The Dell Rapids high school baseball team had their winning streak of 14 games snapped by West Central on Saturday, May 9th. West Central used a big fifth inning for an 11-6 victory.
West Central scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. They would add another run in the bottom of the fourth for a 2-0 lead. Dell Rapids seemed to pick up momentum in the fifth inning. Jackson Peppel had an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1. Tommy LaVoy would score on a wild pitch to tie the game 2-2. Kenny Swanson then blasted a three-run home run to left field to put Dell Rapids ahead 5-2. The lead was short-lived. West Central responded with nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to go in front 11-5. Jake Heinitz drove home the final run of the game in the top of the sixth.
Peppel had two doubles and an RBI. Swanson ended with the home run and three RBIs. Connor Hanson and Gauge Bunkers each had one hit. Heinitz finished with an RBI. Hanson pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits and five walks with two strikeouts. LaVoy pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed a hit and two walks. Charlie Bollock tossed an inning and gave up nine runs, seven earned, on six hits and a walk.
