Madison Uses Big Inning for Win over Tri-Valley 16U

The Tri-Valley 16U baseball team trailed by just two runs after four innings of play, but Madison scored eight times in the bottom of the fifth for a 13-3 win on Thursday, June 9th in Madison.

Madison scored two runs in the bottom of the third to break a scoreless tie.  Tri-Valley took the lead in the top of the fourth with three runs.  Alex Wingen scored the first run on an error by the catcher.  Benjamin Myhre drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, and Mayson Rise had an RBI single to give Tri-Valley a 3-2 lead.  Madison got the lead back in the bottom of the fourth with three runs.  Then they scored the eight runs in the fifth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Rise had two hits and an RBI.  Myhre had a hit and an RBI.  Hunter Foster finished with two hits, and Carter Sorenson had a hit.  Sorenson pitched three innings allowing four earned runs on three hits and six walks with seven strikeouts.  Rise gave up five earned runs on three hits and three walks.  Cyrus Kirstein pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing four earned runs on a hit and two walks with three strikeouts.  Levi Kretzschmar pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing a hit and two walks.

Dell Rapids 14U Teams Split in League Games

Both Dell Rapids Navy 14U and Dell Rapids Red 14U had I-29 League games on Tuesday, June 7th.  Dell Rapids Navy traveled to Tea, and Dell Rapids Red hosted Volga.

Dell Rapids Navy earned a 17-5 win over Tea-P.  Both teams scored four runs in the first inning and another run in the second inning for a 5-5 tie.  Dell Rapids then scored 12 unanswered runs in the next three innings for the win.  Eight different players collected a hit and seven of then had at least one RBI.

Dell Rapids Red gave up nine runs in the top of the first inning, but hung tough the rest of the game in an 11-0 loss at home.  Volga got a run each in the third and fourth innings.  Dell Rapids Red put a threat together in the fifth inning with three walks, a hit batter, and a single, but a caught stealing during the inning kept them off the board.

Mudcats Drop Last Two Games

The Dell Rapids Mudcats have dropped their last two Cornbelt League games.  They fell to Lennox 5-1 on Thursday, June 2nd.  They also lost a 5-2 game to the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks on Tuesday, June 7th.  Their game on Sunday, June 5th against Madison was suspended in the third inning due to rain.

Lennox 5, Dell Rapids Mudcats 1

The Mudcats and Lennox were locked in a close battle for seven innings.  Lennox scored in the first inning for an early 1-0 lead.  Dell Rapids tied the game in the second when Jimmy Bauer scored.  The game remained tied 1-1 until the seventh inning.  Lennox scored four times in the inning to take the 5-1 win.

Trevor Freudenthal had a double.  Logan Stone had two hits as well.  Mark Abrahamson took the loss for the Mudcats on the mound.

Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks 5, Dell Rapids Mudcats 2

The Gamecocks got out to an early 2-0 lead after the first three innings on Tuesday.  The Mudcats got one run in the top of the fifth inning.  John Spaeth had an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  The Gamecocks got two runs, however, in the bottom of the inning for a 4-1 lead.  They added another run in the bottom of the seventh.  Spaeth added another RBI in the top of the ninth on a fielder’s choice ground out.

Elijah Story had two hits, including a double, and scored both runs . Spaeth had a hit and two RBIs.  Landon Ruesink, Freudenthal, and Stone all had a single.  Kris Regas pitched all eight innings giving up five runs, three earned, on eight hits and three walks, but recorded 17 strikeouts.

Gamecocks Avenge Earlier Loss to Mudcats

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks avenged an earlier season loss against the Dell Rapids Mudcats on Tuesday, June 7th.  The Gamecooks held the lead from start to finish in a 5-2 home win.  The Mudcats had defeated the Gamecocks 7-2 on Thursday, May 19th.

This time the Gamecocks scored right away in the bottom of the first for an early lead.  Broc Haldeman had an RBI double for the early 1-0 advantage.  They added to the lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Joe Hanisch.

The Mudcats got a run in the top of the fifth to make it a 2-1 game, but the Gamecocks scored two runs in the bottom of the inning.  Hanisch drove home Drew Maras and Cam Quigley.  Devon Garry extended the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double. The Mudcats got one run in the top of the ninth.

Hanisch had a hit and three RBIs.  Garry and Haldeman both had a double and an RBI.  Maras finished with a double.  Quigley, Kyle Bailey, Brandon McKnight, and Chad Morrison all had hits as well.  Cole Barthel pitched five innings allowing one earned run on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts.  Maras pitched two innings allowing just one hit with one strikeout.  McKnight also pitched two innings and allowed an earned run on a hit and walk with two strikeouts.

