Two Big Innings Late Give Trojan Softball Team Win over Huskies

The West Central Trojan softball team scored 11 runs in the final two innings to defeat the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 15-3 in five innings in Elk Point on Monday, April 20th.

Maddy Kunzweiler had an RBI single in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead.  The Huskies took the lead, 2-1, on a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.  Two runs scored on an error in the top of the second inning, and then M. Kunzweiler added an RBI double to put the Trojans back in front 4-2.  Another home run in the bottom of the second inning by the Huskies cut the lead to 4-3.

After a scoreless third inning, Ayla Kramer had an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth for a 5-3 lead, but the second out was recorded.  That’s when the offense came alive.  Miley Travis had a two-run single, Teagan Lupkes added a two-run home run, Stella Siemonsma scored on an error, and Paiten Schuldt had an RBI double to extend the lead to 11-3.  The Trojans added four more runs in the top of the fifth, and the game ended on the 10-run rule after the bottom of the fifth.

Lupkes had two hits, one a home run, and three RBIs.  M. Kunzweiler had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Siemonsma finished with two singles and two RBIs.  Travis added a single and two RBIs.  Schuldt had a double and an RBI.  Briauna Hoff finished with a single and an RBI.  Addy Kunzweiler had a single, and Kramer had an RBI.

Linzie Hoff pitched four innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  B. Hoff pitched one inning and gave up a hit and had one strikeout.
