The offense was the story of the game between West Central Royal 14U and Brookings White on Thursday, July 17th. The two teams combined for 27 runs and 25 hits as West Central got by Brookings 15-12.
West Central scored two runs in the top of the first for an early 2-0 lead. Brookings got one run back in the bottom of the inning. West Central added another run in the top of the second to make the score 3-1. Brookings, however, took the lead 5-3 with a four-run bottom of the second. West Central cut the lead to 5-4 with another run in the top of the third.
Brookings was able to extend their lead to 8-4 with a three-run bottom of the fourth innings. That’s when West Central started their big rally. They scored two times in the top of the fifth to make the score 8-6. After holding Brookings scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, West Central rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth to go in front 11-8. Brookings got one run back in the bottom of the sixth. West Central had another big inning in the top of the seventh as they scored four times for a 15-9 lead. Those runs were huge because Brookings scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally came up short.
Kane G. had four hits in the game. Cooper B. had two hits, one a double, and five RBIs. Aiden L. also had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Eli K. finished with two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Max L. had two hits. Luke L. had a single and three RBIs. Davin L. had a single with an RBI, and Dean A. had a double.
Kayden M. pitched four innings and allowed eight runs, five earned, on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Dean A. pitched three innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
