Seven West Central Trojan wrestlers placed at the 2023 South Dakota Class A State Wrestling Tournament held in Rapid City held Thursday, February 23rd through Saturday, February 25th.
Karson Vessells finished third in the 113-pound class with a 4-1 record which included four pins. Justin Zirpel was third in the 160-pound class finishing 4-1, a major decision win, two decision wins, and an injury default victory. Chet Carda was also third in the 182-pound class finishing 4-1, three pins and a decision win. Chandler Carda placed fifth in the 145-pound class with a 3-2 record, two pins and a decision win. Keaton Vessells was sixth in the 152-pound class finishing 3-3, two decision wins and a sudden victory. Gavin Pischke took sixth in the 285-pound with class with two pins and a decision win. Allison Foote placed sixth in the girls division with a 2-3 record, both wins via a pin.
Four other wrestlers also participated individually for the Trojans at state. Orlando Whiting (126) and Gabe Gebhard (195) each had a major decision win. Levi Anderson (120) and Connor Siemonsma (138) both finished 0-2.
West Central also competed in the team dual championship bracket. The Trojans finished 0-2 as a team. They lost to Watertown 53-18 in the opening round and then fell to Aberdeen Central 43-24 in consolation bracket.
