Quarrier Girls Rebound Against Garretson

NewDRLogoFour days after their first loss of the season, the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team rebounded with a 62-35 win over the Garretson Blue Dragons on Tuesday, January 2nd, at Dell Rapids High School.  All 10 players that played in the game scored for Dell Rapids.

The Quarriers raced out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back.  Dell Rapids led 11-2 at the end of the first quarter and then pushed the lead to 26-9 at halftime.  The lead grew to 20 points by the end of the third quarter at 40-20.  Dell Rapids then outscored Garretson 22-15 in the final quarter in the victory.

Jayda Knuppe led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Arial Hoffman also added 16 points and had four rebounds.  Sydney Stofferhan had nine points.  Kaylee Henned finished with five points.  Aspen Hansen tallied four points and six rebounds.  Ravyn Hoffman, Regan Stone, and Jenae Schoeberl all had three points each.  Tiffanie Dorale had two points, and Kyra Graham had a made free throw.

The Quarriers (5-1) will host Beresford on Thursday, January 4th, as part of a double-header with the boys.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Flandreau Hands Quarrier Girls First Loss

DRvsFlandreau_GBB_12-29-17The Flandreau Fliers gave the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team their first loss of the season on Friday, December 29th.  The Fliers defeated the Quarriers 55-35 at Dell Rapids High School.  The Fliers used a big third-quarter run for the victory.

Flandreau held a small three-point lead after the first quarter at 12-9.  They were able to extend the lead to four points at 26-22 at halftime.  It was the third quarter that gave Flandreau enough separation for the win.  The Fliers outscored Dell Rapids 17-4 in the third quarter to lead 43-26 heading into the final quarter.  Flandreau then outscored the Quarriers 12-9 in the final quarter as well.

Dell Rapids was led by Aspen Hansen with nine points and four rebounds in the game.  Ravyn Hoffman had seven points.  Jayda Knuppe finished with five points, and Arial Hoffman added four points.  Emma Paul and A. Hoffman led the team with five rebounds each.  Flandreau was led by Kathy Parsley with 18 points, and Mara Lunday with 10 points.

The Quarriers (4-1) will host Garretson on Tuesday, January 2nd.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Girls Move to 4-0

DRvsBaltic_GBB_12-19-17After trailing 4-3 early in the first quarter, the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls cruised past the Baltic Bulldogs 58-23 on Tuesday, December 19th, at Baltic High School.

Dell Rapids closed out the first quarter on a 17-0 run to lead 20-4 at the end of the quarter.  The Quarriers extended their lead to 32-16 at halftime.  The Dell Rapids defense held Baltic scoreless in the third quarter, and the Quarriers led 47-16 at the end of the first quarter.  Dell Rapids then outscored Baltic 11-7 in the final quarter for the win.

Eight different players scored for the Quarriers in the game.  Emma Paul had 10 points and nine rebounds.  Jayda Knuppe also finished with 10 points.  Kaylee Hennen added nine points.  Aspen Hansen had eight points.  Sydney Stofferahn had seven points and five rebounds, and Ravyn Hoffman finished with seven points.

Dell Rapids (4-0) will host their first of five straight games at home on Thursday, December 21st.  The Quarriers will welcome McCook Central/Montrose to Dell Rapids.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Third Quarter Surge Keeps Quarrier Girls Undefeated

DRvsHamlin_GBB_12-16-17After a slow first half, the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team exploded for 21 third quarter points and earned a 46-38 come-from-behind win over the #3 ranked Hamlin Chargers at the Entringer Classic on Saturday, December 16th. The Quarrier defense kept the Chargers in check all night long as Dell Rapids forced 17 turnovers and 30 missed shots in the game.

Both teams couldn’t find the offensive groove in the first half. Hamlin led at the end of the first quarter 11-9. The two teams combined for just a total of nine points in the second quarter, and Dell Rapids didn’t make a field goal in the second quarter. The Chargers led 16-13 at halftime.

Dell Rapids made the necessary adjustments at halftime and came out on fire. The Quarriers went on a 21-3 run to lead by as many as 15 points at 34-19. The Chargers closed out the third quarter with the final four points to cut the lead to 34-23. Hamlin took advantage of some Quarrier foul trouble in the fourth quarter and pulled within three points a couple of times in the game. But each time the Chargers got close, the Quarriers came up with a big made basket of clutch free-throws to keep Hamlin at bay to win the game.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 42% from the field, 36% from beyond the three-point line, and 69% from the free-throw line. Dell Rapids had 19 team rebounds, 10 steals, and six assists.

Arial Hoffman was named the game’s MVP. She finished with 16 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Emma Paul tallied 13 points and had five rebounds. Jayda Knuppe added six points and four rebounds. Ravyn Hoffman finished with five points and three steals, and Kaylee Hennen had four points.

The Quarriers (3-0) will play at Baltic on Tuesday, December 19th.

Quarrier Girls Cruise to Second Straight Win

DRvsTea_GBB_12-15-17The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls cruised to their second win of the season on Friday, December 15th.  After a hard-fought win against Sioux Falls Christian on the road Tuesday night, the Quarriers won 72-42 over the Tea Area Titans at Dell Rapids High School.

The Quarriers jumped out to a lead an 18-7 lead by the end of the first quarter.  Dell Rapids continued rolling offensively in the second quarter by scoring 20 points and went into the locker room at halftime 38-19.  The Quarriers scored 17 points in each of the final two quarters while holding Tea Area to 23 second half points for the win.

Dell Rapids (2-0) will play the #3 ranked Hamlin Chargers on Saturday, December 16th, at the Entringer Classic at Colman-Egan High School.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and the game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Girls Win Tough Road Game to Start Season

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team won a tough road game to open up their 2017-2018 season.  Dell Rapids defeated the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers 53-48 in Sioux Falls on Tuesday, December 12th.

