PBR Headed Back to State Tournament

Dell Rapids PBR is headed back to the state tournament.  They punched their ticket with a 7-1 win over the Canova Gang in the District 4B Tournament in Humboldt on Tuesday, July 28th.

The Gang scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning.  Weston Hansen tied the game in the bottom of the second with an RBI single.  Riley Calhoon put PBR in front moments later with an RBI single.  Brayden Pankonen followed with a two-run double to make the score 4-1.

The score remained 4-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning.  Drew Sweeter led off the inning for PBR with a solo home run to left field.  Riley Hoffman added an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, and Zach Puetz had an RBI single later in the inning.

Sweeter also had a strong game on the mound.  He pitched all nine innings and gave up just one earned run on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

Calhoon finished with four hits, two of them doubles, and an RBI.  Hansen and Puetz each had two singles with an RBI.  Pankonen had a double and two RBIs.  Sweeter added a home run and an RBI.  Hoffman ended with a double and an RBI.  Connor Spindler also had a hit.

PBR will face the Dell Rapids Mudcats in the District 4B championship game on Saturday, August 1st at 5:30 p.m. in Humboldt.  Regardless of the outcome, both teams will be in the state tournament.
