Garretson/Dell Rapids Takes Down #1 West Central

September 9, 2020 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The Garretson/Dell Rapids Blue Dragon girls soccer team did two things that no other team has been able to do this year against the West Central Trojans.  The Blue Dragons scored the first two goals against the Trojans this year, and also handed West Central their first loss of the season on Tuesday, September 8th in Garretson.

Paige Sterud scored both goals for the Blue Dragons on a chilly, 43 degree night in Garretson.  The defensive line played strong against the top-ranked Trojans holding them scoreless.

The match was a much needed boost for Garretson/Dell Rapids.  With the win the Blue Dragons improved to a 2-4-1 record and moved back into the sixth and final playoff spot in Class A.  Only the top six teams in seed points qualify for the playoffs at the end of the regular season.

The Blue Dragons will have another home match on Saturday, September 12th against the fifth-seeded Dakota Valley Panthers.
