Big Inning Sends Baltic to Win over West Central 16U

West Central 16U held a brief lead after the top of the fifth inning, but Baltic scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth to get a 12-6 win on Thursday, June 30th.

Keaton Vessells had an RBI triple, and B Herr followed with an RBI single to give West Central a 2-0 lead after the top of the first.  Baltic cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first.  They would take the lead with a two-run third inning, and then add two more in the bottom of the fourth.  Baltic led 5-2 after four innings of play.

West Central regained the lead in the top of the fifth.  Rayce Whiting reached on an error that scored Cade Vanderwoude.  Will Nester had an RBI ground out, and Whiting scored on an error to tie the game.  Vessells then had an RBI double to give West Central a 6-5 lead.  The lead was short-lived as Baltic scored seven times in the bottom of the fifth to take the win.

Vessells had two hits, a triple and double, with two RBIs.  Herr had a single and an RBI.  Whiting, Cain Grocott, and Jonathan Murray all had a single.  Nester had an RBI.  Grocott pitched three innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits and three walks.  Vessells pitched an inning and had a strikeout.  Vanderwoude threw two innings and allowed nine runs, eight earned, on 12 hits.

Tri-Valley 16U Scores Extra Inning Win over Flandreau

Tri-Valley 16U scored four runs in the top of the eighth for a 10-6 road win over Flandreau on Thursday, June 30th.

Carter Sorenson drove home the first run for Tri-Valley on a single in the top of the first.  Flandreau took the lead in the bottom of the inning with three runs.  They added another in the bottom of the second and led 4-1 after two innings of play.

Hunter Foster had a two-run single in the top of the third to pull Tri-Valley within a run, 4-3.  Tri-Valley would tie the game in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Javier Mendoza.  Flandreau regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth.  Cody Lofswold and Sorenson both scored in the top of the seven to give Tri-Valley a 6-5 lead.  Fandreau took advantage of an error in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 6-6 and force extra innings.

Alex Wingen broke the tie with an RBI single in the top of the eighth.  Sorenson added a three-run double with two outs to push the lead to 10-6 for Tri-Valley.  Flandreau went down in order in the bottom of the eighth.

Wingen had three hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Sorenson had two hits, one a double, and four RBIs.  Everett Althoff and Lofswold both had two hits.  Foster finished with a single and three RBIs.  Mendoza had a double and an RBI.  Levi Kretzschmar and Benjamin Myhre both had a single.

Cyrus Kirstein pitched five innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.  Sorenson pitched two innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Wingen pitched one inning.

Nine-Run Fourth Inning Leads to Win for Dell Rapids 16U

A nine-run fourth inning helped Dell Rapids 16U to a 13-6 win over Tea on Thursday, June 30th.

Tea took the first lead with a two-run bottom of the fourth inning, but Dell Rapids tied the game with two runs in the top of the second.  Luke Schoolmeester had an RBI single, and Cooper Frost followed with an RBI triple.  Dell Rapids then broke the 2-2 tie with their nine-run fourth inning.  Cole Ruesink had a two-run single.  Sutton Williams added an RBI single.  Quinn Carr followed with a three-run double.  Talan Millage brought home a run with a single, and Konrad Richeal and Ruesink both had a bases-loaded walk to give Dell Rapids an 11-2 lead.

Frost had an RBI single in the the top of the fifth to push the lead to 12-2.  Tea got a run in the bottom of the inning to avoid the 10-run rule.  Ruesink had an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth.  Tea added three more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Frost had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs.  Carr had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Williams and Millage both had two hits and an RBI.  Ruesink finished with a hit and four RBIs.  Schoolmeester and Richeal both had a single and RBI.  Ethan Kringen had two hits, and Lincoln Fersdahl and Micah Pickard both had a hit.

Ruesink pitched three innings and allowed three runs, none earned, on a hit and three strikeouts.  Fersdahl pitched three innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks with six strikeouts.  Frost pitched an inning and allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

West Central Blue 14U Blanks Parker

West Central Blue 14U scored 10 runs in the first three innings and Anthony Lanham held Parker to just two hits in an 10-0 win on Wednesday, June 29th.

Jack Sebert scored the first run of the game, and Alex Siemonsma had an RBI single in the first inning.  Sebert and Hayes Cain had RBI singles in the second inning.  Dylan Bettcher followed with an RBI double, and Siemonsma had an RBI single to push the lead to 6-0.  Four more runs came home in the bottom of the third, all with two outs.  Cain and Lanham had RBI singles.  Bettcher brought home two with a single.

Bettcher had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Cain and Siemonsma both had two hits and two RBIs.  Sebert and Lanham each had a single and RBI.  Taten VanOverbeke added a single as well.

Lanham pitched five innings and allowed two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Early Lead Sparks Win for West Central Gold 14U

A four-run first inning helps West Central Gold 14U to an 8-2 win against Tea-D on Wednesday, June 29th.

Bubba Kono had an RBI ground out in the top of the first to start the scoring for West Central.  Lando Whiting and CJ DenBoer both scored on a passed ball, and Karson Olson had an RBI ground out for a 4-0 lead. Connor Mebius had a two-run single in the top of the third to push the lead to 6-0.  Tea also got two runs in the bottom of the third.

Whiting scored on another passed ball in the top of the fourth inning.  Jacob Mallinger scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to make the score 8-2.

