Dell Rapids PBR took the win over in-town opponent, the Dell Rapids Mudcats, at the annual “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” night during Quarry Days on Friday, June 26th.
PBR came out swinging with a six-run bottom of the first inning for a 6-0 lead. The Mudcats scored single runs in both the third and fourth innings to make the score 6-2. PBR got both of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth and then added another in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-2 advantage. PBR scored two more times in the bottom of the eighth to push the lead to 11-2. The Mudcats did rally for five runs in the top of the ninth to cut the deficit to 11-7, but the the gap was too much to overcome.
Austin Henry had two hits, including a home run, and an RBI for the Mudcats. Carter Gullickson also had a home run with an RBI. Conner Hansen added a double with two RBIs. Ty Hoglund and Treyse Eastman both had a double with one RBI. Kason Syverson, Nolan Burchill, and Gauge Bunkers all had one hit each.
PBR was led offensively by Riley Hoffman who had three hits, one a triple, and an RBI. Weston Hansen had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Jake Brandenburg added two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Drew Sweeter and Zach Puetz both had two singles with an RBI. Tad Tjaden had a single and an RBI. CJ Smith ended with a double. Chris Kropuenske had a hit. Connor Spindler and Riley Calhoon both had one RBI each. Brett Mogen pitched eight innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts.
