Jack Henry had two attempts at the game-winning shot in the closing seconds against the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans.  His first shot was partially blocked, but he gathered the offense rebound and drove for the left-handed layup with :02.5 to play to give Dell Rapids (14-2) a 62-60 win over the Titans on Tuesday, February 7th.

Each team had leads of nearly 10 points at some point in the game, and both teams excelled in different aspects of the game.  The Titans held a 13-10 lead after the first quarter and built a seven-point lead in the second quarter.  Dell Rapids cut the lead back down to three points, 33-30, by halftime.

The Quarriers went on a run in the third quarter and led by nine points midway through.  The Titans rallied themselves and got the lead down to 51-46 going into the fourth quarter.  Dell Rapids maintained their lead throughout most of the quarter.  With 2:25 left in the game, Dell Rapids led 60-56 after one of two free throws by Rhett Kloth.  That was the last point until the final seconds.  Mt Vernon/Plankinton got the game tied with two free throws with :19.5 left on the clock, which was enough time to set up Henry’s game winner.

The Titans excelled in rebounding.  They had a 38-29 rebounding edge which also included 15 offensive rebounds leading to multiple second-chance points.  Dell Rapids had the advantage from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers were 13-20 from the charity stripe, while the Titans were 9-19.

Brayden Pankonen had 16 points, three rebounds, five assists, and four steals in the game.  Henry finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists.  Kloth added 11 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Camden Justice ended with eight points and two rebounds.  Tad Tjaden had six points, five rebounds, and three steals.
