Tri-Valley Drops Third Road Game

Playing in their third straight road game to start the season, Tri-Valley fell to Parkston/Ethan/Trip 13-5 on Monday, April 11th. P/E/T scored in every inning but the first in the win.

Tyler Groenewold drove home Riley Carlson for the first run of the game and the first run for Tri-Valley in the top of the second inning. P/E/T, however, scored three times in the bottom of the second and three more in the bottom of the third for a 6-1 lead. Tri-Valley cut the lad in half to 6-3 after Connor Christensen drove home two with a single in the top of the fourth inning. That was as close as Tri-Valley would get. P/E/T added a single run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and four more in the sixth. Tri-Valley had single runs in the top of the fifth and seventh innings.

Christensen had a single and two RBIs. Groenewold had a single and an RBI. Noah Haynes also had a hit in the game. Carter Sorenson had an RBI. Kaden Egger pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing seven runs, only two earned, on five hits and three walks. Sorenson pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing six runs, two earned, on no hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Carlson pitched an inning striking out one.

St Mary Girls and Boys Track Both Finish Sixth in Chester

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal track teams participated in the Chester Booster Invitational in Chester on Tuesday, April 12th. Both the girls and boys team finished sixth. The girls team finished with 52 points, and the boys team finished with 48 points.

Madala Hanson won the 1600m run. Ella Griffin placed fourth in the 100m dash, second in the 200m dash, eighth in the shot put, and sixth in the discus. Maya Heinitz was fourth in the 200m dash and fifth in the 400m dash. Addi Libis was seventh in the 200m dash and eighth in the 100m hurdles. Jaycee Tebay placed second in the discus and fourth in the javelin.

Lucas Flemmer placed third in the 100m dash, fourth in the 200m dash, second in the 400m dash, and eighth in the long jump. Nic Gaspar was third in the 300m hurdles, second in high jump, and sixth in the long jump. Owen Vargas was third in the 1600m run. Wyatt Geraets placed sixth in the triple jump. Gabe Lamb was eighth in shot put, discus, and javelin. Kyle Bares placed seven in the javelin.

Dells Baseball Wins Home Opener, Two of Three over Weekend

The Dell Rapids High School club baseball team won two of three games over the weekend of April 9th and 10th, including their home opener. Dell Rapids played two games in Sioux Falls on Saturday, April 9th, and then finally had their home opener on Sunday, April 10th.

Dell Rapids 5, Sioux Falls Jefferson 3

In the first game of the day on Saturday, Dell Rapids scored four runs early for a 4-0 lead and held on for a 5-3 victory over Sioux Falls Jefferson. Dell Rapids held Jefferson to just six hits in the game.

Aiden Boechler had two hits. Brayden Pankonen and Mason Stubbe both had a single and an RBI. Landon Ruesink, CJ Smith, and Dylan Mathis all had singles. Will Jaton had an RBI.

Jack Henry pitched four innings allowing one earned run on a hit with five walks and eight strikeouts. Pankonen pitched an inning allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit and two walks. Ruesink pitched the final two innings allowing an earned run on four hits while striking out two.

Sioux Falls Lincoln 6, Dell Rapids 4

Dell Rapids scored first in the game after Henry scored on an error in the top of the first inning. Lincoln scored in the bottom of the second inning on a single to center. Treyse Eastman reached on an error to start the third inning and then stole third. Stubbe had a sacrifice fly to score Eastman to give Dell Rapids a 2-1 lead. Mathis scored on a passed ball in the top of the fourth inning, and Pankonen scored on an RBI ground out by Ruesink to give Dell Rapids a 4-1 lead. Lincoln, however, scored three times in the bottom of the fourth inning and then two more in the bottom of the fifth for the win.

Pankonen had two hits. Jaton, Smith, Boechler, and Joe Rechtenbaugh all had singles. Ruesink and Stubbe each had an RBI. Eastman pitched four innings allowing four earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven. Pankonen pitched two innings giving up two earned runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 14, McCook Central 3

After having their home opening postponed two different times, Dell Rapids finally got their first home game of the season played on Sunday against McCook Central. Dell Rapids wasted no time in electrifying the home crowd. They scored 12 times in the bottom of the first inning and won 14-3 in five innings.

