The Dell Rapids high school baseball team got back into the win column with a Mother’s Day win at home against McCook Central/Montrose, 11-3, on Sunday, May 10th.
Jackson Peppel got the scoring started by scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning. Kenny Swanson followed with an RBI single, and Gauge Bunkers added an RBI single later in the inning for a 3-0 lead. Jake Heinitz would score on a wild pitch and Tommy LaVoy and Peppel each scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 6-0.
McCook Central would get a run in the top of the third inning. They added two more in the top of the fourth to cut the Dell Rapids lead in half, 6-3. AJ Brandenburg had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Swanson added an RBI double, and Carson Maeschen had an RBI single to extend the lead back to six, 9-3. Drake Eastman had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the fifth, and Peppel scored again on a wild pitch for the final two runs of the game.
Bunkers finished with three singles and an RBI. Swanson had two hits, one a double, with two RBIs. Maeschen also had two hits with an RBI. Eastman and Brandenburg both had one hit and an RBI each. Connor Hanson also had a hit.
Eli Gullickson pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, all unearned, on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Joe Trumbauer pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed just one walk with three strikeouts.
