PBR Falls to Colman in Make-up Game

Playing in a make-up game that was supposed to be held on Thursday, June 25th, the Colman A’s defeated Dell Rapids PBR 7-4 on Tuesday, June 30th in Colman.

PBR scored first in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Weston Hanson.  Colman tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by J Sehr.  Colman would take the lead 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI hit-by-pitch of Tim Kuphal and RBI single by Adam Fritz.

PBR cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI groundout by Beau Behrend.  Colman responded with a run in the bottom of the inning off of a PBR error.  Again Dell Rapids cut the lead to one run in the top of the fifth on an RBI sacrifice flyout by Tanner Solberg, but Colman extended the lead again after getting a run on a wild pitch.  Colman led 5-3 after the fifth inning.

Colman picked up two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Colt Hawkins and RBI walk to Hemmer.  PBR’s final run came in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI single by Teigen Lindor.

Lindor had three hits and an RBI in the game for PBR.  Hanson had a hit and RBI.  Trey Randel picked up two hits.  Riley Hoffman and Carter Gullickson each had a hit.  Tanner Olmstead pitched five innings giving up five runs, three earned, on six hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Randel pitched two innings giving up two runs, both unearned, on one hit with one walk and two strikeouts.  Tanner Solberg pitched one inning striking out one.

PBR (5-4) will travel to Madison on Thursday, July 2nd, and then play the Dell Rapids Mudcats at Rickeman Field on Sunday, July 5th at 8:00 p.m.

Mudcats Win Five in a Row

The Dell Rapids Mudcats have won five straight games after getting two more wins during the week.  The Mudcats beat the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks 6-3 on Sunday, June 28th, and then followed that with a 12-1 win over the Salem Cubs on Tuesday, June 30th.

The Mudcats took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth innings against the Gamecocks after a two-run double by Chad Hunt.  They extended their lead to 4-0 after solo homeruns in the top of the fifth and sixth innings.  The Gamecocks got within a run after a two-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth, but a two-run single by Mark Houck in the top of the ninth sealed the victory for the Mudcats.

Mark Abrahamson had three hits in the ballgame for Dell Rapids.  Jimmy Bauer had two hits.  Houck, Hunt, Elijah Story, Grant Olson, Dalton Allen, and Josh Roemen all had hits in the game as well.

Allen earned the victory on the mound pitching eight innings striking out nine batters.  John Spaeth got the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Two days later, the Mudcat offense went to work against Salem.  Dell Rapids scored five runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Bauer and a grand slam homerun by Abrahamson.  Roemen added a solo homerun in the third inning.  The Mudcats scored six more runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Bauer, RBI sacrifice fly by Houck, a two-run single by Kris King, and an RBI single by Dan Gacke.

Bauer had two hits and two RBIs.  Roemen had two hits and an RBI, and Story had two hits in the game.  Abrahamson had one hit and four RBIs, King had a hit with two RBIs, Olson had a hit with an RBI, Gacke had a hit with an RBI, and Houck and Hunt each also had a hit.

The Mudcats (6-2) will host the Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks on Thursday, July 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. and then will play Dell Rapids PBR on Sunday, July 5th, at 8:00 p.m.

Dell Rapids Legion Gets Big Win over Tea

A day after taking a road loss in Madison, the Dell Rapids legion baseball team bounced back in a big way in Tea on Tuesday, June 30th.  Playing in their second of three straight days, Dell Rapids picked up a 13-3 road win against Tea ending the game in the sixth inning on the 10-run rule.

Dell Rapids wasted no time as they scored two runs in the top of the first inning.  Landon Ruesink and Jake Steineke both had RBI singles in the inning.  Tea tied the game in the bottom of the first getting two runs on three hits to make the score 2-2 after the first inning.

Dell Rapids then exploded for five runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back.  Bryce Sommerfeld had an RBI single, Steineke added an RBI groundout, Drew Van Regenmorter brought home two runs on a double, and Noah Swartwout had an RBI single.  Logan Stone added an RBI single in the top of the third inning to extend the lead to 8-2.  Tea got their last run in the bottom of the third inning on a dropped third strike.  They had a total of three base runners the rest of the game.

Kaeden Eastman scored on an error, Stone had an RBI groundout, and Ruesink added another RBI single in the top of the fourth to push the Dell Rapids lead to 11-3.  Ruesink brought home another run in the top of the sixth on an RBI triple and later scored on a wild pitch for the final two runs of the game.

Ruesink finished with four hits and three RBIs in the game.  Van Regenmorter had three hits and two RBIs.  Stone had two hits and two RBIs.  Steineke had a hit with two RBIs.  Swartwout and Sommerfeld both had a hit and an RBI in the game.  Logan Ellingson also finished the game with two hits.

