West Central Girls Soccer Team Finishes Class A Portion of Regular Season

The West Central Trojan girls soccer team played their last two Class A teams on Thursday, September 16th and Tuesday, September 21st.  The Trojans remain undefeated after a win and a draw in those two matches.

On Thursday, September 16th, the Trojans traveled to Garretson and played the Blue Dragons.  West Central got a goal in each half for a 2-0 win.  The Trojans hosted the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers on Tuesday, September 21st.  The two teams played to a scoreless draw.

West Central finished with a 9-0-1 record against Class A teams.  They have not allowed a goal to a Class A team since a goal to Tea (8/17) to start the season and a goal to Vermillion (8/19).  The Trojans also have a win over Class AA Watertown (2-1 on 8/20).  West Central will finished their regular season against AA Sioux Falls O’Gorman on Tuesday, September 28th and Mitchell on Thursday, September 30th.

Mustang Volleyball Falls at Home to Canton

After three straight five-set match losses for Tri-Valley, the Mustangs were looking to get over that hump and into the win column at home on Tuesday, September 21st.  The Mustangs hosted the Canton C-Hawks in a Dak-12 Conference match, but Canton got the win in straight sets.  They won by scores of 25-12, 25-22, and 25-16.

Nevaeh Grann finished with eight set assists and six digs.  Hannah West had four digs and three ace serves.  Brookelyn Steiben had a total of seven set assists and two ace serves.  Erica Bicknase had a team-high three kills, while Hillary Hastings had two kills.  Megan Wenzel had seven blocks, and Ava Pearson had six.

Tri-Valley (0-9) will host Madison on Thursday, September 23rd.

West Central Boys Golf Team Finishes 2nd at Dak-12 Tournament

After four straight wins as a team, the West Central Trojan boys golf team finished second at the Dak-12 Conference Tournament.  The Trojans finished with a team score of 347 at the Madison Country Club on Tuesday, September 21st.   Vermillion won the team title with a score of 340.  Sioux Falls Christian was third at 358.

Trey Even tied for fourth in the tournament with a round of 83.  Peyton Bettcher tied for eighth with a round of 85.  Anthony Lanham placed 16th with a score of 88.  Kamden Zomer finished 22nd with a round of 91.  Cole Miles was 25th with a round of 93, and Connor Eisenbeisz finished with a 105.

The Trojans will play in a dual against Sioux Falls O’Gorman on Thursday, September 23rd before the Region 2A Tournament on Monday, September 27th.

10th Place Finish for Tri-Valley Boys Golf at Dak-12 Tourney

The Tri-Valley Mustang boys golf team had a 10th place finish at the Dak-12 Conference Tournament on Tuesday, September 21st in Madison.  The Mustangs finished with a team score of 393.  Vermillion won the team conference title with 340.  West Central was second (347), followed by Sioux Falls Christian (358).

Josh Leiseth tied for eighth place with a round of 85.  Mayson Rise finished with a round of 101.  Riley Carlson was one shot behind at 102.  Cole Focken finished with a 105.  Carson Sanders had a round of 108, and Lance DeWitt finished with a 115.

The Mustangs will play in the Region 1A Tournament on Monday, September 27th, also in Madison.

Quarrier Boys Golf Team Plays in Dak-12 Tournament

After a postponement of one day, the Dell Rapids Quarrier boys golf team played in the Dak-12 Tournament on Tuesday, September 21st, in Madison.  The tournament was originally scheduled for Monday, but weather forced a one-day delay.

Dell Rapids finished 11th with a total score of 469.  Vermillion won the conference team title with a score of 340.  West Central was second with 347, and Sioux Falls Christian placed third at 358.

Carter Traill had the low score for the Quarriers with a round of 103.  Oscar Anderson had a round of 114.  Ryder VanZee had a 122.  Nick Snyder finished  with a 130.  Tyler Tjaden and Gage Schultz both had a round of 135.

The Quarriers will play in the Region 1A Tournament in Madison on Monday, September 27th.

West Central Girls 2nd, Boys 4th at Alcester-Hudson Cross Country Invite

Both the West Central Trojan cross country teams finished in the top five at the Alcester-Hudson Cross Country Invite on Monday, September 20th.  Nine teams competed in both the girls and boys divisions at the Alcester Golf Course.

The girls team finished second with 28 points.  Vermillion won the girl’s title with six points.  Canton was third with 34 points.  The boys finished with 37 team points and finished fourth.  Beresford won the boy’s division with 17 points.  Dakota Valley was second with 19 points, and Vermillion placed third with 32 points.

Maelee Krempges had a sixth place finish individually with a time of 21:43.23.  Aubrey Borns was 10th in a time of 22:02.60.  Drew Caffrey placed 12th with a finish of 22:20.32.  Elizabeth Johnson was 14th with a time of 22:56.22, and Ellie McDonald placed 18th with a time of 23:13.87.

Ben Strunk finished in the top five with a fifth place finish at 17:27.24.  Jonathon Roth was 13th with a time of 18:27.06.  Griffin Stallman placed 23rd in 19:37.13.  Blake Stark was 29th at 20:16.83 just edging out Jacob Peterson at 20th place with a time of 20:16.94.

The Trojans will be in Dell Rapids for the Dell Rapids Invite on Wednesday, September 22nd.

Quarrier Volleyball Wins in Five at Baltic

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team won their third straight match after an exciting five-set win over the Baltic Bulldogs in Baltic on Monday, September 20th.

After an early 9-8 lead for the Quarriers in the opening set, Dell Rapids went on a bit of a run to open a lead they would not lose.  The Quarriers scored six straight for a 15-8 advantage.  Baltic got within four at 15-11, but that was as close as they would get as Dell Rapids took the first set 25-18.

