Tea-P Breaks Tie to Beat West Central Gold 14U

Tea-P broke a 4-4 tie after three innings and outscored West Central Gold 4-1 the rest of the way for an 8-5 win on Wednesday, July 6th.

Tea scored three runs right away in the top of the first inning.  West Central got one run in their half of the first inning on an RBI single by Connor Mebius.  Tea added another run in the top of the second.  JT Steckley scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second.  West Central then tied the game 4-4 with two runs in the bottom of the third.  CJ Denboer had an RBI single and then later scored on a wild pitch.

Tea, however, broke the 4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the fourth inning.  West Central got one run back in the bottom of the sixth.  Braxton Huber scored on a passed ball.  Tea got one more run in the top of the seventh.

Hayden Whiting had two hits.  DenBoer and Mebius both had a hit and an RBI.  Steckley pitched one inning and allowed four runs, one earned, on a hit and three walks with two strikeouts.  DenBoer pitched three innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on a hit and four walks with six strikeouts.  Whiting pitched three innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit and two walks with three strikeouts.

West Central Blue Wins Eleventh Game of Season

West Central Blue 14U won their eleventh game of the season and fifth in a row after a 16-1 win at Dell Rapids Red on Wednesday, July 6th.

West Central scored six times in the top of the first inning. Dylan Bettcher, Alex Siemonsma, and Ashton Gebhard all had two-run singles. After both teams went scoreless in the second inning, West Central scored 10 times in the top of the third.

Gebhard had another two-run single and then later scored on a passed ball. Anthony Lanham had a three-run double followed by an RBI single by Bettcher. Nick Lorang had a two-run single, and Gebhard had another RBI with a ground out. Dell Rapids got a run in the bottom of the third.

Bettcher had three hits and three RBIs. Gebhard had two hits and five RBIs. Lanham had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs. Lorang had two hits, one of them a triple, and two RBIs. Siemonsma finished with a hit and two RBIs. Jack Sebert added a double. Gebhard pitched two innings and allowed two hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Hayes Cain pitched one inning and allowed an earned run on a walk.

Dell Rapids 14U Teams End Regular Season with Losses

The regular season came to an end for both of the Dell Rapids 14U teams on Wednesday, July 6th.  Dell Rapids Red hosted West Central Blue, and Dell Rapids Navy was at Madison Black.

West Central Blue 16, Dell Rapids Red 1

West Central had two big innings, a six-run first and 10-run third, in their 16-1 win over Dell Rapids.  Dell Rapids was held to just two hits in the game and scored their run in the bottom of the third.

Connor Hanson and Caden Bitzer both had singles.  Alex Heinemann had an RBI on a ground out to second that scored Hayes Sehr.  Kaiden Zelmer pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed just one hit.  Bitzer pitched two innings and recorded two strikeouts.

Madison Black 11, Dell Rapids Blue 1

Madison scored nine straight runs in the first four innings on their way to an 11-1 win in six innings.  They scored five times right away in the first inning and then added a run in the second, one in the third, and two more in the fourth.  Dell Rapids scored their run in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Carson Maeschen.  Madison scored two more runs in the sixth to end the game.

Maeschen had a double and an RBI.  Logan Donovan, Gage Bunkers, Kenny Swanson, and Jackson Peppel all had singles.  Swanson pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed five runs on a hit and five walks.  Bunkers pitched 2 2/3 of an inning and allowed two runs on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Jake Heinitz also pitched 2 2/3 of an inning and allowed five runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Wood Ducks Get Win over Dell Rapids PBR

The Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks won their second league game of the season on Thursday, June 30th.  They defeated Dell Rapids PBR 12-7.

Logan Larsen had four hits and three stolen bases.  JJ Jesson finished with three hits, including a home run.  Austin King added three hits and two stolen bases.  Nathan Adrian finished with a triple and double.  Jake Ellens also had two hits. Derek Eidsness and Austin Smith both finished with a hit and two stolen bases.  Presten Riddle pitched six innings in the win.

