Tri-Valley Maroon 14U Falls to Garretson in High Scoring Game

Tri-Valley Maroon 14U and Garretson combined for 34 runs on Monday, June 27th, but it was Garretson that took the win by a score of 22-12.

Tri-Valley got out to a big lead early in the game.  They scored four runs in the top of the first, one in the second, and five in the top of the third.  Garretson scored just one run in the bottom of the first, and Tri-Valley led 10-1 going into the bottom of the third inning.

Garretson then scored seven times in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 10-8.  Tri-Valley scored a run in the top of the fourth, but Garretson responded with three more in the bottom of the inning. The game was tied 11-11 after four innings.  Garretson had another seven-run inning in the bottom of the fifth.  Tri-Valley added one more run in the sixth, but Garretson scored four more times to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Treyson Richter had three hits and two RBIs.  Gage Egger had two hits and two RBIs.  Cole Hendrixson added two hits and an RBI.  Kaiden Bernards and Tristen Bunde both had a hit and an RBI.  Dylan Christensen and Parker Hemme both had an RBI.

Dell Rapids Mudcats Blank Lennox

The Dell Rapids Mudcats won their fourth game in a row after a 10-0 win against Lennox on Sunday, June 26th.

The Mudcats put the pressure on early scoring two times in the bottom of the first inning.  They added four runs in the third and four more in the fifth.  Lennox’s biggest threat to score in the game came in the second inning.  They had runners on second and third with no outs, but starting pitcher Dalton Lehnen struck out the next three batters to end the threat.

Dell Rapids pounded 17 hits in the game.  Ty Hoglund had four hits and an RBI.  Kris Regas had three hits and two RBIs.  Lehnen added two hits and an RBI.  Travis Peters finished with three hits.  Mark Abrahamson and Elijah Story both had two hits each.  Chad Hunt also had a hit.

Lehnan pitched all seven innings allowing just five hits while recording 11 strikeouts.

Canova Scores Early, Beats PBR

The Canova Gang got out to an earl 6-1 lead and defeated Dell Rapids PBR by five, 14-9, on Sunday, June 26th in Canova.

PBR got a run in the top of the first.  Riley Hoffman hit an RBI single to center scoring Riley Calhoon.  That was the only lead for PBR in the game.  The Gang scored four runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the second to open a 6-1 lead after two innings.

Dell Rapids cut the lead in half with two runs in the top of the fifth.  Trey Randel bunted and reached on an error that scored Andrew Barr. Hoffman added an RBI ground out, and PBR trailed 6-3.  Canova, however, got three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the six to push the lead to 11-3.

PBR put together a little rally in the later innings.  They scored a run in the top of the seventh and then three more in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 11-7.  Canova, however, also scored three times in the bottom of the eighth.  PBR then got two runs in the top of the ninth.

Teagan Schlimgen had four hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Hoffman had three hits and two RBIs.  Barr finished with two hits and an RBI.  Grant Sweeter added a hit and an RBI.  Calhoon had two hits. Tim Wilhelmsen and Beau Behrend both had a hit.  Randel pitched six innings and allowed 11 runs, only five earned, on 11 hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  Behrend pitched two innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits and four walks.

Dell Rapids Navy 14U Splits Two Games over Quarry Days Weekend

Dell Rapids Navy 14U played two games over the Quarry Days weekend.  They traveled to Elkton on Friday, June 24th and then hosted Volga on Sunday, June 26th.\

Dell Rapids Navy 20, Elkton 8

Elkton had a 5-2 lead after three innings of play, but Dell Rapids outscored Elkton 18-3 over the next three for the win.

Dell Rapids scored a run in the top of the first, but Elkton scored four times in their half of the first for a 4-1 lead.  Dell Rapids got one run back in the top of the second, but Elkton pushed the lead back to three runs with a run in the bottom of the third.  That’s when Dell Rapids’ offense took control.  They scored two runs in the top of the fourth, nine in the top of the fifth, and seven more in the top of the sixth.  Elkton got three runs in the bottom of the sixth before the game ended on the 10-run rule.

Kenny Swanson had three hits and three RBIs.  Jake Heinitz had three hits and two RBIs.    Jack Paterson also had three hits and an RBI.

Volga 11, Dell Rapids 7

Volga took the lead in the top of the third with a big five-run inning and pulled away from there for an 11-7 win on Sunday.

Dell Rapids scored two runs in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead.  Volga scored five times in the top of the third.  Dell Rapids got two more runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 5-4, but Volga scored three times in the top of the fourth and added another in the top of the sixth.  They then scored two times in the top of the seventh.  Dell Rapids scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally was cut short.

