Trojans Win First Home Football Game of Season

After starting the season with two away games, the West Central Trojan football team had the first home game of the year on Friday, September 8th.  The Trojans hosted the Madison Bulldogs and took the win 35-7.

Caden Alfson threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Layton Johnson with 5:23 in the first quarter to put the Trojans on the board first.  Alfson and Johnson connected again with 4:18 to go in the second quarter on a 60-yard touchdown pass.  A made two-point conversion made the score 14-0.  Jesse Jost had a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown with 3:26 to go in the half giving the Trojans a 22-0 lead after a made two-point conversion.  Madison got on the board in the final seconds of the first half on an 18-yard touchdown pass.  West central led 22-7 at halftime.

The Trojan special teams added two more touchdowns in the second half.  Jude Jarding broke free for a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the third quarter.  Neither team would score again in the quarter, and the Trojans led 28-7 going into the fourth quarter.  Jost had another touchdown in the fourth quarter, this time on a 33-yard punt return for a touchdown with 3:31 left in the game.

West Central finished with 397 yards of total offense, 248 rushing yards and 149 passing yards.  Madison had 166 yards of offense, just 23 rushing yards and 143 passing yards.

Chet Carda had 13 carries for 93 yards.  Aiden Bartmann added 13 carries for 76 yards, and Jost had 11 rushing for 66 yards.  Alfson was 9-18 passing for 147 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Johnson had five catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.  Crew Heier had three catches for 37 yards.  Carda also led the team defensively with 11 tackles.  Karsen Wilde finished with five tackles, and Chandler Carda had four takcles.  Jost, Jarding, and Johnson all had an interception in the game.