Henry had two hits and three RBIs. Mathis had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Boechler also had a double with two RBIs. Smith had a single and two RBIs. Ruesink and Braden Fersdahl both had a single and an RBI. Rechtenbaugh pitched three innings allowing an earned run on one hit with three walks and five strikeouts. Jaton pitched an inning allowing two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Sutton Williams also pitched an inning allowing two runs, both unearned, on one hit and had one strikeout.

Dell Rapids will host Baltic on Tuesday, April 12th.

Mustang Track Has First Meet of Season in Garretson

The Tri-Valley Mustang track team had their first meet of the season at the Jesse James Invite in Garretson on Saturday, April 9th.

For the girls team, Emry Jones had a fourth place finish in the 100m dash. Jones also placed eighth in the 100m hurdles. The 4x100m relay team of Jones, Danika Fluth, Hailey Sorenson, and Mattie Huwe placed eighth.

Michael Beyer had a second place finish in the 110m hurdles for the boys team. Matthew Cypher was seventh in the same event. The 4x100m relay team of Levi Kretzschmar, Aiden Bunde, Carter Sorenson, and Eli McFarland placed third. The 4x200m relay team of Sorenson, Dustin Sees, McFarland, and Beyer placed third. Sees placed third and McFarland placed seventh in the long jump.

Tri-Valley is scheduled to be at the Chester Area Booster Club track meet on Tuesday, April 12th, weather permitting.

St Mary Track Results from Garretson

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal track team traveled to Garretson for the Jesse James Invitational on Saturday, April 9th.

Ella Griffin placed sixth in the 100m dash.  Maya Heinitz was seventh in the 400m dash.  Lucy Vargas had a seventh place finish in the 3200m run.  The 4x200m relay team of E. Griffin, Heinitz, Addi Libis, and Brianna Griffin was fifth.  B. Griffin placed third in the high jump, and E. Griffin also had a seventh place finish in the discus.

Lucas Flemmer had a big day for the boys team.  Flemmer placed second in the 200m dash and 400m dash, fourth in the 100m dash, and sixth in the long jump. Nic Gaspar placed third in the 300m hurdles and fourth in the high jump.

The Cardinals will be in Chester on Tuesday, April 12th.

Quarrier Track Attends Meet in Garretson

After the originally scheduled track meet for the Dell Rapids Quarrier team was cancelled, Dell Rapids was able to find a replacement meet in Garretson on Saturday, April 9th.

Kylee Fiddelke placed fourth in 400m Dash.  Clara Justice had a sixth place finish in the 300m hurdles.  The 4x100m relay team of Madysen VanOverbeke, Merritt Kvigne, Hanna VanOverbeke, and Fiddelke placed third.  The 4x400m relay team of Kvigne, Riley Hill, Sophia Godwin, and Jenna Miller had a seventh place finish.  The 4x800m relay team of Adisen Stadem, Elizabeth Price, Peyton VanZee, and Madyn Lacey finished eighth.  Fiddelke also placed third in the high jump, while Rileigh Foster had a sixth place finish in the discus.

For the boys team, Jade Anstine had a second place finish in the 100m dash.  Josh Fletcher placed third in the 800m run.  Will Ronshaugen had an eighth place finish in the 300m hurdles. The 4x100m relay team of Ian Mason, Owen Nelson, Chase Jones, and Anstine placed second. The 4x400m relay team (O. Nelson, Evan Nelson, Grady Lamer, Camden Justice) placed fifth. The 4x800m relay team of John Mortrude, Fletcher, Weston Mason, and Atticus Miles also had a second place finish.  The 1600m sprint medley relay team (Ronshaugen, Braden Gruis, Lamer, and W. Mason) placed seventh.  Chase Jones was fifth in the triple jump, and Gunnar Chamley placed fourth in the discus.