West Central Blue 14U Wins Fifth Straight

West Central Blue 14U won their fifth straight game to start their season on Tuesday, June 7th.  West Central defeated Baltic 13-7 in Baltic.

West Central used three big innings for their win.  They scored five times right away in the top of the first inning.  Anthony Lanham had an RBI ground out for the first run.  Hayes Cain scored on a wild pitch.  Dylen Bettcher and Zach Lorang both had an RBI singles.  Z. Lorang later scored on an error in the big first inning.  Baltic scored a run in the bottom of first inning to make the score 5-1.

Both teams scored a run in the second inning.  Lanham had another RBI ground out in the top of the inning.  Baltic scored their run on an error.  Baltic then cut the lead to 6-4 with two runs in the bottom of the third.

West Central took control again with four runs in the top of the fourth.  Jack Sebert reached on an error which scored Cain.  Ashton Gebbhard had an RBI infield single, Z. Lorang scored on a wild pitch, and Nick Lorang had an RBI single to push the West Central lead to 10-4.  Baltic scored three times in the bottom of the sixth, but West Central put the game away with three more runs in the top of the seventh.  Gavin Dehaven had an RBI ground out, Alex Siemonsma scored on a passed ball, and Sebert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Cain finished with three hits in the game.  N. Lorang had two hits and two RBIs.  Z. Lorang had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Gebhard also had two hits and an RBI.  Lanham finished with a single and two RBIs.  Sebert and Bettcher had a hit and an RBI.  Siemonsma had a hit, and Dehaven had an RBI.  Siemonsma pitched two innings and allowed four earned runs on three hits and four walks.  Sebert pitched two innings giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Gebhard pitched three innings and allowed just one hit with four strikeouts.

Madison’s Big Fifth Inning Key in Win over Tri-Valley Maroon 14U

Madison Black 14U scored six times in the top of the fifth inning, which proved to be the difference in a 10-4 win over Tri-Valley Maroon on Tuesday, June 7th.

Madison scored two times in the top of the second inning for an early 2-0 lead.  Tri-Valley had a big inning of their own in the bottom of the fourth.  Tristen Bunde had an RBI ground ball and reached on an error.  Treyson Richter also scored on the error to tie the game 2-2.  Gage Egger followed with an RBI single.  Parker Atwood had an RBI ground out later in the inning, and Tri-Valley led 4-2 after the fourth inning.

Madison, however, scored six times in the top of the fifth, all with two outs.  The runs came on just two hits, but also four walks, a hit batter, and an error.  Madison would also score a single run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.

Egger had a hit and an RBI.  Richter had two hits, including a double.  Denton Bicknase finished with a single.  Bunde had two RBIs in the game, and Atwood had one RBI.  Cole Hendrixson pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing two runs, neither of them earned, on a hit and walk with four strikeouts.  Bunde pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed six runs, all earned, on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Jackson Williams allowed two unearned runs on two walks.

West Central Gold 14U Defeats Tri-Valley White 14U

The West Central Gold and Tri-Valley White 14U teams did battle in Humboldt on Tuesday, June 7th.  West Central Gold broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth and won the game 12-2.

West Central scored a run in the bottom of the first.  Lando Whiting had an RBI ground out for an early 1-0 lead.  Tri-Valley tied the game in the top of the third.  Brady Jewett had an RBI single to make it a 1-1 game.

The scoring then took off for West Central in the bottom of the fourth.  Jacob Mallinger had an RBI single, Braxton Huber added an RBI ground out, and L. Whiting stole home for a 4-1 West Central lead.  Sullivan Snethen stole home for Tri-Valley in the top of the fifth to cut the lead in half, 4-2, but West Central scored the next eight runs of the game.

Chase Nelson had an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.  West Central then scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth, six of those coming with two outs.  Jericho Klein scored after a fly-out to right double play.  L. Whiting scored on a wild pitch, Nelson scored on an error, JT Steckley, Klein, Bubba Kono, and CJ DenBoer all had bases-loaded walks for RBIs.

For Tri-Valley Jewett had a hit and an RBI.  Austin Puetz had two hits, including a double.  Noah Eggert also had a single.  Snethen pitched three innings allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks.  Luke Strom pitched two innings allowing three earned runs on three hits and three walks with one strikeout.  Landon McGill pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up six runs on two hits and five walks.  Cooper Nielson allowed an earned run on four walks.

West Central was led by Klein and Mallinger with two hits and an RBI each.  L. Whiting and Nelson had a hit and an RBI.  Connor Mebius and Hayden Whiting each had a hit.  DenBoer had two RBIs.  Kono, Huber, and Steckley each had an RBI.  Klein pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on a hit and five walks with seven strikeouts.  Kono pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up just one hit while striking out one.

