A big rally late in the game helped the West Central Trojans to a 15-9 home win over the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Tuesday, April 21st. It was the first loss for the Mustangs on the season.
Mattie Huwe had an RBI single for Tri-Valley in the top of the second inning, and Rowyn Gacke followed with an RBI double for an early 2-0 lead. Briauna Hoff smacked an RBI double to center in the bottom of the second, and Addy Kunzweiler had an RBI single later in the inning to tie the game 2-2. The Mustangs took the lead back in the top of the third when lead-off hitter, Kadence Davey, hit a home run to center field. Hailey Sorenson and Huwe each had an RBI single in the inning to put the Mustangs in front 5-2. Miley Travis and Teagan Lupkes hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the inning, and the two teams were even, 5-5, through three innings of play.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Trojans had a big fifth inning. Lupkes hit her second home run of the game to put the Trojans ahead 6-5. Stella Siemonsma scored on an error, A. Kunzweiler had an RBI single, and Maddy Kunzweiler also had an RBI single to give West Central a 9-5 lead. Tri-Valley rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth. Gacke had an RBI single, and Emry Jones drove home two with a single to make the score 9-8. West Central would pull away in the bottom of the sixth. Paiten Schuldt drew a bases-loaded walk. Schuldt and Linzie Hoff both scored on an error, and M. Kunzweiler had a three-run home run to make the score 15-8. Gacke added an RBI single in the top of the seventh for Tri-Valley.
Gacke finished with three hits, one a double, and three RBIs. Huwe added three singles with two RBIs. Davey also had three hits, one a home run, and an RBI. Tyler Gibson had two singles. Jones finished with a hit and two RBIs. Sorenson finished with a single and an RBI. Ava Christensen and Haleigh Wallenstein both had one hit each. Jones pitched five innings and allowed nine runs, seven earned, on 12 hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Davey pitched one inning and allowed six earned runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout.