Brady Larson pitched his second straight complete game to earn his third win of the season on the mound.  Larson gave up three runs, one earned, on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts in six innings of work.

Dell Rapids (5-6) will host Volga on Wednesday, July 1st for their third straight game in as many days.

Madison Beats Dell Rapids Legion for Second Time

Madison defeated the Dell Rapids legion baseball team for the second time this season on Monday, June 29th in Madison.  After a 19-3 win in the first game of the year, Madison earned a 13-3 win on the 10-run rule in five innings.

Madison scored 12 of their 13 runs in the first three innings of the game.  They put four runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning.  Madison then followed with six runs before recording an out in the bottom of the second inning.  They then scored two more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 12-0 lead.

Dell Rapids got three runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Drew Van Regenmorter had a two-run triple in the inning, and then later scored on an RBI groundout by Ty Wood.  The game ended on the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning after one run scored for Madison.

Along with the RBI triple by Van Regenmorter, Noah Swartwout, Jake Steineke, Riley Peter, and Logan Ellingson all had hits in the game.  Swartwout pitched the first inning giving up six runs, four earned, on three hits with three walks and a strikeout.  Bryce Sommerfeld came into the game in the second inning giving up four runs, all earned, on five hits.  Kaeden Eastemen pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Dell Rapids (4-6) will travel to Tea on Tuesday, June 30th.

PBR Gets League Win over Flandreau

Dell Rapids PBR used two big innings to earn a Cornbelt League win over Flandreau on Sunday, June 28th at Rickeman Field in Dell Rapids.

Flandreau put together a big first inning getting their first five hitters on base with four of them scoring to start the game.  Flandreau extended the lead to 6-0 with two more runs in the top half of the fifth inning.

PBR rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring seven times.  PBR took advantage of four Flandreau errors and got hits from Beau Behrend, Riley Hoffman, and Aaron Hansen in the inning.  Flandreau regained the lead in the top of the seventh by scoring two runs for an 8-7 advantage.  PBR took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth inning scoring four times on RBIs from Hansen, Nate McKee, and Carter Gullickson.

Hansen finished the game with three hits and two RBIs.  Gullickson had two hits and three RBIs.  Matt Gillogly had a hit with two RBIs.  Tanner Solberg had a hit and RBI.  Hoffman, Behrend, and Trey Randel also all had a hit in the game. 

Brett Mogen pitched five innings giving up six runs, five earned, on eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts.  Randel pitched three innings giving up two earned runs on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts.  Gillogly pitched the final inning for the save giving up a hit and a walk and earning one strikeout.

PBR (5-3) will travel to Colman on Tuesday, June 30th and travel to Madison on Thursday, July 2nd.

Last Inning Rally Falls Short for Dell Rapids Legion

The Dell Rapids Legion baseball team scored two times and had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but the late inning rally was not enough to make the comeback against McCook/Miner on Friday, June 26th.  McCook/Miner held on for a 5-2 win at Rickeman Field.

McCook/Miner rallied for a big first inning.  After two of the first three hitters were retired, McCook/Miner followed with a double and two singles to score three runs for an early 3-0 lead.  Another run was added in the top of the third inning after a triple and an overthrow to make the score 4-0.  McCook/Miner added one more run in the top of the fifth inning to push their lead to 5-0.

Dell Rapids made the game interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Jake Steineke starting the inning with a single, but the next two batters were retired on fly balls.  Ty Wood kept the inning alive with a single.  Riley Peter brought home the first run on an RBI single.  Mason Goeken added a single to load the bases with two outs for Dell Rapids.  Logon Stone added an RBI single to score another run and keep the bases loaded with two outs, but the final out was recorded on a strikeout to stop the comeback.

Stone had two hits and an RBI.  Goeken also had two hits in the game.  Peter finished with one hit and an RBI.  Steineke and Wood each had one hit.  Stone started the game pitching going four innings while giving up five runs, two earned, on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts.  Brandon Kubly pitched the final three innings giving up no runs and no hits with four strikeouts.

Dell Rapid (4-5) will travel to Madison on Monday, June 29th, then head to Tea on Tuesday, June 30th, and finish a three-straight day stretch with a home game against Volga on Wednesday, July 1st.

Dell Rapids Mudcats Win Third Straight

The Dell Rapids Mudcats are currently on a three-game winning streaking after winning games against the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks (June 14th), Salem Cubs (June 18th), and Madison Broncos (June 21st).

