Gacke and Jones Each Drive Home Three, Mustangs Hold for Win over Raiders

Rowyn Gacke had two home runs and three RBIs, and Emry Jones had two doubles with three RBIs to help the Tri-Valley Mustang softball team beat the Gayville-Volin Raiders, 11-9, on Thursday, April 30th.

The Raiders scored two runs right away in the top of the first on a home run.  Gacek’s first home run came on the first at bat in the bottom of the first.  Jones tied the game, 2-2, with an RBI double later in the inning.  Ava Christensen had an RBI ground out to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.  Gacke’s second home run came in the bottom of the second, a two-run blast to right field.  Kadence Davey and Jones both had RBI doubles, and Syenna Halverson added an RBI single to push the Mustang lead to 8-2 after two innings of play.

Jones drove home another run on a ground ball in the bottom of the fourth, and Christensen added an RBI single to give Tri-Valley a 10-2 lead.  The Raiders would get two runs in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 10-4.  Tyler Gibson had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 11-4.  Gayville-Volin rallied in the top of the seventh.  They scored four runs on a couple of errors and then had a solo home run to cut the lead to 11-9 before an out was recorded.  Davey came in to pitch at that point and shut down the rally with three strikeouts to end the game.

Mattie Huwe finished with two singles.  Christensen finished with a hit and two RBIs.  Davey added a double and an RBI.  Halverson had a single and an RBI.  Hailey Sorenson and Peyton Vogt each had a hit, and Gibson ended with an RBI.  Jones pitched six innings and allowed nine runs, eight earned, on 11 hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.  Davey pitched one inning and recorded three strikeouts.