Mebius had a hit and two RBIs.  Kono had a hit and an RBI.  Whiting had two hits, including a double.  DenBoer, Mallinger, and JT Steckley all had a single.  Klein pitched four innings and allowed two runs, neither of them earned, on one hit and two walks with 10 strikeouts.

Dell Rapids Legion Wins Fifth Straight

The Dell Rapids legion baseball team earned their fifth straight win with a 10-5 victory over Hartford/Humboldt on Wednesday, June 29th.

Hartford/Humboldt scored four of their first runs in the top of the first inning.  Dell Rapids responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.  Aiden Boechler had a bases-loaded RBI walk, Landon Ruesink scored on a wild pitch, and CJ Smith had an RBI ground out.  Both teams got a run in the second inning, and Hartford/Humboldt led 5-4 after two innings of play.

Will Jaton scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the third to tie the game 5-5.  Dell Rapids took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Sutton Williams scored on an error on a ground ball by Jack Henry.  Cole Ruesink also scored on an error for a 7-5 lead.  Dell Rapids then added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Henry scored on a passed ball, Smith had an RBI single, and Treyse Eastman added an RBI double.

Smith had two hits and two RBIs.  Henry had a triple and an RBI.  Eastman finished with a double and RBI.  Ruesink and Jaton both had a single and an RBI.  Mason Stubbe added a double.  Joe Rechtenbaugh had a hit, and Boechler had an RBI.

Henry pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on a hit and five walks with four strikeouts.  Eastman earned the win pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing one earned run on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts.

Hartford/Humboldt Legion Can’t Hold Lead Against Dell Rapids

Hartford/Humboldt couldn’t hold an early lead as they fell to Dell Rapids 10-5 in legion baseball action in Dell Rapids on Wednesday, June 29th.

Hartford/Humboldt got off to a hot start scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.  L Jacobson had a two-run single.  Jacobson then later scored on a passed ball.  A Parsons drew a bases-loaded walk for the fourth run of the inning.  Dell Rapids answered with three runs in the bottom of the first.

G Nelson scored the fifth run of the game in the top of the second on an error.  Dell Rapids also got a run in the bottom of the second, and after two innings of play, Hartford/Humboldt led 5-4.  Dell Rapids tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third, and then took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.  They added three more in the bottom of the sixth.

B Sebert had two hits.  Jacobson had a single with two RBIs.  L Maras added a double, and G Nelson also had a hit.  O Heath pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  S Gabbert pitched three innings and allowed seven runs, only one earned, on three hits and seven walks with three strikeouts.  Parsons threw 2/3 of an inning and recorded two strikeouts.

Dell Rapids Navy 14U Falls to Tri-Valley Maroon

Tri-Valley Maroon 14U scored 18 unanswered runs in the middle innings of an 18-8 win over Dell Rapids Navy in Dell Rapids on Wednesday, June 29th.

Dell Rapids scored the first four runs in the bottom of the first, but it was all Tri-Valley for the next three innings.  They scored three runs in the top of the second, five in the third, and then had a big 10-run fourth inning to lead 18-4.  Dell Rapids scored four times in the bottom of the fifth, but Tri-Valley stopped the rally to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Logan Donovan had three hits, including a triple, and an RBI.  Thomas Lavoy also had three hits.  Gage Bunkers finished with two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Carson Maeschen and Noah Larson both had a single and an RBI.  Tollin Peterson had a hit, and Kenny Swanson finished with an RBI.

Jake Heinitz pitched two innings and allowed three runs, all unearned, on three hits and two walks with a strikeout.  Peterson pitched two innings and allowed 15 runs, only three earned, on 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Bunkers threw one inning and allowed three hits.

Tri-Valley White 14U Loses Slugfest with Flandreau

Tri-Valley White 14U and Flandreau combined for 23 total hits and 33 runs in Flandreau on Wednesday, June 29th.  Flandreau took the win 22-11.

Flandreau never trailed in the game as they scored eight times in the bottom of the first.  Tri-Valley got a run in the top of the second, but Flandreau scored three more times in the bottom of the inning for an 11-1 lead.  Tri-Valley cut into the lead in the third and fourth innings.  They scored three runs in the third and four in the fourth, while Flandreau got a single run in each of those innings.  Tri-Valley trailed 13-8 heading into the fifth inning.

Tri-Valley cut the lead to 13-9 with a run in the top of the fifth, but Flandreau scored five times in the bottom of the inning.  After two runs by Tri-Valley in the top of the sixth, Flandreau got four more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Blaine Wiezoreck had three hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Sullivan Snethen and Noah Eggert each had a hit and an RBI.  Cooper Nielson had a double, and Bracken Sharpe finished with an RBI.  Brenner Struiksma pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed five earned runs on four hits and five walks with a strikeout.  Brady Jewett pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed nine runs, seven earned, on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Dell Rapids Red 14U Falls at Home to Sioux Falls Christian

Sioux Falls Christian 14U brought hot bats into Dell Rapids on June, 29th.  They had 14 total hits and scored 18 runs in an 18-2 win over Dell Rapids Red 14U.

Sioux Falls Christian scored in every inning getting two in the first, five in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth, and six in the fifth.  Alex Heinemann had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the second for Dell Rapids.  Heinemann had another RBI ground out in the bottom of the fifth.

Heinemann finished with two RBIs.  Austin Gross, Connor Hanson, and Caden Bitzer had hits in the game.  Hanson recorded three strikeouts in two innings of pitching.  Sawyer Hebert and Bitzer each had two strikeouts.
