Trojan Softball Wins Three at Dakota Valley Invite, Ends Regular Season Perfect

The West Central Trojan softball team played three games at the Dakota Valley Invite on Saturday, May 20th.  They won all three of their games and finished their regular season with a perfect 18-0 record.

West Central 16, Avon 1

The Trojans scored nine times in the top of the first inning and cruised to a big win over Avon in the first game of the day.  Avon got one run in the bottom of the first, but West Central scored seven more in the top of the second.  The game ended after three innings on the 15-run rule.

Hanna Raethz had a double and home run with four RBIs.  Jocelyn Nilson had two hits and an RBI.  Addy Kunzweiler finished with a triple and three RBIs.  Emillee Stofferahn had a home run and two RBIs.  Caitlyn Hoff and Sophie Rolfson both had a single and an RBI.  Kaylee Olson and Ayla Kramer each had a single, and Elisabeth Miller finished with an RBI.  Miller pitched three innings and allowed one earned run on one hit and one walk with six strikeouts.

West Central 16, Castlewood 2

The Trojans scored 10 runs in the final two innings to pull away from the Castlewood Warriors for a 16-2 win.  West Central scored five times in the top of the first.  Castlewood got one run in the bottom of the inning.  The Trojans added another run in the top of the second.  The Warriors cut the lead to 6-2 after a run in the bottom of the third.  West Central then scored six in the the top of the fourth and four more in the fifth.

Hoff had two home runs and a double with six RBIs.  Raethz had a home run and two doubles with two RBIs.  Olson finished with two hits and three RBIs.  Nilson had a home run and double with an RBI.  Stofferahn added two hits, one a double.  Rolfson had a single and three RBIs.  Kramer had a hit and RBI, and Maddy Kunzweiler finished with a single.  Olson pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.  Stofferahn pitched two innings allowing just one walk with six strikeouts.

West Central 13, Dakota Valley 4

Dakota Valley held an early lead, but the Trojans scored the final 10 runs of the game for the win.  The Panthers scored a run in the top of the first.  West Central responded with three in the bottom of the inning.  Dakota Valley took the lead in the top of the second, 4-3, with three runs.  The Trojans responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning followed by three in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth for the win.

Nilson had three hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Stofferahn had two home runs and seven RBIs.  Raethz had a home run and three RBIs.  Hoff finished with a hit and an RBI.  A. Kunzweiler had two hits, one a double.  Olson and Rolfson both had two hits each.  Miller also had a single.  Stofferahn pitched two innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Hoff pitched three innings allowing two hits with five strikeouts.

The Trojans have earned the #2 seed in the SoDak 16 in Class A softball.  They will host Milbank on Tuesday, May 23rd.
