The West Central Trojans captured the first ever 2023 South Dakota High School State A Softball title with a 4-0 win over the Tea Area Titans on Saturday, June 3rd in Aberdeen. The win ended a perfect season for West Central, finishing with a 22-0 record.
The Trojans broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning. Kaylee Olson had an RBI sacrifice bunt for a 1-0 lead. Jocelyn Nilson brought home another run with a double in the top of the fourth to make the score 2-0. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the sixth inning. Emillee Stofferahn hit a two-run home run to left field to put West Central ahead 4-0.
Caitlyn Hoff pitched a complete game allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out nine batters. Nilson had two hits, a double and triple, with an RBI. Stofferahn had a home run and two RBIs. Olson finished with a single and an RBI. Hoff added two doubles offensively. Izzi Parsons and Hanna Raethz both had a hit each.
