The West Central Legion baseball team won a game and lost a game in regional play on Tuesday, July 18th. The win game against Hamlin, but West Central lost to Alexandria in their second game.
West Central 14, Hamlin 4
After a scoreless first inning, West Central put together a seven-run bottom of the second for a 7-0 lead. Hamlin got a run in the top of the third, but West Central added two more in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-1 score. Hamlin rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 9-4, but West Central scored the final five runs of the game. Two runs were scored in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Derek Renken finished with three hits, one a triple, with an RBI. Andrew Zimmer had a home run and double with five RBIs. CJ DenBoer added two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Keaton Vessells had a home run and two RBIs. Conner Siemonsma had a single and an RBI. Duece Sherard had a double, and Gage Nelson added a single. Zimmer pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on two hits and six walks with eight strikeouts. Nelson pitched 1 1/3 innings and walked two batters.
Alexandria 9, West Central 3
The two teams were locked in a scoreless battle through three innings of play. Alexandria then scored six runs in a row. They got a run in the top of the fourth and five in the fifth for a 6-0 lead. West Central got two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-2. Alexandria would extend their lead with two more runs in the top of the sixth. After West Central got one run in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-3 score, Alexandria scored one more run in the top of the seventh.
Vessells finished with two hits. Sherard had a double. DenBoer, Siemonsma, Cain Grocott, and Zimmer all had a single in the game. Domo Chandeswang had an RBI. Renken pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed an earned run on two hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Sherard pitched three innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts. Chandeswang allowed two earned runs on two walks. Maison Schult allowed three earned runs on two hits and three walks.