Dell Rapids used the momentum from the first set to build a 9-4 lead to start the second set.  From that point the Bulldogs were only able to get within four again at 10-6.  The Quarriers cruised to a 25-12 win for a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was much closer throughout most of it.  Baltic, however, was able to take a slim lead to five points at 20-15 late in the set.  The Quarriers got on a run thanks to the serving of Riley Hill.  The Bulldogs struggled with the serve receive from Hill which allowed Dell Rapids to score six straight for a 21-20 lead.  Baltic was able to regroup to stop the rally and win the third set 25-23.

Baltic got on a roll in the fourth set.  After a 5-5 tie, the Bulldogs went on a 12-2 run for a 17-7 lead.  They finished the set with a 25-12 win to force the fifth and final set.  Dell Rapids struck first in the fifth set with five straight points for a 5-0 lead.  The Bulldogs responded with five straight points of their own for a 5-5 tie.  The set was tied again at 7-7.  Baltic took their only lead of the set at 8-7, but then Dell Rapids went on a 7-1 run for a 14-9 lead before winning 15-10.

Sophi Randall and JoJo Henry both finished with 15 kills in the match.  Kenzie Garry had seven.  Hill had a great match at the service line with 10 aces.  Randall added four ace serves.  Randall also had a team-high 13 blocks.  Lauryn Kloth had eight blocks.  Six different players finished in double figures in digs.  Garry had 16.  Randall had 13 digs, Hill finished with 12, and Henry had 11.  Lexi Ingalls and Emma Molskness both had 10 digs each.  Hill finished with a team-high 29 set assists, and Randall finished with 13.

Sami Polzin had 12 kills for Baltic followed by Elyssa Clark with 11.  Emma VanRegenmorter had eight kills along with four blocks.  Polzin also led the team with 13 digs.  Berklee Erickson had 10 digs, and Clark finished with nine.  Baily Teveldal had 17 set assists in the match, and Jacie Wendland had 15 assists.

Cardinal and Quarrier Bands March in Parker

Both the Dell Rapids St Mary and Dell Rapids High School marching bands participated in the Parker Marching Band Festival on Friday, September 17th.  The Cardinals were entered in Class B, and Dell Rapids was competing in Class AA.  Both schools also received awards.

St Mary took third place out of nine teams.  The color guard also received the “Outstanding Color Guard” for Class B.

The Quarriers finished second in Class AA.  Cara Rice received the “Best Drum Major” for the class.

Trojan Volleyball Finishes Second at Hamlin Tournament

The West Central Trojan volleyball team finished 3-1 and took home second place at the Hamlin Tournament held on Saturday, September 18th.  The Trojans played Hamlin, Florence-Henry, Sisseton, and Colman-Egan during the tournament.

West Central won in straight sets against the Hamlin Chargers by scores of 25-20 and 25-16.  Kaia Gabbert had three aces.  Aubree Miller had six kills and four blocks.  Hanna Lee finished with 18 set assists, and Camille Hohn had four digs in the match.

The Trojans then defeated Florence-Henry in straight sets.  They won by scores of 25-22 and 25-22.  Grace Harden had four ace serves and four kills.  Miller also had four kills along with two blocks.  Jazelle Jarding finished with four kills.  Lee had 17 set assists and two blocks, and Jocelyn Nilson had three digs.

West Central earned another straight set victory in the tournament when they defeated the Sisseton Redmen.  The set scores were 25-21 and 25-16.  Avery Nothdurft finished with two ace serves.  Nilson also had two ace serves and two digs.  Harden had three kills and two aces.  Lee added 12 more set assists to her total on the day.

In the championship match, the Trojans fell in straight sets to the Colman-Egan Hawks by scores of 22-25 and 18-25.  Harden had two aces.  Miller finished with seven kills.  McKenna Sichmeller had two blocks.  Lee had 22 more set assists, and Nilson had seven digs.

Tri-Valley Football Evens Record with Road Win

The Tri-Valley Mustang football team stopped a two-game skid and got back into the win column with an 18-0 shutout against the Chamberlain Cubs on the road on Friday, September 17th.  Tri-Valley was able to get at least three points in every quarter for the win.

The Mustangs first score of the game was a 73-yard touchdown run by Jaden Siemonsma.  The extra point was no good, and the score remained 6-0 in favor of Tri-Valley at the end of the quarter.  Tri-Valley added three more points in the second quarter on a 29-yard field goal by Reese Smith.  The Mustangs led 9-0 at halftime.

Smith added another field goal in the third quarter, this time from 22 yards away.  Tri-Valley led 12-0 heading into the final quarter.  Isaac McFarland got the final score of the game on an one-yard touchdown run.

Tri-Valley had a total of 252 yards of offense, 39 passing yards and 213 rushing yards.  The Mustang defense held Chamberlain to just 122 yards of offense, 15 rushing yards and 17 passing yards.

Eli McFarland was 2-5 passing for 39 yards.  Zach Powell had a catch for 37 yards.  Siemonsma had 15 carries for 136 yards and a touchdown.  I. McFarland finished with 14 carries for 42 yards.  I. McFarland also led the team with nine tackles, including a sack.  Tyson VanDerVliet had eight tackles and a sack.  Austin McNulty and Isaac Nehlich both had two sacks.  Connor Christensen and Caden Reuter also each had a sack in the game.  Lawson Loiseau had an interception, and McNulty had a fumble recovery.

The Mustangs (2-2) will travel to Sisseton on Friday, September 24th.
