scored 11 times in the inning.  Baltic scored a run in the top of the first, but West Central got two runs in the bottom of the inning.  After Baltic scored five times in the top of the third for a 4-2 lead, West Central responded with 11 in the bottom of the inning and five more in the bottom of the fourth.

West Central only had three hits total in the game taking advantage of eight Baltic errors.  CJ DenBoer had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI.  Hayden Whiting had the other hit and two RBIs.  Bubba Kono, Connor Mebius, and Jacob Mallinger all had two RBIs.  Karson Olson also had an RBI.

Olson pitched three innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  Mebius pitched an inning and allowed a walk while recording three strikeouts.

Madison Black 12, West Central Gold 2

Madison scored three runs in the bottom of the first and scored in every inning for a 12-2 win over West Central on Thursday.

Zach Lorang scored on an error in the top of the second to cut the lead to 3-1.  Madison got another run in the bottom of the second.  Z. Lorang added an RBI single in the top of the third to make the score 4-2, but Madison got five runs in the bottom of the third and three more in the bottom of the fourth.

West Central was led by Z. Lorang with a hit and an RBI.  DenBoer and Nick Lorang both had a hit as well.  DenBoer pitched two innings and allowed four runs, none of them earned, on two hits and a walk with give strikeouts.  Kono pitched an inning and allowed five runs, two earned, on three hits and three walks with a strikeout.  Jericho Klein pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing three unearned runs on two hits with a strikeout.

Tri-Valley White 14U Falls to Madison Maroon

Madison Maroon, who is undefeated in 14U I-29 League play, defeated Tri-Valley White 11-0 on Wednesday, June 22nd. Madison held Tri-Valley to just one hit in five innings of play, while the offense scored in every inning.

Sullivan Snethen had a lead-off single in the bottom of the first inning. Brady Jewett pitched two innings and allowed five earned runs on eight hits with a walk. Blaine Wiezoreck also pitched two innings and allowed five earned runs on four hits and three walks. Noah Eggert threw an inning and allowed an earned run on two hits and a walk with a strikeout.

Dell Rapids Red 14U Gets First Win of Season

Dell Rapids Red 14U earned their first win of the season by defeating Tea-D 8-3 at home on Wednesday, June 22nd.

Connor Hanson pitched a complete game recording 14 strikeouts.  Luke Symens had a double and a single.  Parker Zweifel had a base hit, and Sawyer Hebert had a hit and two RBIs.

“The bats came alive along with the defense to support our guy on the mound.  The entire 17 (players) that showed up played and hit, so a true team effort,” said head coach Kevin Symens.

Dell Rapids 14U Baseball Teams Split in League Games

Both Dell Rapids Red and Dell Rapids Navy 14U teams had I-29 League games on Tuesday, June 21st.  Dell Rapids Red traveled to Humboldt to play West Central Gold, and Dell Rapids Navy hosted Tri-Valley White.  Dell Rapids Navy on their game, but Dell Rapids Red fell to West Central.

West Central Gold 15, Dell Rapids Red 1

West Central scored 11 of their 15 runs in the bottom of the second inning and then scored four more in the bottom of the fourth in the 15-1 win.  Dell Rapids got a run in the top of the fourth inning when Caden Bitzer scored on an RBI ground out by Alexander Heinemann.

Bitzer and Parker Zweifel both had a hit in the game, and Heinemann had an RBI.  Bitzer also pitched and recorded four strikeouts.  Luke Symens pitched 1 2/3 innings and had three strikouts.

Dell Rapids Navy 11, Tri-Valley White 7

Dell Rapids scored in four straight innings to win a back-and-forth game against Tri-Valley.  Both teams scored a run in the second inning, and then they both had big third innings.

Tri-Valley scored four times in the top of the third for a 5-1 lead.  Dell Rapids responded with five in the bottom of the inning and led 6-5 after three innings.  Both teams scored two runs each, and Dell Rapids held an 8-7 lead after the fourth inning.  Dell Rapids Navy then scored three more times in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.

Carson Maeschen had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Tollin Peterson and Kenny Swanson both had a double and two RBIs each.  Thomas Lavoy, Jake Heinitz, and Gage Bunkers all had a hit as well.  Peterson pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed five runs on six hits with two strikeouts.  Swanson pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on two hits with two strikeouts.  Bunkers threw two innings and had one strikeout.

Tri-Valley White 14U Falls to Dell Rapids Navy in Offensive Battle

Tri-Valley White 14U and Dell Rapids Navy combined for 18 runs and 20 hits, but it was Dell Rapids that took the 11-7 win in Dell Rapids on Tuesday, June 21st.

Bracken Sharpe scored on an error in the top of the second for the first run of the game.  Dell Rapids also scored a run in the bottom of the second.  Tri-Valley then had a big four-run top of third getting all their runs on two outs.  Sullivan Snethen, Brady Jewett, Cooper Nielson, and Matthew Cypher all scored on passed balls to take a 5-1 lead.

That lead was short-lived, however, as Dell Rapids scored five times in the bottom of the third.  The two teams went back and forth inning.  Landen Jensen and Snethen both had RBI singles for Tri-Valley to go ahead 7-6.  Dell Rapids also scored two times in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead back 8-7.  Dell Rapids then scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.

