Dell Rapids Baseball Notches Three More Wins

The Dell Rapids high school baseball team earned three more wins at home recently. They earned a big win over Baltic on Thursday, April 16th and then two wins over Howard on Sunday, April 19th.

Dell Rapids 15, Baltic 0

A big third inning was key in the three-inning win over Baltic on Thursday.  Dell Rapids scored two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the second for a 4-0 lead.  They exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the third to end the game on the 15-run rule.  Dell Rapids took advantage of three errors and 10 walks.

Gauge Bunkers had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Tommy LaVoy had a single and two RBIs.  Jackson Peppel added a triple and an RBI.  Lincoln LeBrun ended with a single and an RBI.  Drake Eastman, Connor Hanson, and Kenny Swanson all had one hit each.  Jake Heinitz had an RBI.  Bunkers pitched all three innings and allowed a hit and walk with four strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 12, Howard 2

Early runs led to the win over Howard in the first game of the double-header on Sunday.  Dell Rapids scored two times in the bottom of the first and four more in the bottom of the second for a 6-0 lead.  Howard scored two runs in the top of the third to make the score 6-2.  Dell Rapids would get a run in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth.  They had a four-run fifth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Peppel finished with two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Hanson had a single with two RBIs.  Swanson had a single and an RBI.  LeBrun and LaVoy each had a single.  Eastman ended with an RBI.  Ryan Stubbe pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  Bunkers pitched two innings walking one and striking out three.

Dell Rapids 10, Howard 0

Hanson and Eastman combined for a five-inning no-hitter in the second game.  Dell Rapids scored three times in the bottom of the first inning, two in the second, and three more in the third for an 8-0 lead.  They would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Hanson pitched three innings walking three batters and striking out seven.  Eastman tossed two innings and struck out five batters.  Eastman had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Heinitz had two singles and two RBIs.  Hanson added a double and an RBI.  Peppel ended with a single and an RBI.  Bunkers and Joe Trumbauer each had a hit.  Swanson and LeBrun both had an RBI.
