Dakota Valley Gets Win over Dell Rapids Legion

A three-run first inning by Dakota Valley proved to the difference in a 5-2 win over Dell Rapids on Wednesday, June 15th at North Sioux City.

Dell Rapids scored first in the top of the first inning.  Dylan Mathis had an RBI single for an early 1-0 lead.  Dakota Valley posted a three-run first inning and led 3-1 after one inning of play.  The score remained 3-1 until the top of the fifth.  Mason Stubbe scored on a balk to cut the lead to 3-2, but Dakota Valley scored two times in the bottom of the fifth in the win.

Dell Rapids only had two hits in the game.  Mathis had an RBI single, and Joe Rechtenbaugh had a single.  Rechtenbaugh pitched six innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits and five walks with five strikeouts.

Seventh Inning Rally Gives West Central Blue 14U Win

West Central Blue 14U broke a 5-5 tie with six runs in the top of the seventh to earn an 11-5 victory over Elkton on Wednesday, June 15th.

Dylan Bettcher drove home the first run for West Central in the top of the first on an RBI ground out.  Elkton scored twice in their half of the first for a 2-1 lead.  West Central scored the next four runs, scoring two times in the fourth and fifth innings.  Nick Lorang had a two run single, and Hayes Cain and Zach Lorang both scored on errors.  Elkton scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 5-5.

West Central then had their big inning in the seventh.  Z. Lorang had an RBI ground ball, Bettcher scored on a pick-off attempt at third, Alex Siemonsma scored on a wild pitch, Z. Lorang scored on a wild pitch, Gavin Dehaven scored on an error, and N. Lorang stole home.

Z. Lorang had three hits, including a double, and an RBI.  N. Lorang had a single and two RBIs.  Siemonsma, Dehaven, and Taten VanOverbeke all had singles.  Bettcher finished with an RBI..  Siemonsma pitched four innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Ashton Gebhard pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing three unearned runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Early Lead Gives Dell Rapids Navy 14U Win

Dell Rapids Navy 14U scored nine times in the first two innings while collecting 10 hits in a 10-2 win over Flandreau on Wednesday, June 15th at Volunteer Field in Dell Rapids.

Logan Donovan got the scoring started for Dell Rapids in the bottom of the first with an RBI single.  Carson Maeschen and Tollin Peterson followed with RBI singles to give Dell Rapids a 3-0 lead.  They would score six more times in the bottom of the second inning.  Maeschen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Peterson and Noah Larson had RBI doubles, Jack Paterson walked with the bases loaded, and Thomas Lavoy had an RBI ground out to push the lead to 9-0.

Flandreau was able to get one run in the top of the third inning and another in the top of the fourth inning.  Dell Rapids scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI triple by Peterson.

Peterson had three hits, a single, double and triple, along with four RBIs.  Kenny Swanson had two hits.  Larson had a double and an RBI.  Maeschen finished with a hit and two RBIs.  Lavoy and Donovan both had a single and an RBI.  Jake Heinitz finished with a single, and Paterson had an RBI.

Donovan earned the win on the mound.  He pitched six innings while allowing two runs, one earned, on four walks while striking out 12 batters.  Swanson pitched the final inning and allowed two walks.

Sioux Falls Post 15 Takes Two from Dell Rapids Legion

Sioux Falls Post 15 won both games of a double-header with Dell Rapids Legion in Dell Rapids on Tuesday, June 14th.  They won the first one 7-6 and the second game 11-7.

Sioux Falls 7, Dell Rapids 6

Post 15 scored three runs right away in the top of the first of the first game.  Dell Rapids tied the game with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second.   Treyse Eastman hit an RBI sacrifice fly, and Braden Fersdahl drove home two with a single to center field.

Sioux Falls took the lead again in the top of the third with a run, but Dell Rapids again tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.  CJ Smith had an RBI sacrifice bunt to score Aiden Boechler.  Sioux Falls took a two-run lead, 6-4, after single runs in the top of the fifth and sixth inning.

Dell Rapids, one more time, tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the  sixth.  Will Jaton had an RBI double, and Eastman had an RBI ground out to make it a 6-6 ball game.  Sioux Falls got the game-winning run in the top of the seventh on an RBI, one-out double.

