Gamecocks Bounce Back with Two Wins

After three straight losses, the Humboldt Gamecocks bounced back into the win column with two wins.  They defeated Salem on Thursday, July 10th and the Flandreau Blue Teal on Sunday, July 13th.

Gamecocks 12, Salem 2

Humboldt turned a close game into a 10-run victory with a big eighth inning.  After two scoreless innings, the Gamecocks scored three runs in the bottom of the third.  Salem got a run in the top of the fourth.  The Gamecocks added another run in the bottom of the seventh.  Salem scored another run in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 4-2.  Humboldt ended the game on the 10-run rule by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Ryan Holgate had four hits and two RBIs.  Joe Hanisch added three hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Cam Quigley had two hits and an RBI.  Jonah Rechtenbaugh had two hits.  Chad Morrison added a single with two RBIs.  Noah Vettrus had a single and an RBI.  Devon Garry had a double, and Kyle Konechne had a single.

Gamecocks 5, Flandreau Blue Teal 3

A late rally gave the Gamecocks a win over the Blue Teal.  Flandreau scored all three of their runs in the top of the third.  The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth.  Humboldt got a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to make the score 3-2.  The Gamecocks then rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to seal the victory.

Quigley had three hits with an RBI.  Holgate, Rechtenbaugh, and Adam Hentges all had a single and an RBI.  Garry had a double.  Broc Haldeman, Svoboda, Vettrus, and Morrison all had one hit each.  Svoboda pitched five innings and allowed three earned runs on two hits and five walks with eight strikeouts.  Vettrus pitched four innings giving up four hits while striking out four batters.
