Quarrier Girls 3rd, Boys 5th at Terry Bong Track Invite

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls and boys track teams participated in the Terry Bong Invitational in Canton on Thursday, April 28th.  The girls team finished third with 100 points.  The boys team finished fifth with 81.5 points.

Several Quarriers took wins in their individual events.  Kylee Fiddelke placed first in the 400m dash.  The 4x400m relay team of Elly Olson, Kennedy Krull, Clara Justice, and Fiddelke placed first.  Rileigh Foster won the javelin.  Jade Anstine had a first place finish in the 200m dash.

Elizabeth Price placed second in the 800m run.  The 4x200m relay team of Madysen VanOverbeke, Sophia Godwin, Krull, and Fiddelke also had a second place finish.  Anstine took second in the 100m dash.  The boys 4x200m relay team of Ian Mason, Braden Fersdahl, Chase Jones, and Anstine also placed second.

Parkston Ends Dell Rapids Baseball’s Winning Streak

An early five-game winning streak for the Dell Rapids High School club baseball team was snapped on Wednesday, April 27th.  Parkston scored seven of their eight runs in two innings and held Dell Rapids to just four runs in an 8-4 win at Rickeman Field.

Dell Rapids grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI single by Dylan Mathis that scored courtesy runner Cole Ruesink.  The score remained 1-0 until the top of the third.  Parkston tied the game 1-1 after a run scored on a Dell Rapids error.

Aiden Boechler gave the lead back to Dell Rapids, 2-1, after a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the third inning.  Parkston’s first big inning was in the top of the fourth.  They scored three times in the inning on two hits, a walk, and an error.  Brayden Pankonen scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-3 in favor of Parkston.  The next big inning for Parkston came in the top of the fifth inning.  They scored four times, all with two outs, on four hits, a walk, and an error.  Boechler added another solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the final run of the game.

Boechler finished with three hits, two of them home runs, and two RBIs.  Mathis had a single and an RBI.  Landon Ruesink and Sutton Williams both had singles.  Ruesink took the loss pitching 4 2/3 innings allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.  Pankonen pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing three runs, none of them earned, on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Tri-Valley Baseball Can’t Hold Lead Against Lennox

The Tri-Valley High School club baseball team had two leads against Lennox, but couldn’t hold them as they fell to the Orioles 16-5 in six innings at home on Wednesday, April 27th.

Tri-Valley scored the game’s first two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Connor Christensen had an RBI single scoring Cole Focken, and then Barrett Althoff had an RBI single scoring Christeensen.  Tri-Valley led 2-0 after the first two innings.

Lennox scored for times in the top of the third for their first lead of the game.  Tri-Valley responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Focken reached on an error which scored Tyler Groenewold.   Riley Carlson added an RBI single scoring Focken, and Alex Wingen had an RBI double to give Tri-Valley the lead again.  Tri-Valley led 5-4 after three innings.

Lennox, however, scored in every inning the remainder of the game.  The Orioles scored two runs in the fourth, one more in the fifth, and then had a big nine-run sixth inning.  The game ended on the 10-run rule after six innings of play.

West Central Baseball Back in Win Column

The West Central High School club baseball team got back into the win column and ended a short two-game losing streak with an 8-5 win over McCook Central on Wednesday, April 27th.  West Central scored six of their right runs in the first two innings and held the lead for the win to improve to 3-2 on the year.

Grafton Stroup drove home the first run for West Central in the top of the first inning on an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.  McCook Central tied the game, 1-1, after scoring a run in the bottom of the first.  West Central’s offense scored five times in the top of the second.  Logan Maras started the inning with a single and scored two batters later on an RBI groundout by Ben Sebert.  Braden Herr scored on an error to push the lead to 3-1.  Gavin Koch scored on a passed ball, and then Andrew Zimmer had an RBI single.  Dalton Mulder followed with an RBI single, and West Central led 6-1.  McCook Central only got one run back in their half of the inning, and West Central led 6-2 after two innings of play.

Zach Madsen pushed the lead back to five runs after an RBI line drive single scoring Duece Sherrard.  McCook Central, however, cut the lead down to two runs after a three-run bottom of the fifth inning.  The score remained 7-5 until the top of the seventh inning.  Madsen had an RBI groundout scoring Koch for a big insurance run for West Central.

Sherrard had three hits in the game.  Zimmer, Mulder, and Koch all had two singles and an RBI each.  Madsen had a hit and two RBIs.  Stroup and Sebert each had a single and RBI.  Maras finished with a hit as well.  Zimmer pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits and five walks with two strikeouts.  Stroup pitched the final 2 1/3 innings without allowing a hit with two walks and three strikeouts.

