Hamlin Rallies in Second Half Over Quarrier Girls

NewDRLogoThe Hamlin Chargers outscored the Dell Rapids Quarriers 35-23 in the second half to pull out a 52-48 win at the Entringer Classic in Colman on Friday, December 23rd.  Dell Rapids held the lead in the first quarter at 14-8.  The Quarriers then extended the lead to 25-17 by halftime.  The Chargers cut the Quarrier lead to two by the end of the third quarter at 37-35.

Dell Rapids shot 18-47 (38%) from the field, 3-12 (25%) from the three-point area, and 9-19 (47%) from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers had 26 team rebounds, 10 assists, 12 steals, but turned the ball over 13 times.  Hamlin finished the game shooting 19-46 (41%) from the field and had 30 team rebounds.

The Quarriers had three players finish in double figures.  Aspen Hansen finished with 13 points.  Arial Hoffman and Jayda Knuppe both had 12 points in the game.  Emma Paul led the team with five rebounds.  Knuppe and Hansen both had four rebounds.  Hoffman finished the game with five steals.

Dell Rapids (2-2) will play Hanson in the Parkston Classic on Friday, December 30th, at 3:00 p.m.

Colman-Egan Defense Leads to Win over Cardinal Girls

DRSM LogoThe Colman-Egan defense forced 22 turnovers and beat the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals 46-29 at the Entringer Classic in Colman on Friday, December 23rd.  The Hawks applied a full court pressure defense the entire game that lead to 16 steals.

Colman-Egan led 15-6 after the first quarter.  The Hawks added to the lead in the second quarter and led 23-13 at halftime.  It was the third quarter where the Hawks pulled away.  Colman-Egan outscored St Mary 19-5 in the third quarter to take a 42-18 lead.

The Cardinals finished the game shooting 10-37 (27%) from the field, 2-12 (17%) from three-point area, and 7-17 (41%) from the free-throw line.  St Mary finished with 35 team rebounds, five team assists, and four steals.

Jackie Wolles finished with nine points to lead the team.  Sydney Cook added eight points, and Ella Heinitz and Maddie Schwebach both finished with four points.  Cook finished with 10 rebounds.  Kennedi Mullaney had six rebounds, and Lexi Klein and Cassy Geraets both had five rebounds.

The Cardinals (2-4) will play Tiospa Zina at the Swiftel Classic in Brookings on Thursday, December 29th, at 1:45 p.m.

First Half Run Leads to Cardinal Boys Win

DRSM LogoThe Cardinals went on a 15-0 run in the first half and never looked back as the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals defeated the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars 58-42 on Thursday, December 22nd, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.

The Cougars held an 11-7 lead with less than a minute to go in the first quarter, but the Cardinals rallied to score seven points in that time and had a 14-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.  St Mary then scored the first eight points of the second quarter to extend their lead to 22-11.  The first half ended with the Cardinals leading 26-16.

McCook Central/Montrose went on a little run of their own to start the third quarter.  The Cougars cut the lead to three points in the first half of the third quarter at 29-26.  Over the final four minutes of the third quarter, the Cardinals outscored the Cougars 13-5 to push the lead to 42-31 at the quarter break.  St Mary then outscored McCook Central/Montrose 16-11 to close out the win.

St Mary finished the game shooting 22-47 (47%) from the field, 7-22 (32%) from three-point area, and 7-15 (47%) from the free-throw line.  The Cardinals also had a total of 34 rebounds, 11 assists, eight steals, and just 11 turnovers in the game.

Connor Libis led all scorers with 31 points in the game and also had five assists and five steals.  Luke Brown tallied 14 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.  Zach Geraets finished with seven points.

The Cardinals (2-3) will play Iroquois at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28th, at the Swiftel Classic in Brookings.  St Mary will then play Estelline at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31st, at the Entringer Classic in Brookings.

Quarrier Boys Win Second Game of Year

NewDRLogoPlaying in just their second game of the year, the Dell Rapids Quarriers defeated the Baltic Bulldogs 77-54 on Tuesday, December 20th, at Dell Rapids.  The Quarriers didn’t pull away until late in the second half in this win.  Dell Rapids led by just five points at the end of the first quarter at 23-18.  The lead was nine points at halftime at 41-32.  Both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter and the lead was still just nine points at 53-44 at the end of the third quarter.  However, Dell Rapids scored 22 points while holding Baltic to just 10 in the final quarter for the win.

Dell Rapids was led by Jeffrey Schuch with 25 points and 10 rebounds.  Sheldon Siemonsma finished the game with 14 points.  Tanner Heim also had a double-double in the game finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Carson Rentz had eight points, and Austin Ellingson had seven points.  Heim and Ellingson both had four assists in the game as well.

The Quarriers (2-0) will have another 11-day break until their next game.  They will play Sioux Valley in the Entringer Classic on Saturday, December 31st, at 4:15 p.m. in Brookings.

De Smet Pulls Away Late over Cardinal Boys

DRSM LogoThe De Smet Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter and earned a 59-46 win over the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Tuesday, December 20th, in De Smet.

The Bulldogs led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter, but the Cardinals took the lead in the second quarter and led 23-22 at halftime.  De Smet regained their lead in third quarter and led  39-35 at the quarter break. The Cardinals couldn’t close the gap as De Smet outscored St Mary 20-11 in the final quarter.

