Dell Rapids PBR suffered a tough Cornbelt League loss at home to the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks on Tuesday, July 7th. The Gamecocks took the win 9-5.
After three scoreless innings, Humboldt/Hartford scored four times in the top of the fourth inning. Drew Sweeter scored the first PBR run on an error in the bottom of the fourth. Humboldt/Hartford added two runs in the top of the sixth, a run in the seventh, and one more in the eighth for an 8-1 lead. Jake Brandenburg smacked a grand slam home run to center field in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 8-5. The Gamecocks got an insurance run in the top of the ninth.
Riley Hoffman had two singles in the game. Brandenburg had a home run and four RBIs. Conner Spindler, Trey Randel, and Tad Tjaden all had one hit each. Brett Mogen pitched five innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Grant Sweeter tossed two innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks. Randel pitched two innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on a hit and two walks with six strikeouts.