Tri-Valley Track Competes at Tea Invite

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls and boys track teams were back in action on Tuesday, April 26th.  The time the Mustangs were in Tea for the Tea Area Invite.

Brie Peters (800m run and javelin) and Emry Jones (100m hurdles) had fourth place finishes.  The 4x200m relay team of Jones, Hailey Mcnamara, Paige Jewett, and Ella Richardson also placed fourth.  The 4x100m relay team of Jones, Maddie Wenzel, Jewett, and Richardson had a fifth place finish.  Jewett also placed seventh in the 100m dash, and Lauren Grinde was seventh in the javelin.

Connor Christen got another win in the shot put event.  Michael Beyer placed first in the 300m hurdles.  Eli McFarland was second in the 200m dash.  Beyer was also second in the 100m hurdles.  The 4x400m relay team of Isaac McFarland, Carter Sorenson, Noah Haynes, and Beyer was second.  The 4x100m relay team of E. McFarland, Levi Langloss, Sorenson, and Beyer had a third place finish.  The 4x200m relay team of Austin McNulty, Cory McDonald, I. McFarland, and Langloss placed fourth.  Sorenson also had a fourth place finish in the 300m hurdles.

West Central Track Competes in Tea

The West Central Trojan girls and boys track team traveled to Tea for the Tea Area Invite on Tuesday, April 26th.

Molli Thornton came home with a first place finish in the 100m dash.  Lily Sidel also placed first in the long jump.  The 4x100m relay team (Emma Goehring, Thornton, Rylee Haldeman, Sidel) and the 4x200m relay team (Goehring, Meissa Anderson, Sidel, Thornton) both had second place finishes.  The sprint medley relay team of Goehring, Sidel, Baylee Poss, and Jazelle Jarding placed third. 

Layton Johnson won the 100m dash.  Dylan Stromer was second in the high jump, and Gunnar Cuka was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.  The sprint medley relay team of Braden Dierickx, Tommy Berg, Johnson, and Jude Jarding had a second place finish.  Liam Schmeichel (high jump), Wyatt Nielsen (400m dash), and Jesse Jost (200m dash) all had third place finishes.  The 4x200m relay team (Jost, Ben Vuong, Berg, Dierickx) and 4x400m relay team (Nielsen, Aiden Bartmann, Jarding, Johnson) both placed third as well.

Trojan Girls Golf 8th in First Tournament of Season

The West Central Trojan girls golf team placed eighth in their first full tournament of the season on April 26th.  The Trojans played in the Dakota Valley Invite at Two Rivers Golf Club.

Lyric Riepma finished the day with a round of 100, good for 19th place.  Morgyn Driscoll and Kaylee Olson both finished with a 108.  Dakotah Larson was one shot behind with a round of 109.  Lauren Prchal finished with a 115.

West Central is scheduled to host a triangular with Beresford and Lennox on Thursday, April 28th.

Mustang Girls Golf Team Has First Tournament of Season

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls golf team played in their first tournament of the season on Tuesday, April 26th.  The Mustangs traveled to Two Rivers Golf Club for the Dakota Valley Invite.  Tri-Valley finished 12th in the team standings.

Stephanie Buchman had the low round for the Mustangs with a 105.  Peyton Oberg had a 120.  Ivy Haug finished with a round of 127, and Hillary Hastings had a round of 131.

Tri-Valley will be in action again on Tuesday, May 3rd at Rocky Run Golf Course for the Dell Rapids Invite.

Quarrier Girls Golf 7th at Dakota Valley Invite

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls finished seventh out of 12 teams at the Dakota Valley Invite held at Two Rivers Golf Club on Tuesday, April 26th.  Sioux Falls Christian placed first, followed by Vermillion and then Canton.

Abby Greenhoff placed 11th individually with a round of 96.  Jayme Schmidt was 16th after a round of 97.  Natalie Berg had a round of 111.  Emma Taubert finished with a round of 115.

The Quarriers will host the Dell Rapids Invite on Tuesday, May 3rd.

Rocky Run Hosts St Mary Golf Invite

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal golf teams held their St Mary Golf Invite at Rocky Run Golf Course on Tuesday, April 26th.  The girls team finished with a team score of 361 for seventh place.  The boys team finished with a score of 313 for 11th place.

Rachel Heinemann had a round of 114.  Rebecca Heinemann finished with 115, and Brianna Weiland had a round of 132 for the girls team.  Carley Roiger, Rylee Klein, and Sophia Lack golfed nine holes as extra golfers for the Cardinals.  Roiger had an 80, Lack an 81, and Klein a round of 90.

Noah Olund had the low round for the boys team.  Olund finished with a 91.  Brandon Cook had a 109 on the day.  Levi Gaul finished with 113, and Aiden Allen had a 125.