The Quarriers are scheduled to be in Canton for the Canton Relays on Tuesday, April 12th.

West Central Baseball Wins Season Opener

The West Central Trojan baseball team won its season opener against the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers in Renner on Monday, April 4th.  West Central scored the first four runs of the game, scored in five of the seven innings, and only allowed one hit in an 11-3 victory.

The Trojans got a run in the of the first inning and held just a 1-0 lead through two innings of play.  West Central then got an RBI single from Andrew Zimmer, who later scored on an error, and an RBI single by Dominick Chandaswang to take a 4-0 lead.

The Chargers got two runs back in the bottom of the third inning on wild pitches, but West Central added two more runs in the top of the fourth.  Zimmer drove home two runs with a double, and the Trojans led 6-2.  Sioux Falls Christian got their final run in the bottom of the fifth on a hit batter after the bases were loaded with three straight walks.

Dalton Mulder had an RBI bases-loaded hit by pitch, and Camden McDonald had an RBI bases-loaded walk in the top of the fifth inning.  Grafton Stroup had an RBI ground out in the top of the sixth inning, and Zimmer brought home two more runs with his second double of the game.

Zimmer had three hits, including two doubles, and five RBIs in the game.  Stroup had three singles and an RBI.  Mulder had two hits and an RBI.  Duece Sherrard had two hits.  Chandaswang had a hit and an RBI.  Ben Sebert had a single, and McDonald finished with two RBIs.

Braden Herr pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing three earned runs on a hit with seven walks and recorded six strikeouts.  Brodie Herr pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing three walks and had six strikeouts.  Stroup pitched the final inning allowing three walks with a strikeout.

Cardinal Track Travels to Brookings

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal track team traveled to Brookings for the Scott Underwood Invitational on Monday, April 4th at South Dakota State University.

The girls team finished with 2 points.  Madala Hanson had an eighth place finish in both the 800m run and the 1600m run.

The boys team finished with 1.66 points.  Nic Gaspar tied for fifth in the high jump

St Mary will be at the Jesse James Invite in Garretson on Saturday, April 9th.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier track team competed in the Scott Underwood Invitational on Monday, April 4th at South Dakota State University in Brookings.

The girls team finished with 1.12 points with two top eight finishers.  Kylee Fiddelke finished eighth in the high jump, and the 4x400m relay team of Merritt Kvigne, Kennedy Krull, Jenna Miller, and Fiddelke finished eighth.

The boys team finished with 14 points.  Josh Fletcher had a second place finish in the 3200m run.  The 4x100m relay team of Ian Mason, Braden Fersdahl, Jade Anstine, and Even Nelson finished sixth.  Chase Jones placed seventh in the triple jump.  The 4x800m relay team of John Mortrude, Fletcher, Weston Mason, and Atticus Miles placed eighth.

Dell Rapids will be at the Vince Relays at Elkton on Saturday, April 9th.

Tri-Valley Baseball Drops Game to MVPCS

The Tri-Valley Mustang high school club baseball team dropped their second game of the season, 11-3, on Sunday, April 3rd at Mt Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney (MVPCS).

Tri-Valley got the early lead in the top of the first inning.  Carter Sorenson led the game with a single.  Sorenson later stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Cole Focken had an RBI sacrifice fly to score Sorenson.  MVPCS then scored five unanswered runs over the next three innings.  MVPCS scored two in the bottom of the first, one in the second, and two more in the third for a 5-1 lead.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Tri-Valley got another run in the top of the fifth.  Lawson Loiseau drew a one-out walk, and Sorenson followed with a double scoring Loiseau.  Tri-Valley led 5-2 after five innings, but MVPCS scored six times in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Tri-Valley got one more run in the top of the seventh.

Sorenson had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs.  Alex Wingen had a hit, and Focken had an RBI.  Kaden Egger pitched three innings allowing five runs, two earned, on three hits with four walks and a strikeout.  Riley Carlson pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing six runs, none of them earned, on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
