The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks had their season come to an end in the second round of the 2026 South Dakota State B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell. The Gamecocks defeated the Parkston Rays in the opening round on Saturday, August 8th but fell to the Dell Rapids Mudcats on Tuesday, August 11th.
Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks 2, Parkston Rays 1
Blake Svoboda held the Rays to just one earned run on five hits and a walk while recording 14 strikeouts in a strong performance on the mound.
Caden Alfson drove home a run in the top of the second to put the Gamecocks ahead 1-0. Devon Garry had an RBI triple to center field in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 2-0. Parkston got a run in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 2-1, but the Svoboda and the Gamecocks held strong for the win.
Cam Quigley had three hits. Garry finished with a double and an RBI. Joe Hanisch had a single, and Alfson had an RBI.
Dell Mudcats 7, Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks 2
A string of runs in the middle innings helped the Mudcats defeat the Gamecocks and advance in the state tournament. After three scoreless innings, Humboldt/Hartford took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Dell Rapids took the lead, 2-1, with two runs in the top of the fifth. They added two more in the top of the sixth for a 4-1 lead. The Gamecocks got another run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Mudcats scored three more in the top of the seventh.
Konechne had a home run and an RBI. Broc Haldeman had a single with an RBI. Svoboda and Hunter DenBoer each had a single. Jonah Rechtenbaugh pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and five walks with four strikeouts. Carver Hulgren tossed 1 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts. JD Kirchner pitched three innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on. three hits and a walk with six strikeouts.