Paterson had two hits and three RBIs.  Swanson and Gage Bunkers both had two hits in the game.

Dell Rapids Wins Legion Tournament in Humboldt

Dell Rapids played five games in three days at a tournament in Humboldt and ended the weekend as champions.  They played two games on Friday, June 24th, one game on Saturday, June 25th, and then two more on Sunday, June 26th.

Dell Rapids 9, Lennox 5

In the first game, Dell Rapids earned a come-from-behind win against Lennox on Friday.  Lennox had an early lead after a run in the top of the second.  Dell Rapids tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third.  They took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 3-1 lead.  Lennox regained the lead with four runs in the top of the fifth.  The lead was short lived as Dell Rapids had a big five-run fifth inning and added one more in the sixth.

CJ Smith had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Will Jaton also had two hits and two RBIs.  Jack Henry added two hits and an RBI.  Dylan Mathis finished with a single and an RBI.  Brayden Pankonen, Landon Ruesink, Treyse Eastman, and Braden Fersdahl all had singles.  Pankonen pitched four innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on seven hits an two walks with three strikeouts.  Henry pitched two innings and allowed an earned run on a hit and three walks with two strikeouts.  Jaton pitched an inning and recorded one strikeout.

Tabor 5, Dell Rapids 4

In their second meeting of the season, Tabor scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a walk-off win over Dell Rapids 5-4 also on Friday.  Tabor broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fifth with two runs.  Dell Rapids countered with four runs in the top of the sixth, only to see Tabor get three runs to win the game in the seventh.

Austin Harvey had a hit and an RBI.  Ruesink finished with two hits.  Pankonen, Smith, and Eastman all had hits.  Mathis also added an RBI.  Eastman pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Joe Rechtenbaugh pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed a hit and two walks with a strikeout.  Ruesink pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed three earned runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 8, Salem 4

Dell Rapids broke a 4-4 tie with four runs in the top of the sixth and earned an 8-4 win over Salem on Saturday.  Salem held an early 1-0 lead after a run in the bottom of the second.  Dell Rapids tied the game with a run in the top of the third.  Salem got another run in the bottom of the fourth for a 2-1 lead.

Dell Rapids scored three times in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.  Salem, however, tied the game in the bottom of the inning with two runs.  Then came the big inning for Dell Rapids, scoring four times in the sixth for the win.

Ruesink had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Henry had a double and two RBIs.  Mathis added a single and an RBI.  Eastman finished with two hits, one of them a double.  Jaton, Smith, and Rechtenbaugh all had a single.  Jaton pitched six innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts.  Mathis pitched an inning without allowing a hit.

Dell Rapids 20, Salem 8

Salem and Dell Rapids met again on Sunday.  Dell Rapids jumped out to an 8-1 lead after four innings, and then scored 12 times in the final two innings after Salem made a little run.  Salem cut the lead in half, 8-4, with three runs in the fifth.  Dell Rapids scored nine times in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 17-4 to put the game out of reach.

Mathis had four hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.  Ruesink had three doubles and six RBIs.  Henry finished with two hits and two RBIs.  Eastman had two singles and an RBI.  Smith added a single and two RBIs.  Lincoln Fersdahl had a hit, and Aiden Boechler had two RBIs.  Rechtenbaugh pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on two hits and eight walks with seven strikeouts.  Boechler pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  B. Fersdahl pitched an inning and allowed four earned runs on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 7, Tabor 2

The championship game was a rematch between Dell Rapids and Tabor on Sunday, and the third time the two teams played each other this season.  Dell Rapids got to Tabor early and took the championship 7-2.  They scored three times in the bottom of the first and one more in the second to lead 4-0 after two innings of play.  Tabor cut the lead in half with two runs in the top of the third, but Dell Rapids scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

Ruesink had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.  Mathis had two hits and an RBI.  Eastman had a triple and an RBI.  Jaton also had a single and an RBI.  Mason Stubbe and Smith both had two hits each.  Henry and Rechtenbaugh both had a single.  Ruesink pitched all seven innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.

Colton Legion Can’t Catch Madison

Madison scored eight unanswered runs in the first four innings and defeated Colton 12-4 in Colton on Friday, June 24th.

Madison scored five times in the top of the first inning, and then scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings for an 8-0 lead.  Tri-Valley got a run in the fourth.  Nathan Madison had an RBI single, but Madison legion added two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Barrett Althoff scored on a steal of home, Madison had an RBI single, and Tanner VanAsselt had an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 12-4.