The Quarriers ended the first quarter with a five-point advantage at 12-7.  Sioux Falls Christian was then able to get the game tied by the end of the second quarter at 24-24.  The Chargers scored first in the third quarter to take a 26-24 lead with 6:40 to go in the quarter.  Dell Rapids then went on a 9-2 run to take a 33-28 lead with 2:56 remaining.  Sioux Falls Christian closed out the third quarter with four straight points to make it a one-point game at 33-32 heading into the final quarter.

Each team made a couple of runs in the fourth quarter.  Dell Rapids went on an 11-5 run to push the lead to 44-37 with 4:37 to go.  The Chargers followed that with six straight points to make the score 44-43 with 2:55 remaining.  The Quarriers were able to push the lead back to six points after scoring five straight points.  Dell Rapids led 49-43 with 1:45 to go.  In just 30 seconds, the Chargers pulled within one point again at 49-48 with 1:15 on the clock.  Dell Rapids closed out the game with four straight points for the win.

Three players finished in double digits for Dell Rapids.  Jayda Knuppe had 14 points.  Aspen Hansen finished with 12 points.  Sydney Stofferahn tossed in 10 points.  Ravyn Hoffman and Emma Paul both finished with six points each, and Kaylee Hennen added five points.

Dell Rapids (1-0) will host Tea Area on Friday, December 15th, in a double header with the boys.  The games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Sydney Stofferahn Signs with Northern

SydneyStofferahnSigning2017Dell Rapids senior Sydney Stofferahn signed her letter of intent to play basketball for Northern State University on Wednesday, November 8th.  Stofferahn is a 6’3″ starting center for the Quarrier girls basketball team.  Last season she shot 72% from the field, 50% from three-point area, and 74% from the free throw line.  She averaged 8.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.  Stofferahn was also an honorable mention for Dak XII All-Conference.

Northern State University women’s basketball head coach Curt Fredrickson said in a press release, “We are very excited about this class.  They are a very athletic group, whose size and length are huge assets on the basketball court. In addition, they are great students which will make an instant impact both on the basketball court and in the classroom.”

Stofferahn joins Zoe Hardwick (Eden Prairie, MN), Lexi Wadsworth (Hayti, SD), and Mandee Williamson (Newell, SD) as signers for the Wolves.

2016-2017 Post Season Basketball Awards

BasketballSeveral players from the Dell Rapids and Dell Rapids St Mary girls and boys basketball teams received post season awards for their play this season.

Jackie Wolles earned an Honorable Mention All-Conference for the Cardinals in the Dakota Valley Conference.  Connor Libis was a First Team All-Conference selection, and Luke Brown was also an Honorable Mention All-Conference player.

Jayda Knuppe and Emma Paul were Second Team All-Conference selections for the Dakota XII Conference.  Arial Hoffman was an Honorable Mention All-Conference.  Knuppe was also a State A All-Tourney selection.  Jeffrey Schuch and Sheldon Siemonsma were Second Team All-Conference selections, and Mason Peter was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection.

Quarrier Girls End State and Season with Win

The Dell Rapids Quarriers ended the 2017 State A Tournament and 2016-2017 season with a win over Little Wound 59-54 to take 7th place.  The Quarriers ended their season with a 19-6 overall record.

Dell Rapids fell behind by as many as seven points in the first quarter with :25 to go in the quarter, but the Quarriers tallied the final basket to make the score 19-14 heading into the second quarter.  Dell Rapids then outscored Little Wound 21-11 in the second quarter to take a 35-30 lead into halftime.  The Quarriers extended their lead to eight points with 5:30 to play in the third quarter.  Dell Rapids led 48-41 heading into the final quarter.  Little Wound did outscore Dell Rapids 13-11 in the final quarter, but the Quarriers hung on for the win.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 45% (22-49) from the field, 42% (5-12) from three-point area, and 63% (10-16) from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids had 29 team rebounds, eight assists, and nine steals.

Jayda Knuppe tallied 21 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in the game.  Emma Paul added 16 points and five rebounds.  Arial Hoffman had 13 points and five rebounds.  Kaylee Hennen had five points, and Kali Graham had four points.  Averi Pankonen had three steals for the Quarriers.

Quarrier Girls to Play for 7th

DRvsLen_GBB_3-9-17_3The Dell Rapids Quarriers came up a little short against the Hamlin Chargers in the second day of the 2017 Girl State A Tournament in Brookings.  Hamlin defeated Dell Rapids 53-44 sending the Quarriers to play for 7th place.

Hamlin put the Quarriers in an early hole by outscoring Dell Rapids 16-7 in the first quarter.  Dell Rapids was able to cut the lead down to five at 25-20 by halftime.  The Quarriers were able to take the lead with 4:29 to go in the third quarter, but the Chargers closed out the third quarter on a run to lead 43-34 heading into the final quarter.  Both teams ended up scoring 10 points each in the final period.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 25% (11-44) from the field, 11% (2-18) from three-point area, and 69% (20-29).  The Quarriers finished with 26 team rebounds, five assists, seven steals, and 11 turnovers.  Hamlin shot 44% (17-39), 36% (5-14) from three-point area, and 67% (14-21) from the free-throw line.

Arial Hoffman had a team-high 14 points for Dell Rapids.  Emma Paul had 10 points and seven rebounds.  Jayda Knuppe added eight points and seven rebounds.  Averi Pankonen had four points.  Aspen Hansen and Kali Graham both had three points, and Kaylee Hennen had two points.

The Quarriers (18-6) will play Little Wound in the 7th/8th place game at 12:00 p.m. at Frost Arena to end their season.