Boechler had three hits in the game.  Fersdahl had a hit and two RBIs.  Jaton had a double and an RBI.  Brayden Pankonen finished with a single.  Eastman had two RBIs, and Smith had an RBI.  Jaton pitched  6 1/3 innings allowing seven runs, six earned, on 11 hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  Pankonen pitched 2/3 of an inning with two walks and a strikeout.

Sioux Falls 11, Dell Rapids 7

Sioux Falls Post 15 had an eight-run third inning to propel them to an 11-7 win in the second game.

Dell Rapids took an early run with four runs in the bottom of the second.  Boechler had an RBI ground ball.  Pankonen had a two-run single, and Austin Harvey scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead.  Sioux Falls, however, took the lead for good in the game with their eight-run third inning.

Joe Rechtenbaugh had an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning.  Jack Henry added an RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 8-6.  Sioux Falls then got two runs in the top of the fifth.  Boechler scored on a passed ball for Dell Rapids in the bottom of the fifth.  Sioux Falls got another run in the top of the seventh.

Landon Ruesink had two hits.  Pankonen had a hit and two RBIs.  Henry had a triple and an RBI.  Boechler had a triple.  Evan Nelson had a single.  Rechtenbaugh finished with an RBI.  Fersdahl pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on six walks and a strikeout.  Smith gave up four earned runs on a hit and two walks.  Dylan Mathis threw four innings allowing three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.  Nelson also pitched an inning and allowed two runs, one earned, on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

Humboldt/Hartford Legion Takes Two from Garretson

Humboldt/Hartford legion won two games against Garretson on Tuesday, June 14th.  They took the first game 4-3 and the second game 9-7.

Humboldt/Hartford 4, Garretson 3

Garretson scored a run in the bottom of the first inning for an early lead.  Humboldt/Hartford scored all four of their runs in the second inning, and all with two outs.  Gage Nelson and Deuce Sherard both had two-run doubles in the inning for a 4-1 lead.  Garretson added two runs in the bottom of the second.  Neither team scored again in the game.

Nelson and Sherard both had a double and two RBIs.  Jack Linneman had two hits.  Gavin Koch also had a single.  Andrew Zimmer pitched six innings allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Humboldt/Hartford 9, Garretson 7

Humboldt/Hartford broke a 6-6 tie with a three-run fifth inning and took a 9-7 win in the second game.

Linneman had an RBI fielder’s choice ground ball for the first run in the top of the first.  Bennett Sebert scored on a wild pitch, and Camden McDonald reached on an error that scored Linneman, and Humboldt/Hartford led 3-0.  Sebert added an RBI single in the top of the second inning for a 4-0 advantage. 

Garretson scored three times in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 4-3.  Koch scored on a steal of home, and Derek Renken had an RBI double to push the Humboldt/Hartford lead to 6-3.  Garretson had another three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game 6-6.

Seth Gabbert hit an RBI single to center field to break the tie.  Adam Parsons also had an RBI single, and Koch followed with an RBI single to give Humboldt/Hartford a 9-6 lead.  Garretson scored one run in the bottom of the sixth.

Sebert had three hits and an RBI.  Koch had two hits and an RBI.  Renken had a double and an RBI.  Parsons and Gabbert both had a single and an RBI.  Zimmer and Domo Chandaswang each collected a hit.  Linneman had an RBI.  Koch pitched three innings allowing an earned run on two hits an a walk.  Chandaswang pitched two innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Dakota Valley Wins Big over Colton Legion

Dakota Valley scored early and often in a 16-2 win over Colton Legion on Tuesday, June 14th in Colton.

Dakota Valley scored five times in the top of the first and four more in the second for a 9-0 lead.  They added two more runs in the third, two in the fourth, and three more in the fifth for a 16-0 advantage.  Colton did get two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Joshua Lieseth scored on a wild pitch, and Zach Powell had an RBI double.

Powell had a double and an RBI.  Riley Carlson, Lieseth, and Kaden Egger all had singles.  Cole Focken pitched two innings and allowed nine runs, three earned, on eight hits and two walks.  Noah Haynes pitched two innings allowing four runs, two earned, on seven hits and a walk.  Connor Christensen pitched one inning and gave up three unearned runs on two hits and two walks.

