Early Rally Sparks Trojan Win over Dell Rapids

In a match-up of top teams in Class A softball, the West Central Trojans rallied early against the Dell Rapids Quarriers on their way to a 17-7 win on Saturday, April 13th.

Caitlyn Hoff smacked a three-run home run to center field for an early 3-0 lead.  Dell Rapids got one run in the bottom of the first inning.  The Trojans then put together a big second inning, scoring six runs.  Hoff got her second home run of the game in the inning, and Elisabeth Miller added an RBI hit.  The West Central offense kept rolling and added three more runs in the top of the third with RBIs from Hoff, Jocelyn Nilson, and Miller.  Hanna Raethz added a solo home run in the top of the fourth, and after four innings of play, West Central led 13-1.

Dell Rapids avoided the game ending on the 10-run rule by scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 13-5.  Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning making the score 15-7 going into the seventh inning.  Kadence Lupkes scored on a wild pitch, and Raethz had an RBI in the top of the seventh.

Hoff had two home runs and six RBIs.  Nilson had four hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Raethz finished with three hits, one a home run, and three RBIs.  Miller had a single and three RBIs.  Lupkes had two hits, including a double.  Addy Kunzweiler also had two hits.  Emillee Stofferahn pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.  Hoff pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on a hit and two walks with six strikeouts.
