Dell Rapids PBR has opened state tournament play with two wins. They defeated the Colome Chaos 16-0 on Thursday, August 6th and then won their second game 6-4 over Garretson on Sunday, August 9th.
PBR 16, Colome 0
A big 13-run top of the second inning led PBR to a big win in five innings. They scored a run in the top of the first and then added the 13 runs in the second for a 14-0 lead. PBR added single runs in the top of the third and fourth innings as well.
Four pitchers combined to hold Colome to just two hits in the game. Brett Mogen pitched two of the five innings and recorded four strikeouts. Zach Puetz had the big bat on the day. Puetz recorded four hits, three doubles and a home run, with seven RBIs. Weston Hansen also had four hits, one a double, with two RBIs. Jake Brandenburg, Conner Spindler, and Riley Calhoon all had a two hits and an RBI each.
PBR 6, Garretson 4
Garretson opened the game with two runs right away in the top of the first inning, but their lead was short-lived. PBR responded with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead. Dell Rapids added another run in the bottom of the third to extend the advantage to 5-2. Garretson scored two more times in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4, but PBR added a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Drew Sweeter pitched eight innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Mogen pitched one inning and allowed a hit with two strikeouts. Hoffman finished with two hits and an RBI. Brayden Pankonen also had two hits. Hansen had a double with three RBIs. Brandenburg also had a hit with an RBI