Hartford Sparx 18U Enjoying Successful Season

The Hartford Sparx 18U softball team is currently enjoying a very good 2022 season.  The Sparx finished the month of May with a 7-2 record.  They were 17-9 overall in the month of June for a current record of 24-11.

The Sparx won the Silver Bracket of the Mt Rushmore Classic in Rapid City June 24th-26th.  This tournament was their most recent set of games in their schedule.  They finished 1-2 in pool play.  They defeated Matrix 16-0, but lost to Grand Junction Drillers (9-2) and River City Wolfpack (6-5).  That record put them into the Silver Bracket of the classic.

Hartford Spark 9, Minot Storm Blue 3

The Sparx defeated Minot Storm Blue 9-3 in the opening game.  Hartford scored seven times in the bottom of the third, and then got a single run in the fourth and fifth innings.  Minot scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning.

Riley Morrison had two hits, a triple and double, and three RBIs.  Caitlyn Maa had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Jenna Lueth also had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Addy Kramer finished with a double and RBI.  Grace Harden and McKenna Sichmeller both had a single and RBI.  Taylor Kunzweiler had two hits, and Bryten Roth and Payten Meinke each added a single.

Kunzweiler pitched all five innings and allowed three earned runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Hartford Sparx 4, SoDak Softball 3

Hartford scored four early runs against SoDak Softball and held on for a 4-3 victory to put them in the championship. The Sparx had a three-run first inning and added another run in the top of the second for an early 4-0 lead.  SoDak Softball got two runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the bottom of the fifth, but Harden got a strikeout to end the game leaving the tying run on third.

Maa had a double and an RBI.  Avery Evans, Kramer, Kunzweiler, Morrison, and Roth all had singles in the game.  Harden pitched all five innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits and four walks with seven strikeouts.

Hatford Sparx 3, CO Diamonds Road 1

The Sparx held CO Diamonds Road to just one hit and took the title with a 3-1 win.  Hartford broke a 0-0 tie with two runs in the bottom of the third inning.  CO Diamonds got a run in the top of the fourth, but the Sparx got that run back in the bottom of the inning.  The Sparx held he Diamonds scoreless in the fifth inning for the win.

Harden had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Evans and Maa both had a single and an RBI.  Kramer and Morrison both added a single.  Kunzweiler pitched five innings and allowed just one earned run on one hit with two walks and had five strikeouts.

Tri-Valley White 14U Wins Back and Forth Game Against Elkton

Tri-Valley White won a high-scoring, back and forth game against Elkton on Friday, July 1st.  The two teams combined for 33 runs and 20 hits with Tri-Valley taking the home victory, 20-13.

Elkton scored first with a run in the top of the first, but Tri-Valley tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Brady Jewett scored.  Elkton then had a four-run top of the second.  After holding Tri-Valley scoreless in the bottom of the second, they added another run in the top of the third for a 6-1 lead.

Tri-Valley took their first lead of the game with a six-run bottom of the third.  Blaine Wiezoreck had the only RBI in the inning as several runners scored on wild pitches and passed balls.  Elkton bounced back with two runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead 7-6.  Tri-Valley took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth with four runs.

After Tri-Valley held Elkton scoreless in the top of the fifth, they put the pressure on with five more runs.  Bracken Sharpe, Jewett, Cooper Nielson, and Austin Puetz all scored in the inning to make the score 16-8.  Elkton tried to rally in the sixth inning, getting three runs.  But once more Tri-Valley responded, this time with four more runs.  Sullivan Snethen, Noah Eggert, Landen Jensen, and Landon McGill all scored for Tri-Valley.  Elkton got their final two runs in the top of the seventh.

Wiezoreck had two hits and two RBIs.  Puetz had two hits and an RBI.  Matthew Cypher finished with three singles.  Jewett, Sharpe, Eggert, and Brenner Struiksma all had singles.  Wiezoreck pitched four innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts.  Snethen pitched two innings and allowed six runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Jewett pitched one inning and allowed two earned runs on two hits and three walks with one strikeout.

Madison Maroon Gets Early Lead to Beat Tri-Valley Maroon 14U

Madison Maroon got the lead right away in the first inning and rode that to a 12-2 win over Tri-Valley Maroon on Friday, July 1st.