West Central 16U Drops Doubleheader Against Volga

West Central 16U dropped both games of a doubleheader against Volga on Monday, June 6th.  VOlga took the first game 7-6 and then won the second game 16-4.

Game 1: Volga 7, West Central 6

Volga scored six of their seven runs in the final three innings to take the opening game 7-6.

West Central took the early lead with three runs in the top of the first. Keaton Vessells had a two-run single, and Cain Grocott had an RBI single.  Volga scored one in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 3-1.  The score remained 3-1 until the top of the fifth.  Brodie Herr had an RBI single. Cade Vanderwoude had an RBI sacrifice fly, and Will Nester had an RBI single to give West Central a 6-1 lead.  Volga, however, scored four times without a hit in the bottom of the fifth.  They tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth, and then got the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a passed ball.

Herr had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Nester and Grocott also had two hits each with an RBI.  Vessells had one hit and two RBIs.  Jesse Jost finished with two singles.  Jonathan Murray also had a hit, and Vanderwoude had an RBI.

Vanderwoude pitched two innings and allowed an earned run on two his with a walk and three strikeouts.  Grocott pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits and three walks with a strikeout.   Landen Holewa pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four runs on six walks and two strikeouts.  Herr pitched 1/3 of an inning getting a strikeout.

Game 2:  Volga 16, West Central 4

Volga scored in every inning but the fifth, which included a seven-run fourth inning.  West Central got single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings for their four runs.

Jost had three hits and an RBI.  Vessells finished with two hits.  Vanderwoude had a double.  Carter Evans had a single and an RBI.  Rayce Whiting, Nester, and Grocott each had a single.  Herr finished with an RBI.  Nester pitched two innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  Vessells threw one inning and allowed five earned runs on six walks and three strikeouts.  Jost also pitched an inning giving up seven earned runs on three hits and seven walks with one strikeout.   Herr pitched one inning recording two walks and three strikeouts.

Early Lead Lifts Tri-Valley 16U Baseball to Victory

The Tri-Valley 16U baseball team won their first game of the year on Monday, June 6th over Tea at home.  Tri-Valley scored 10 runs in the first three innings on their way to an 11-2 victory.

Tri-Valley put together a five-run bottom of the first inning.  Holden Rise,  Levi Kretzschmar, and Hunter Foster all had RBI singles.  Kretzschmar and Foster both scored on wild pitches.  After Tea scored a run in the second, Tri-Valley put four more runs on the board.  Everett Althoff and Kretzschmar had RBI singles.  Cyrus Kirstein brought home two runs with a single.

Altohff added an RBI single in the bottom of the third for a 10-1 lead.  Tea’s second run came in the top of the fifth inning.  Kirstein drove home the final run for Tri-Valley with a single in the bottom of the sixth.

Kirstein had two hits and three RBIs.  Althoff and Kretzschmar both had two hits and two RBIs.  Rise finished with two singles and an RBI.  Foster had a hit and an RBI.  Alex Wingen had three hits, including a double.  Benjamin Myhre also had a hit. Wingen pitched four innings allowing two runs, one earned, on a hit and three walks with eight strikeouts.  Althoff pitched three innings giving up four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 16U Holds off Baltic

Dell Rapids 16U held off Baltic in a back-and-forth game on Monday, June 6th.  It was the first game of the I-29 League season for Dell Rapids.

Lincoln Fersdahl opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single.  Baltic scored three times in their half of the first on three hits.  Baltic extended the lead to 4-1 after an RBI ground out in the bottom of the second inning.

Dell Rapids pulled within a run after a two-run top of the third.  Fersdahl brought home Tad Tjaden for the second time in the game on an RBI sacrifice fly.  Luke Schoolmeester followed with an RBI single.  Dell Rapids then took the lead in the top of the fifth with four runs.  Sutton Williams scored on a wild pitch, Schoolmeester had an RBI single, Frost had an RBI single, and Cole Ruesink scored on an error for a 7-4 lead.

Baltic added a run in the bottom of the fifth.  Both teams scored in the sixth inning.  Fersdahl drove home his third run with a single.  Ruesink also had an RBI single giving Dell Rapids a 9-5 lead.  Baltic also scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 9-7.  Baltic put together a two-our rally in the bottom of the seventh getting one run, but Dell Rapids was able to stop the rally for the win.

Fersdahl finished with three hits and three RBIs.  Schoolmeester had two hits and two RBIs.  Ruesink had two singles and an RBI.  Frost had a single and an RBI.  Tjaden, Williams, Quinn Carr, and Talan Millage all had a hit.  Ruesink pitched three innings allowing four earned runs on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  Konrad Richeal pitched four innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