The Mudcats earned a 9-2 win in Salem on Thursday, June 18th.  They collected 13 hits in the victory.  Josh Roemen finished with four hits, including two doubles and two RBIs.  Mark Abrahamson had two hits, one of which was a solo home run, and three RBIs.  Mark Houck had two hits and two RBI, Kris King added two hits, and Elijah Story had a two-run single in the game.

Dalton Allen picked up the win on the mound giving up just one hit while striking out seven batters.  John Spaeth pitched two innings of relief striking out four batters.

The Mudcats then earned their third win in a row after an 8-5 win over Madison on Sunday, June 21st.  Dan Gacke belted two home runs in the win and drove home five runs.  Houck had a two-run double, and Chad Hunt also had a double in the game.

Abrahamson pitched the first six innings to earn the victory, but Spaeth pitched three innings of strong relief for the save.  Spaeth held Madison hitless over the final three innings.

The Mudcats (4-2, 3-2 CBL) will host Salem on Thursday, June 25th.

Dell Rapids Legion Rebounds with Win over Beresford

After dropping two games against Humboldt/Hartford, Dell Rapids got back into the win column with a home win on Wednesday, June 24th.  Dell Rapids defeated Beresford for the second time after a 10-3 win at Rickeman Field.

Beresford scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning after getting runners to second and third with no outs.  It was the only run they would get in the inning, and their lead would be short-lived.  Dell Rapids scored three times in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Landon Ruesink, a run on a passed ball, and an RBI single by Noah Swartwout.

Dell Rapids would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run single by Brandon Geraets, and a run-scoring sacrifice fly by Jake Steineke.  Dell Rapids led 6-1 after the fourth inning.  Beresford cut the lead in half at 6-3 in the top of the fifth inning on three hits, but that would be as close as they would get.  Dell Rapids added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Logan Stone had a two-run single, Geraets added another RBI hit, and Steineke drove home another run with a single.

Ruesink finished the game with three hits and an RBI.  Four players had two hits each in the game.  Geraets had two hits and three RBIs, Stone and Steineke both had two hits and two RBIs each, and Mason Goeken also had two hits.  Swartwout had a hit and an RBI.  Drew Van Regenmorter and Ty Wood also had hits in the game.

Brady Larson pitched all seven innings for the complete-game win, which is the second win of the season for him.  Larson gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Dell Rapids (4-4) will host McCook Central/Montrose on Friday, June 26th.

Dell Rapids 15/16s Drop Tough Game to Beresford 16s

Playing in their third straight game, the Dell Rapids 15/16 Teeners lost a tough game to the Beresford 16s at Rickeman Field on Wednesday, June 24th.  Beresford avenged an earlier season loss with a 10-3 victory over Dell Rapids.

Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings.  Beresford scored first with two runs in the top of the third inning for a 2-0 lead.  They would add another run in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0.  Dell Rapids pulled within in a run in the bottom of the fourth inning at 3-2 after a two-run single by Dylan Mathis. 

Beresford kept the pressure on Dell Rapids scoring three more runs in the top of the fifth inning, three runs in the top of the sixth inning, and one more in the top of the seventh inning.  Dell Rapids got their final run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Joe Rechtenbaugh scored on a wild pitch.

Mathis finished with a hit and two RBIs.  Brayden Pankonen, Matthew Goeken, and Rechtenbaugh all had a hit in the game.

Dell Rapids will travel to Volga on Friday, June 26th, for their fourth game this week.

PBR Rallies, but Loses to Madison

Dell Rapids PBR hosted a make-up game with Madison on Tuesday, June 23rd at Rickeman Field.  PBR rallied late in the game, but ultimately fell to Madison by a score of 6-5.

Neither team scored until the bottom of the fourth inning when PBR got a run on an RBI single from Tanner Solberg for a 1-0 lead.  Madison took the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Heath Williams and an RBI groundout by Jon Waba to lead 2-1.  Madison added two more runs in the top of the sixth for a 4-1 lead after an RBI double by Brian Miller and RBI double by Josh Giles.

PBR tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after a two-run double by Solberg and an RBI single by Clarence Fjellanger.  PBR regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning at 5-4 after an RBI single by Aaron Hansen.  Madison tied the game in the top of the eighth inning when Greg Biagi scored on a wild pitch.  The game-winning run for Madison came in the top of the ninth on an RBI double by Mitch McNary.

Solberg finished the game with two hits and three RBIs for PBR.  Hanson and Fjellanger both had a hit with an RBI.  Beau Behrend, Matt Gillogly, Teigen Lindner, and Adrian Juba also had hits in the game.

Riley Hoffman pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  Gillogly pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, taking the loss, giving up two earned runs on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

PBR (4-3) will travel to Colman on Thursday, June 25th for their next Cornbelt League game.
