A seven-run first inning is all the Dell Rapids Mudcats needed in their 11-1 win over the Flandreau Cardinals in the opening round of the District 4B Tournament in Humboldt.
After the seven runs in the first inning, Dell Rapids added single runs in the second, third, fourth, and fifth inning to build an 11-0 lead. Flandreau scored a run in the top of the seventh, but the game ended on the 10-run rule after the Cardinals were done hitting.
Carter Gullickson had three hits and an RBI. Jake Goble had a home run and single with three RBIs. Austin Henry finished with two singles and an RBI. Ty Hoglund added a double and single. Josh Roemen had a double with two RBIs. Kason Syverson and Treyse Eastman each had an RBI.
Nolan Burchill pitched five innings and allowed two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Landon Ruesink tossed two innings and allowed an earned run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