West Central 16U Cruises to Win over Parker

West Central scored 10 unanswered runs and cruised to a 10-1 over Parker at home on Tuesday, June 14th.

Parker got an early run on a double in the top of the first, but that was it for them offensively.  They would not get another hit in the game.  West Central took the lead in the bottom of the inning with three runs.  Will Nester, Keaton Vessells, and Maison Schuldt all had run producing hits.  Three more runs were scored in the bottom of the second on hits by Landen Holewa and Vessells.

Rayce Whiting reached on an error that scored a run in the bottom of the third inning to extend the lead to 7-1.  Cain Grocott scored on a dropped third strike in the bottom of the fourth.  The final two runs came in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Vessells.

Vessells had three hits, one a double, and five RBIs.  Holewa and Nester both had two hits and an RBI.  Brodie Herr also had a double in the game.  Holewa pitched three innings and allowed an earned run on a hit and two walks with four strikeouts.  Vessells pitched two innings walking three and striking out three.  Schuldt also pitched two innings and walked two and struck out two.

Baltic 16U Beats Dell Rapids

Baltic scored four straight runs in a 4-2 win over Dell Rapids in an I-29 16U League game in Dell Rapids on Tuesday, June 14th.

Dell Rapids scored first in the bottom of the second inning.  Brandon Schmidt had an RBI ground out that scored Cooper Frost for the first run.  Riley Schultz had an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the third to tie the game 1-1.  Baltic took the lead in the top of the fourth when Carson Eggert scored on a throw to third after a ground out.

The lead for Baltic grew to 4-1 after two runs in the top of the sixth.  Gunner Schultz had a two-run single with two outs.  Dell Rapids got one run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI ground out by Luke Schoolmeester.

Baltic was led by G. Schultz with two hits and two RBIs.  Tayden Hansen, Jose Valadaz, and Landon Peterson all had hits.  R. Schutlz and Blake Hookie both had RBIs.  Hansen pitched seven innings allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

Lincoln Fersdahl had two hits for Dell Rapids.  Cole Ruesink and Talan Millage both had a single.  Schoolmeester and Schmidt each had an RBI.  Mason Stubbe pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts.  Fersdahl pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Canova Leads Start to Finish in Win over Wood Ducks

Canova scored two times in the top of the first and that would be enough as the Gang earned a 6-1 win over the Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks on Sunday, June 12th.

The Wood Ducks cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first with a run of their own.  JJ Jesson had an RBI single to right field that scored Rob Lind.  The Gang added another run in the top of the second for a 3-1 lead.  The score would remain 3-1 all the way until the ninth inning.  Canova added three runs in their half of the ninth to secure the win.

Jesson had two hits and the lone RBI in the game.  Lind had a double.  Austin King, Jacob Ellens, Tyler Lundberg, and Derek Eidsness all had singles in the game.  Presten Riddle pitched six innings and allowed three runs, but only one earned, on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Ellens pitched three innings allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out three.

Tri-Vally 16U Falls to Baltic

Baltic turned a 6-5 deficit into a 17-6 win by scoring 12 times in the final three innings on Monday, June 13th.

Hunter Foster got Tri-Valley on the board right away in the top of the first with an RBI single.  Baltic took the lead in the bottom of the inning with three runs.  Tri-Valley took the lead back in the top of the second.  Carter Sorenson had an RBI single, Everett Althoff had an RBI ground out, and Foster was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Baltic scored two more times in the bottom of the second.  After two innings of play, Tri-Valley led 6-5.

The scored remained 6-5 through three innings of play.  That’s when the Baltic offense took control of the game.  They scored four times in the fourth, six more in the fifth, and then two times in the sixth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Foster had a hit and two RBIs.  Sorenson had a single and RBI.  Cyrus Kirstein, Levi Kretzschmar, and Ledger Burggraff each had singles in the game.  Althoff had an RBI as well.  Althoff pitched four innings allowing nine runs, six earned, on 10 hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Cody Lofswold pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing eight runs, five earned, on six hits and two walks with one strikeout.