Madison had two hits and two RBIs.  T. VanAsselt had a single and an RBI.  Althoff finished with three hits.  Riley Carlson, Brayden Oyen, Lawson Louiseau and Kaden Egger all had singles.  Aiden Heitkamp pitched three innings and allowed seven runs, five earned, on seven hits and a walk with a strikeout.  Althoff pitched two innings and allowed four unearned runs on five hits and a walk with a strikeout.  Connor Christenson pitched an inning and walked three with two strikeouts.  Derek VanAsselt pitched an inning and allowed an earned run on a hit and two walks.

Tri-Valley 16U Drops Three at League Tournament

The Tri-Valley 16U baseball team lost three games at the I-29 League Tournament in Madison on Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th.

West Central 13, Tri-Valley 8

The two teams went back and forth throughout the game, but a seven-run fifth for West Central led them to a 13-8 victory on Friday.

West Central scored three runs in the bottom of the first for an early 3-0 lead.  Tri-Valley took the lead in the top of the second.  Mayson Rise had a two-run single and then later scored on a passed ball, and Ledger Burggraff also scored on a passed ball for a 4-3 lead.  West Central responded with two runs in the bottom of the second and another in the third for a 6-4 lead after three innings of play.

Tri-Valley had another four-run inning in the top of the fifth.  Rise brought home two more runs with a single, Levi Kretzschmar scored on a passed ball, and Benjamin Myhre had an RBI double to give Tri-Valley an 8-6 lead.  West Central then scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth for the win.

Rise had two hits and four RBIs.  Everett Althoff also had two hits.  Myhre had a double and an RBI.  C Carter Sorenson, Kretzschmar, and Burggraff each had a single.  Althoff pitched two innings and allowed six runs, three earned, on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Sorenson pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed seven earned runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Madison Gold 13, Tri-Valley 4

Madison scored the first 11 runs and won 13-4 over Tri-Valley on Saturday.  The top of the first inning ended with two runs in the top of the first.  Madison scored four more times in the top of the second, and five in the top of the fourth for an 11-0 lead.

Hunter Foster and Kretzschmar had back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the fourth.  Both Madison and Tri-Valley scored two times in the fifth inning.  Sorenson had an RBI double, and Rise scored on a passed ball for Tri-Valley.

Rise had two hits.  Kretzschmar, Foster, and Sorenson all had a double and an RBI.  Alex Wingen also had a double.  Althoff and Burggraff each finished with a single.  Myhre pitched four innings and allowed 11 runs, six earned, on nine hits and four walks with two strikeouts.  Lofswold pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk with a strikeout.

Dell Rapids 5, Tri-Valley 4

A 4-4 tie after six innings was broken with a bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh by Dell Rapids for a 5-4 win on Saturday.

Sorenson had an RBI double in the bottom of the first to give Tri-Valley a 1-0 lead.  Dell Rapids tied the game with a run in the top of the second, but Kretzschmar scored on an error in the bottom of the inning to keep the lead with Tri-Valley, 2-1.

Dell Rapids took the lead in the top of the third with three runs.  Tri-Valley made sure the lead didn’t last long as they scored twice in the bottom of the inning.  Sorenson had another RBI hit, and then Althoff also had an RBI single for a 4-4 tie.

Sorenson had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Althoff had two hits and a single.  Wingen, Foster, Kretzschmar, and Rise all had singles.  Wingen pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on 12 hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Lofswold pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed an earned run on three walks with two strikeouts.

Mudcats Shut Out PBR at “Take Me out to the Ballgame” Night

The annual Quarry Days “Take Me out to the Ballgame” between Dell Rapids Mudcats and Dell Rapids PBR went to the Mudcats 8-0 on Friday, June 24th.

The Mudcats struck early with single runs in the first three innings.  Mark Abrahamson had a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning.  Travis Peters hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning, and Kris Regas had an RBI double in the top of the third for an early 3-0 lead.

The Mudcats then scored five more times in the final three innings.  Ty Hoglund had an RBI triple, and Chad Hunt had an RBI single in the seventh.  Dalton Allen added an RBI single in the eighth.  Regas then had a two-run double in the ninth.

Regas not only had two doubles and three RBIs in the game, but pitched all nine innings and allowed five hits and one walk while striking out 21 batters.  Hunt had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Abrahamson also had two hits and an RBI.  Peters had a home run and an RBI.  Hoglund finished with a triple and RBI.  Allen also had a hit and RBI.  Grant Olson had three hits.  Trevor Freudenthal and Jack Henry each had a hit.

Weston Hanson led PBR with two doubles.  Riley Hoffman, Trey Randel, and Grant Sweeter all had a single in the game.  Hoffman pitched seven innings and allowed five earned runs on eight hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  Dale Solberg pitched two innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks.