Snethen had two hits and an RBI.  Sharpe had two hits, one a double.  Nielson also had two hits.  Jensen finished with a single and RBI.  Cypher had a double.  Jewett and Blaine Wiezoreck both had a single.  Snethen pitched three inning and allowed five earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.   Brenner Struiksma also pitched three innings and allowed six earned runs on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

Tri-Valley Maroon 14U Holds off Tea-P for Win

Tri-Valley Maroon scored all their runs in one inning and then held off Tea-P for an 8-7 road win on Tuesday, June 21st.

Tea-P got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning.  They added two more in the bottom of the third and led 3-0 after three innings of play.

Tri-Valley Maroon then had their big eight-run inning in the top of the fourth.  Gage Egger drove home the first run with a single.  Egger then scored on a passed ball.  Treyson Ricther tied the game when he scored on a passed ball.  Dylan Christensen followed with an RBI single.  Parker Atwood and Denton Bicknase both had RBI singles.  Both Cole Hendrixson and Mason Hemme reached on errors that also scored runs to give Tri-Valley an 8-3 lead.

Tea-P put together a late rally.  They scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 8-4.  They then got the bases loaded with one out after three straight walks.  A strikeout followed leaving the bases loaded with two outs.  Another walk brought home one run, then a single added two more runs to make the score 8-7.  Tri-Valley, however, got a ground out of the next better to end the game and leave the tying run on third base.

Bicknase had two hits with an RBI.  Egger, Christensen, and Atwood all had a single and an RBI.  M. Hemme and Parker Hemme both had a single.  Egger pitched two innings and allowed an unearned run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Bicknase also pitched two innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on a hit with one strikeout.  Jackson Williams pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on a hit and five walks with a strikeout.  Hendrixson pitched 1/3 of an inning.

Hartford/Humboldt Legion Takes Two from Lennox

The Hartford/Humboldt legion team won both games of a double-header with Lennox on Tuesday, June 21st.  They took the first game 4-3, and then won the second game 9-2.

Hartford/Humboldt 4, Lennox 3

The first game came down to the final inning and ended in exciting fashion.  Both teams scored two runs in the first inning.  Braden Herr hit an RBI sacrifice fly and Domo Chandaswang had an RBI single for Hartford/Humboldt to tie the game 2-2.  The score remained 2-2 until the seventh inning.

Lennox took the lead, 3-2, with a two-out RBI single to center field. Hartford/Humboldt put together a big rally in the bottom of the seventh.  Seth Gabbert was hit by a pitch to start the inning.  Gage Nelson singled to center field which put runners on first and third with no outs.  Bennett Sebert followed with an RBI single to tie the game and move Nelson to third.  Jack Linneman then hit the game-winning RBI sacrifice fly to right field.

Sebert had three hits and an RBI.  Chandaswang had two singles and an RBI.  Linneman finished with a hit and RBI.  Nelson and Andrew Zimmer both had a single, and Herr finished with an RBI.  Derek Renken pitched the first four innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.  Chandaswang got the win pitching 2 2/3 innings while allowing an unearned run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Hartford/Humboldt 9, Lennox 2

The momentum from game one carried into game two as Hartford/Humboldt scored nine unanswered runs in the first four innings.  They got three runs each in the second, third, and fourth innings.  Lennox got two late runs in the top of the sixth.

Deuce Sherrard belted a three-run home run to left field in the second inning.  Sebert had three hits, including a double.  Gavin Koch finished with a hit and two RBIs.  Zimmer and Nelson both had a hit and an RBI.  Linneman and Renken each had a single as well.

Adam Parsons pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing just three hits while striking out six.  Linneman pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

West Central Blue 14U Wins Second in a Row

West Central Blue 14U used a nine-run second inning to power them to an 11-5 win over Volga at home on Tuesday, June 21st.  This was the second win a row for West Central Blue and eighth overall on the season.

West Central scored all of their runs in the first two innings.  They got two runs in the bottom of the first, and then the big nine-run second inning to lead 11-0.  Volga got two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Jack Sebert had a double, one of only four hits for West Central, and three RBIs.  Taten VanOverbeke had two singles and two RBIs.  Hayes Cain finished with a hit and an RBI.  Nick Lorang and Gavin Dehaven both had an RBI.  West Central took advantage of 10 Volga errors in the game.

Anthony Lanham pitched three innings and allowed only one hit and one walk with six strikeouts.  Sebert pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.  VanOverbeke threw 1 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, but all unearned, on one hit and one walk.

West Central Gold 14U Cruises to Big Win

West Central Gold 14U cruised to a 15-1 win against Dell Rapids Red at home on Tuesday, June 21st.  West Central scored 11 runs in the bottom of the second and four more in the bottom of the fourth.

JT Steckley had two hits and an RBI.  Karson Olson had a double and five RBIs.  Lando Whiting also had a double with two RBIs.  Jacob Mallinger and Braxton Huber both had a single and two RBIs.  Jericho Klein finished with a double and an RBI.  Hayden Whiting had a single, and Bubba Kono had an RBI.

Steckley pitched 2 1/3 innings without allowing a hit while walking one and striking out six.  Klein pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts.