Madison scored four times in the top of the first inning.  They would get two more runs in the top of the third, one in the fifth, and then five more in the top of the sixth for a 12-0 lead.  Tri-Valley got both of their runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Parker Hemme had an RBI triple, and Denton Bicknase reached on an error that scored Hemmer.  With only two runs scored in the inning, the game ended on the 10-run rule.

Tri-Valley was held to just two hits in the game.  Hemme had a triple and an RBI, and Owen Bunde had a single.  Tristen Bunde pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed 11 runs, but only four earned, on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts.  Jackson Williams pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed an earned run on two hits and a walk with a strikeout.

Both Dell Rapids 14U Teams Drop Games Before 4th of July

Both Dell Rapids Red and Dell Rapids Navy 14U baseball teams were in action before the 4th of July weekend.  Dell Rapids Red hosted Hamlin, and Dell Rapids Navy traveled to Parker on Friday, July 1st.

Hamlin 21, Dell Rapids Red 0

Dell Rapids Red was held hitless in three innings as Hamlin scored in all three innings.  Hamlin scored four times in the first, four times in the second, and nine more in the third inning.

Conner Hanson and Derek Gerlach each drew a walk in the game.  Caden Zellmer pitched all three innings and recorded four strikeouts.

Parker 10, Dell Rapids Navy 5

Parker scored five early runs, saw their lead shrink to one, but held on to beat Dell Rapids Navy 10-5 on July 1st.

Parker scored four runs in the bottom of the first and another in the bottom of the second to lead 5-0 after two innings of play.  Dell Rapids scored three times in the top of the third.  Logan Donovan had an RBI single and later scored on a passed ball.  Gage Bunkers also had an RBI single to make the score 5-3.  Dell Rapids cut the lead to 5-4 after Jackson Peppel had an RBI single in the top of the fifth.  Parker, however, scored five times in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.  Dell Rapids got another run in the top of the sixth.

Peppel had two hits and an RBI.  Jack Paterson had a double and an RBI.  Donovan and Bunkers each had a single and RBI.  Thomas Lavoy added a hit.  Donovan pitched four innings and allowed eight runs, four earned, on two hits and five walks with 11 strikeouts.  Bunkers pitched two innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.

Madison Scores 10 Unanswered in Win over Gamecocks

The Madison Broncos scored 10 unanswered runs in a 14-7 home win over the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks on Thursday, June 30th.

Madison scored first four runs of the game.  They got two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the second.  Humboldt/Hartford had a big top of the fifth inning scoring four times to tie the game.  Joe Hanisch was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Broc Haldeman drew a bases-loaded walk, and K Bailey had a two-run single to make the score 4-4.

The Broncos had two big innings in a row.  They scored five times in the bottom of the fifth and five more in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 14-4.  The Gamecocks scored three times in the top of the seventh.  Kyle Bailey had a two run double and then later scored on a wild pitch.

Bailey had two hits, one a double, and four RBIs.  Haldeman had two hits, including a double, with an RBI.  Hanisch had a single and an RBI.  Cam Quigley, Cooper Maras, Noah Vettrus, and Landry Knight all had singles.

Brandon McKinight pitched four innings and allowed seven runs, three earned, on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Knight pitched two innings and allowed a hit and a walk with five strikeouts.  Zach Treiber pitched 1 2/3 inings and allowed seven runs, five earned, on five hits and two walks with a strikeout.

Canova Cruises Past Colton Legion

Canova scored in every inning but one in a bit 19-1 win over Colton Legion in Colton on Thursday, June 30th.

Colton was held to just three hits in the game, while Canova scored four runs in the first, five in the third, one in the fourth, and nine runs in the fifth.  Kaden Egger had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the second for the only run for Colton.

Noah Haynes, Cole Focken, and Connor Christensen all had singles in the game.  Egger had an RBI.  Aiden Heitkamp pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed five earned runs on four hits and two walks.  Lawson Louiseau pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed seven earned runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout.  Nathan Madison pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed four earned runs on six hits.  Zach Powell also pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed three runs on two hits and a walk with a strikeout.
