Tenth Inning Rally Gives Mudcats Win over Salem

The Dell Rapids Mudcats rallied for two runs in the top of the tenth inning to help them to a 4-2 win over the Salem Cubs in Salem on Monday, June 15th.

Neither team was able to score through the first three innings of the game.  Reece Arbogast broke the scoreless tie with an RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the fourth inning.  The score remained 1-0 until the top of the eighth.  Noah Nielson had an RBI single to put the Mudcats ahead 2-0.

Salem picked up a run in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 2-1.  With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Cubs drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game 2-2.  Nielson, however, came up big for the Mudcats in the tenth inning.  He had a two-run single to give Dell Rapids a 4-2 lead.  The Cubs were retired in order in the bottom of the tenth.

Nielson finished with two hits and three RBIs.  Kason Syverson had a double.  Ty Hoglund, Landon Ruesink, Jake Goble, and Nolan Burchill all had one hit each.  Arbogast had an RBI.  Burchill pitched five innings and allowed two hits with seven strikeouts.  Arbogast tossed three innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit with three strikeouts.  Goble pitched two innings and allowed an earned run on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
