Mustang Softball Rides Big Fourth Inning to Win over Dell Rapids

The Tri-Valley Mustang softball team scored 12 of their 16 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning in their 16-2 win over the Dell Rapids Quarriers on a very windy day on Thursday, April 23rd.

After a scoreless first inning, the Mustangs got on the board first in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Hailey Sorenson.  Dell Rapids tied the game with a run in the top of the third.  Kadence Davey put Tri-Valley back in front in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run.  Ava Christensen added an RBI sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1.  The Quarriers added another run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead in half, 4-2.

The Tri-Valley offense then exploded with one out in the bottom of the fourth.  Emry Jones drew a bases-loaded walk, three runs scored on a single by Christensen, Sorenson added an RBI double, Haleigh Wallenstein drove home two with a single, Isabella Wemore-Ocampo had an RBI single, and Rowyn Gacke had an RBI single to make the score 13-2.  After Dell Rapids recorded the second out, Jones had an RBI single, and Christensen drove home two more runs.  The game ended on the 10-run rule after the Quarriers were held scoreless in the top of the fifth.

Christensen had three hits, one a double, and five RBIs.  Davey had a single, double, and home run with two RBIs.  Sorenson ended with three hits, two of them doubles, and an RBI.  Jones had two singles and two RBIs.  Gacke added a single and double with an RBI.  Wetmore-Ocampo finished with two hits and an RBI.  Syenna Halverson also had two hits.  Wallenstein ended with a single and two RBIs, and Mattie Huwe had a hit.

Jones pitched five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits and four walks with 12 strikeouts.