Wood Ducks Continue Skid Against Salem and Flandreau

The Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks continued their skid with two losses in their last two games.  The Wood Ducks fell to the Salem Cubs on Thursday, June 23rd, and then lost to the Flandreau Cardinals on Sunday, June 26th.

Salem 12, Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks 5

The Wood Ducks started strong with two runs in the top of the first inning against Salem.  JJ Jesson and Logan Colwill each had RBIs for an early 2-0 lead.  Salem got a run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead in half, 2-1.

Then the Salem offense scored seven runs over the next two innings.  The Cubs scored four times in the bottom of the fourth inning and then three more in the bottom of the fifth for an 8-2 lead.  Derek Eidsness hand RBI single in the top of the sixth, but Salem got the run back in the bottom of the inning for a 9-3 lead.  The Wood Ducks scored two more times in the top of the eighth, and Salem added three in the bottom of the eighth.

Kadyn Nolz had two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs.  Jesson and Colwill each had two hits and an RBI.  Eidsness finished with a single and an RBI.  Austin King had a double, and Logan Larsen had a single.  Jacob Ellens pitched seven innings and allowed nine runs, seven earned, on nine hits and six walks with two strikeouts.

Flandreau 8, Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks 4

A big five-run eighth inning for Flandreau sealed the win for Cardinals, 8-4, on Sunday against the Wood Ducks.  After a scoreless first inning, Flandreau got a single run in the second and third innings.  Nathan Adrian drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fourth, and the Wood Ducks cut the lead in half, 2-1.

The Cardinals got another run in the top of the sixth and led 3-1 after seven innings of play.  Flandreau then scored five times in the top of the eighth for an 8-1 lead.  The Wood Ducks rallied in the eighth as well, scoring three times on a three-run home run by Colwill.  Both teams were scoreless in the ninth inning.

Colwill had a home run and three RBIs.  Jesson and Lundborg both had two doubles each in the game.  Ellens had a single, and Adrian had an RBI.  Larsen pitched 7 innings and allowed three runs, all unearned, on five hits and four walks while recording 15 strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 16U Wins Three at League Tournament

Dell Rapids 16U won three games at the I-29 League Tournament held in Madison Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th.

Dell Rapids 14, Flandreau 2

The tournament started with a big win over Flandreau on Friday afternoon for Dell Rapids.  They scored six times in the bottom of the first and never looked back in their 14-2 win.  Dell Rapids had another run in the bottom of the second and seven more in the bottom of the fourth.  Flandreau scored both of their runs in the third inning.

Tad Tjaden had three hits and two RBIs.  Cole Ruesink also had three hits, one a triple, and an RBI.  Lincoln Fersdahl had a home run and single with three RBIs.  Quinn Carr had two hits and two RBIs.  Talan Millage added two hits and an RBI.  Mason Stubbe finished with a hit, and Cooper Frost had an RBI.

Fersdahl pitched all five innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and six walks with eight strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 12, Parker 2

Dell Rapids earned another big win in their first game on Saturday.  They scored in every inning but one in a 12-2 win that ended on the 10-run rule.  A three-run first inning for Dell Rapids set the tone in the game.  Parker got two runs in the top of the third to cut the lead down to 3-2, but Dell Rapids scored two times in the third, four in the fourth, and three in the third for the win.

Stubbe had three hits, two doubles and a triple, and three RBIs.  Fersdahl had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Millage finished with a double and an RBI.  Ruesink added two hits.  Tjaden, Sutton Williams, and Frost all had singles.  Carr added an RBI.

Tjaden pitched a five-inning complete game and allowed two runs, both unearned, on four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 5, Tri-Valley 4

A run in the top of the seventh broke a 4-4 tie and gave Dell Rapids 5-4 win over Tri-Valley on Saturday.

Tri-Valley held a lead after the first and second innings.  They got a run in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead.  Carr scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second to tie the game 1-1.  Tri-Valley answered with another run in the bottom of the second, and they led 2-1.

Stubbe gave Dell Rapids the lead, 3-2, in the top of the third with a two run triple.  Williams brought Stubbe home on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.  Tri-Valley, however, tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third.  The score remained tied 4-4 until the top of the seventh.

Stubbe drew a one-out walk, and Williams was then hit by a pitch to put two runners on with one out.  After a strikeout, Brandon Schmidt was intentionally walked after Stubbe and Williams stole a base.  Millage worked a bases-loaded walk on a full count to bring home the winning run.

Stubbe had a double and triple with two RBIs.  Millage had two hits and an RBI.  Fersdahl finished with two hits.  Tjaded added a single, and Williams had an RBI.  Williams pitched three innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts.  Konrad Richeal pitched four innings and allowed two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.