St Mary shot 15-54 (28%) in the game, 6-24 (25%) from three-point area, and 7-10 (70%) from the free-throw line.  The Cardinals had 29 total team rebounds, 10 assists, six steals and turned the ball over 16 times.  De Smet finished the game shooting 24-43 (56%) from the field and only missed nine shots in the second half.

Two players scored in double figures for St Mary.  Luke Brown finished with a team-high 16 points.  Jason Cook had 10 points.  Connor Libis added nine points.  Logan Gaspar and Brown both had seven rebounds.  Cook also had four assists.

The Cardinals (1-3) will host McCook Central/Montrose on Thursday, December 22nd.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Balanced Scoring Sends Quarrier Girls to Win

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers had nine different players score in a 70-35 win over the Baltic Bulldogs on Tuesday, December 20th, at Dell Rapids.  The Quarriers led 23-13 at the end of the first quarter.  Dell Rapids then held Baltic to just three second quarter points and took a 46-16 lead at halftime.  The lead was 59-30 at the end of the third quarter.

Aspen Hansen led Dell Rapids with 14 points.  Jayda Knuppe added 11 points.  Emma Paul finished with nine points, Arial Hoffman had eight points, and Kali Graham had seven points.  Kaylee Hennen, Graham, and Knuppe all unofficially had five rebounds in the game.  Baltic was led by Maddie Polzin with 15 points.

Dell Rapids improves to 2-1 after their second win in a row.  The Quarriers will play Hamlin in the Entringer Classic on Friday, December 23rd.  The game time is 5:00 p.m.

Cardinal Girls Fall in De Smet

DRSM LogoThe De Smet Bulldog defense held the Cardinal offense to just 12 points in the final three quarters on their way to a 62-24 win on Monday, December 19th, in De Smet.

The Bulldogs led by just three points at 15-12 at the end of the first quarter.  However, De Smet outscored St Mary 18-3 in the second quarter to take a 33-15 lead.  De Smet then extended the lead to 50-17 by the end of the third quarter.

St Mary shot 11-33 (33%) from the field, 0-3 from the three-point area, and 2-4 (50%) from the free throw line.  The Cardinals had 26 total rebounds, 10 steals, but turned the ball over 25 times.  The Bulldogs shot 23-53 (39%) from the field in the game.

Jackie Wolles led the team with seven points.  Ella Heinitz added six points.  Maddie Schwebach and Kennedi Mullaney both had four points.  Wolles, Mullaney, and Schwebach all had three rebounds in the game.

St Mary (2-3) will play Colman-Egan at the Entringer Classic in Colman on Friday, December 23rd, at 2:00 p.m.   The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Defense Key to Cardinal Boys First Win

drsmvsest_bbb_12-15-16The Cardinal defense shut down Estelline as the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals defeated the Estelline Redmen 54-34 on Thursday, December 15th, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  The two teams traded the lead eight times in the first half, but that’s when the Cardinal locked down on Estelline.

The Cardinals led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter and maintained their two-point lead heading into halftime at 26-24.  St Mary then out-scored Estelline 20-3 in the third quarter to take a 46-27 lead.  Estelline did not make a field goal in third quarter and only made one in the entire second half.  St Mary held the Redmen to one made three-pointer and seven made free-throws in the second half.

St Mary finished the night shooting 22-52 (42%) from the field, 3-21 (14%) from three-point area, and 7-11 (64%) from the free-throw line.  The Cardinals had 38 total team rebounds, six assists and 13 steals in the game.

Connor Libis led the team in scoring with 19 points and also had four steals.  Luke Brown had nine points and eight rebounds.  Zach Geraets and Austin Welbig both had six points.  Garret Frost had seven rebounds and Logan Gaspar pulled down six rebounds.

The Cardinals (1-2) will travel to De Smet on Tuesday, December 20th.

Cardinal Girls Win Back-to-Back Games

drsmvsest_gbb_12-15-16The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls have won their last two games to even their record at 2-2 on the season.  St Mary earned a victory over Ellsworth, MN on Tuesday, December 13th, and then defeated Estelline on Friday, December 15th.

The Cardinals defeated Ellsworth, MN 38-36 in double overtime.  Haley Michel led the way in scoring with 12 points on four made three-pointers.  Sydney Cook had eight points and six rebounds.  Kennedi Mullaney led the Cardinals in rebounding in the game with nine.  St Mary did have a 24-14 lead at halftime in the game.

St Mary was then able to hold off a fourth-quarter rally be Estelline for a 34-28 win.  The Cardinals led at every quarter break in the game.  St Mary was leading 12-8 at the end of the first quarter, 19-11 at halftime, and 26-17 at the end of the third quarter.  Estelline scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to make the score 26-23, and they were able to get within two points a couple of times in the quarter.  However, the Cardinals were able to hit enough big shots and free throws down the stretch for the win.  Cook finished the game with 12 points.  Jackie Wolles had 11 points, and Cassy Geraets added five points.

The Cardinals are scheduled to play Colman-Egan at the Entringer Classic in Colman on Saturday, December 17th, at 1:45 p.m.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Wrestling Splits at First Dak-12 Meet

QuarriersThe Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team won one dual and lost another in their first Dak-12 meet of the year on Tuesday, December 13th, in Tea.  The Quarriers fell to Lennox 45.00 – 33.00, but Dell Rapids defeated Tea Area 57.00 – 24.00.

Dell Rapids is scheduled to be at the Madison Tournament on Saturday, December 17th.
